When was her Birthday? Sarah looks barely half that old. She must eat properly and exorsize a lot. I'm sure she does exorcisms because there was an Angel in the background sanding a fender.

Sarah, a few shows back you spoke about your friend that no longer can work on cars because of his health. You mentioned that you didn't have the time to work out and take care of yourself. As a senior member of society I have one piece of advice. Make working out a priority, resistance training (lifting weights)and cardio to a lesser extent. Apply the same level of dedication and passion to taking care of your health as you do to your work (which is excellent!) and you will be able to follow your passion for many years. It may slow the pace of your progress on your projects but in the long run you will be better off.
He hasn’t been able to get into a doctor because his insurance is crap. Still waiting to see what happens.

Happy to see you wearing your respirator hood when working. We never had a lot of the products you use when I was doing this type work. Would've been nice. Cool Looney Tunes shirt. Please be careful to Not breath those fumes. Confident that your paint will be great.
This bug hadn't had as much attention in its whole life, as it's had in your shop. It definitely had never been so smooth. So smooth, I bet it will have jet like aerodynamics when you're done with it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ragnar gets at least a couple if not a few tenths better MPG's after Sarah's smooooth paint job lol

Fresh air. Lots of fresh air. And water 💧. Same: lots. Dr. Rapp’s prescription for feeling better by the morrow.
It is good to see your OCD did not suffer from your little expedition with Charlie a week or so ago; visiting the UrQuattros at play. Sanded to (mostly) 800 grit 🤪. Ready for paint. Except there will be at least a day of additional prep before you are, approximately, satisfied 🧐. Please to be so kind so to keep your pretty head inside your ventilator hood during dusty or chemically challenging process😵💫. Much better you will feel after all prep is done.

So fun to see you massage all the little dimples and ripples out of this legacy bodywork. With prep work this clean, I've got butterflies for the performance ahead just like you do, Sarah. Good luck! This is the hardest part of a project car I feel, so I felt it was a good way to set someone up for success if they win it.

It’s no wonder good paint jobs are expensive. The amount of work you’ve put into this is amazing. Judging by how the dash came out, this VW is going to look amazing.
Various sizes of pool noodles work great for sanding. It's easier to hold on to your pool noodle than it is your Assilex =)
I always get a Bert stare when I tell someone the paint part is easy, the prep is where the work is. Now they can watch this series and have it make sense, finally. :)

So glad to see you wearing that respirator hood thing. I worked in body shops in my teen and twenties and now I have COPD. No one ever wore masks back then.
Watching this series realised to me how much work is actually required for a good bodywork. No wonder it’s expensive.

The beetle is as old as I am...and poodle-shih tzus are a thing. Kind of cute by the looks of it.
Great job, nice thing about the beetle is it's so small (I have a 73 Super Beetle). I sanded and painted the hull on my 1948 cabin cruiser in a filthy boat yard last year. Painting my beetle this year should be pleasure after the boat. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for doing this project. It has given me the kick I need to finish off the restoration and EV conversion of my mum’s old Super Beetle Cabriolet.
I am always impressed with the level of detail and commitment you put in, it’s so tempting to give up when there is so much sanding to do but it will look so much better when painted due to the effort you put in now.

I just reassured myself that I made the right decision years ago that I don’t have the patience to do body work. I tip my hat to anybody that does this type of work.
Thank You Budget Car Brunette. You dance a Great 220 grit two step. @2:35 (baile mi hermana baile!) AND... Yes you are exposed to dust and chem particulate YET you get 1000 bonus points for wearing any PPE like gloves and the respirator hood. 👍 (Also *NO* *ONE* doubts your painting skills)
This bug's going to be better than new. I'm so jealous of whoever it goes to. I had a 69 back in 79 and boy does this tug at my heart strings.

Sarah. I also used to do a final wash with ivory soap and a red Scotch pad before going in the booth. I’m surprised your not doing clear coat. So much easier to get out dirt nibs and get a good flat buff.
Nice work. I don't think I'd ever have the patience to do all the paint prep myself, so laborious and time consuming.
You can protect the chimaera by placing it in a plastic bag and taping the bag opening around the lens. Works well for beach filming and less heavy than a underwater container.

First: Amazing jorb.
I did all the bodywork, prep, and painted my first car, a 1966 AMC Rambler 2 door, and it ended up....fine. I learned a TON, however, and got some great pointers along the way, and then next one was my dad's 1968 Buick Skylark Convertible, and THAT paint job ended up looking amazing. It was so rich and shiny that it looked wet, like you could dip your finger in it. The Rambler was sad next to that, so I went and re-did the paint on the Rambler because I make excellent choices.
You're awesome. Ragnar is going to look great in that wheen sing gull stage.
