I play W3 in english, but I enjoy this polish version quite a lot. I do not speak polish but similar language and polish language in many moments sounds hilarious. I do not know what polish people exactly hear but those words in my language makes expression very rich and colorful. We even make joke about how our term would be said in polish (well we make some fake translations fitting this property of the language).
Btw. it is a big step up from the original Witcher. In english it was so poor, without any imagination and juice. W1 and W2 I played in either polish or czech translation.
10:05 - Defend yourself, you sons of the dogs.
      Love it.

I'm sorry, but for me Geralt in an english version sounds more like a stereotypical witcher seen by most people.. no emotions, kinda like a cold shoulder type of guy.. but in polish it sounds like a guy who has seen some shit, but still has some emotions left, more like a person. Of course it's just an opinion and it might be just my way to see (or hear in this case) Geralt in both languages

It's because they let him improvise in W3
In Witcher 1 & 2 they made Doug talk in a calm normal voice, especially in W1, they were more strict with Doug.
In W3 Doug for some reason decided to do Batman voice. Even my brother who had never heard of Witcher immediately said the voice was some Batman-guy and laughed when I showed him a trailer of W3

Regis English and Polish voice actors are both perfect for the character, they just give off two very different vibes. Polish feels a lot more stern, a lot more stern, 'grizzled and tax collector' vibes from the books and the English voice feels softer, more tired. English is my first language so I probably have a bias on the tonality but I love both voices so much, so fitting for a great character!

Polish Regis speaks much calmer than in the English version. You can hear that, as a long-lived being, he doesn't have to rush into anything, and his dignified diction immediately lets us know that he is more than just an ordinary merchant, especially in the final conversation (although this may be due to the fact that he is voiced by one of the best Polish actors). . The English Regis has a good voice but speaks in an ordinary way, lacking the specific pronunciation that some actors have, especially Troy Baker.

    • @dziabuka1981
      @dziabuka1981 Před 4 měsíci +3

English Geralt still sounds more monotonous than polish Geralt. Maybe It's a matter of not understanding the language but polish voice actor can change his tone to fit the situation. He doesn't sound the same all the time. I don't also get this "he has to sound like that because he is an old bored of life witcher". If he is bored it doesn't mean he has to sound like a throat cancer survivor. English VA forces his voice to sound like that which makes it really funny to listen to. No one who speaks comfortably sounds like that. Polish VA at least uses his normal voice and still sounds more masculine than his english version.

And, even in the final round, the Polish version scores a complete and perfect victory. :-)
Palmerin and Milton sound appropriately pompous and corny in PL. In English, they sound so boorish that they would easily be interchangeable with the bandits: the only thing that sets their speech apart is that they use bigger words.
Jan Frycz must be the bigger name the biggest name that was ever cast in the Polish version: his voice is just MAJESTIC. His Regis just oozes authority while sounding polite, cultivated and quiet. English Regis sounds generic and lifeless; he basically sounds like any random guy in the English dub. His casting may feel like a slap in the face to some of the fans who were so eager to see Regis' return, especially considered that CD Projekt Red could hire such a top actor in the Polish version. You hear little of Dettlaff here, but- from the other clips I've watched- the English actor sounds too wooden in his delivery: definitely not a right fit for a character whose key trait is his blind passion. In PL, he's a great tortured anti-hero.
As for Rozenek, I don't know what could I possibly add.. I could listen to his voice forever. :-)

I thought he was one of the most convincing characters I've ever come across in a video game. The tone of his voice, his accent, his sophisticated vocabulary and his taste for philosophical questions made him an exceptional figure. But if you say the polish voice acting is even better, I can't only imagine how good it must have been! This game is such a masterpiece... The people at CD Projekt Red are the real Grandmasters!

It's just that I'd been pumped for a month when I knew Frycz was voicing him in the Polish version and I got to find him so pitch-perfect in the role that his English counterpart sounded too normal in comparison, from what I've heard. I'll try to watch a few key scenes with him to see if I should revise my judgement.

I do agree with your original statement to some extent though! Some characters, such as Lambert and Triss, just to name those two, speak with a distinctive american accent that feels completely out of place. As a matter of fact, all the witchers from the school of the wolf we encounter in the game speak US English.. That's so weird considering the game takes place in a euro-centered context! I don't understand why CDPR didn't simply make them speak with a polish accent. That would have made immersion into the game even easier.

For me the Polish is the best. In english dub Geralt's american batman voice always makes me cringe and I often have to mute it or I would end up in psychiatric hospital. I just can't stand that crappy monotone voice, the voice acting is not good either. Also Polish is a slavic language and this is mainly slavic game so it makes the atmosphere even better. Plus I can understand about 85-90% of Polish cause I'm from Slovakia.

@Smunstu Stinkymonster I think some characters like Palmerin or Milton have some French-like intonations at times in the Polish version, although it's done in a subtle way, which is probably for the best or it could sound too parodic. The first Witcher has a quest, "Mud and Velveret", featuring some characters from Toussant who, on the other hand, employ thick French accents. It works fine there, but I think it would've become distracting in B&W if all characters talked like that.

Regis' voice is to deep i think, he is a tall skinny guy, his voice sounds like he needs bigger lungs.

Funny because I think that english voices do not fit. It's probably the matter of language. Even if we understand the language it still may sound strange to us if we do not use it or hear it everyday. I think though that polish sounds more authentic because The Witcher games were made to look like some kind of European middle ages and english talking peasants sound odd to me. For Regis I think this deep voice suits him really well as he is after all a really old man. In english he sounds too young for me.
