    I think Wevers's routine is really different from other girls' routines. Nowadays not many female gymnasts do those mount and dismount like she does. The elements she combined in her routine are also unique. The best part is that she did it beautifully. She really deserved that gold medal.

    • @chung2F5
      @chung2F5 Pƙed 7 lety +195

      It is different, not to mention difficult. I got scared when she did that triple turn, but she nailed it, and her eponymous turn is also beautiful, not to mention difficult as well. The gainer salto dismount might not be the hardest but it's still difficult plus so unique to watch in artistic gymnastics these days. I love the fact that she prioritised artistry over power.

      Not so fast there Missy. This Dutch girl commited one violation on her routine here. According to the Artistic Gymnastics Federation Code of Rules, "one cannot repeat the same stunt on the beam." Miss Dutch repeated her twirls and turns THREE times and got credit for them. Apparently even the judges overlooked this obvious violation and gave her the gold instead of Laurie. I see Complaints flying off the shelves very soon and as we speak especially from the fourth and fifth placers. Heck, Laurie can file one too.

    • @liaxiara2921

    Whoever says that Sanne's routine isn't difficult should try doing a Double L or a triple turn on floor. It's already so difficult on the floor. Sanne does turns IN COMBINATION on a 4 inch beam. Her mount and first skill is already an worth 1 whole point in start value. She had more difficult routines than Biles and Hernandez. She won the gold fair and square!! Well done Sanne!! 😁😁

      Also, she would have done an even more difficult routine if Simone hadn't made a mistake. Very calculated if you ask me. I'm totally new to gymnastics. But I loved watching it. I'm Dutch myself and I had tears in my eyes from watching Sanne. Americans have won so much. People have to understand what this gold medal means for the average Dutch girl who is aspiring to be a olympic gymnast. They now know that this is achievable.

      Sam's CZcamsChannel I loved watching all these gymnasts. They are pure athletes. I think it's really sad when the fall or stumble, because they've practiced the routine soo often and then for it to go wrong in that final moment is just sad. But on the other hand, it's also part of the game. It also makes it exciting.

  • @okok-br8hb

    Routines like sanne's is what we need more in artistic gymnastics. Unique, artistic but yet somehow difficult. Artistic gymnastics has become less about the artistic part of it through the years. I hope we can see more of this in the future.

      I have to say, I disagree. I'm not an expert on gymnastics at all, but from a viewer's perspective, I prefer a more athletic and less artistic approach to the sport. I also think what the men are doing in gymnastics is more interesting to me. None of the shiny clothes or the dancing, instead just a simple and comparable demonstration of body control.
      That's not to say I don't like artistic stuff, for example, I think ballet is very cool, too. I just think if you want art, you should do that instead of a sport. But that's just my personal taste, doesn't mean it should dictate how gymnastics are trained.

      @pulguirock Pƙed 7 lety +228

      Well, there is a reason why it is called artistic gymnastics, if you just like athleticism go watch acro, tumbling or trampolining competitions, they do much more interesting things there and they don't dance. Just from another viewer who likes gymnastics and has been following it form decades. By the way, dancers are also athletes, just go watch any class or rehearsal and you will realize how muchos effort they do. From a dancer in training.

    Sanne was amazing. Her triple turn was nearly flawless and it's as close as I'll get to seeing Mai Murakami's quadruple pirouette at the Olympics. Lol. Her routine was BEAUTIFUL, and it had the "danceability" that many beam performances nowadays just shurg off. Back in the day beam was such a beautiful spectacle because it had risky skills AND artistic beauty. A lot of that has gone off the tracks.

    I think the results of this final were very fair. From a judging perspective, I see a lot of issues with Hernandez positions on many of her jumps and to me Wevers was very artistic, had difficult skills, and executed them well with confidence. I like Laurie's attitude, but Wevers clearly had something very special that day on the apparatus. You don't see routines like that anymore, she dared to be different, and good for the Dutch legacy of gymnastics.

    In my opinion Sanne had the perfect mix of dance and acrobatic skills. Maybe it's because she's doing lesser known and lesser performed skills that so many people can't recognize or evaluate them.
    She had the most difficult mount (E) when all the others just hop onto the beam. She did 2 side arials, a front arial and a full twisting bhs for the acrobatics (all rated D or higher) and then 2 of the hardest spins in the world in the same routine!!! No one else does these turns because no one else can! So dont worry, it wont be like rhythmic gymnastics because besides Sanne no one else can do it. She is simply unique and not at all boring (to me at least) :D
    P.s: A true fan of rhythmic can of course tell you that Rita, Yana and Ganna placed 1, 2, 3 in rhythmic aa! But you need to be interested in the sport in the first place. For example, I have no idea who won the tennis event in the Olympics because I couldnt care less about that sport, no matter how entertaining these athletes may be. But rhythmic is the greatest to watch to me, while great acrobatics seems to be the best for you. It's all about personal preference ;)

    Sanne’s beam is amazing. So artistic and unique. American gymnasts don’t even think about artistic gymnastics it’s just them doing flips and nothing else. Hope we can see more gymnasts like sanne.

    I love Lieke at 1:20 how she looked devastated at Simone's "fall" even though she's her sister's biggest competition haha

    Wow, Hernandez's extension was just to die for. Haven't seen extension on beam that made me react like that since 08 Nastia.

    This was the perfect example of smartly working the Code of Points to personal strengths. Still so thrilled with this podium.
