Important thing to note about Chopper's devil fruit. He hadn't really realised he was being excluded from the herd before the devil fruit, because he had the intelligence of a reindeer. But after he ate the fruit he realised just how much he was being excluded from the beginning. Which just makes it even more sad.
Judging by how animals behave in the world of One Piece, I think it's fair to say that they're quite alot more intelligent than their real life counterparts.
Idk, I think any animal that's naturally social enough to form herds would feel excluded, on some level
Gives me Flowers for Algernon vibes. Poor Charlie and poor Chopper.
I don't think I agree with that? Not sure, but I'd be curious what made you think that. The way I remember it he seemed sad from the beginning
At this point, I don't think Chopper could go back to his herd if he even WANTED to. He's 17 now, which, while quite young for a human, is pretty near the MAXIMUM age a reindeer can get. Chopper's fruit didn't just give him a human body and human intelligence, it gave him a human lifespan and human aging (possibly even slower than a normal human, as Chopper doesn't LOOK like he's 17 years old in his default form.) * By the time his voyage is done, any reindeer that knew him in his herd will be long dead.
*The super slow aging might also explain why Chopper STILL has the metal band around his antler from when he broke it (reindeer normally shed and regrow their antlers every year, so he should have long since shed the broken one and grown a new pair.)
Sanji saying "It's a monster" is such an underrated line imo. Peak Sanji in such an understated way. Up there with "Our sniper sure is amazing, huh?". He's such a sweet guy sometimes.
Moments like that are what made Sanji my favorite, all the way back to the classic "do you know about the All Blue?"
@@riatsila144 I really miss that goofier genuine smile he had when he talked with passion and excitement in the old artstyle
@@jumpyjasmine3735 absolutely. I still love One Piece. But the old style all around is just so full of joy and wonder, especially exemplified by Sanji's big grin.
It's all just so nostalgic, and I'm always happy to go back to East Blue.
I love these moments where Sanji drops his act and lets out the biggest smile ever when he's taking about things he's passionate about, especially his cremates.
Yeah him beingsweet, and badass i amazing. also him chering up ussop.
Everytime someone says theyâre annoyed at how baby he is Iâm like dude he was literally treated like a monster and isolated from people what the fuck?? Let him live a happy life
I'm gonna guess it's because people don't like cute things or they just want him to fight more (even though it's not even his job in the first place-)
for those very reasons chopper also isn't going to have the maturity to not act like a kid. He's learning and doing his best dammit!
To be fair he has shown immense growth, he just sadly got toolittle spotlight. Like zoo he as probably used most.
Also he deserves more biounty for his medicalskill alone dammit.
â@@laidbackdevil2248facts, he's the same age as Luffy was when he set off to sea and we KNOW he wasn't competent. Chopper is the only straw hat still under 18, like he's ACTUALLY a child. He's a child and even still hes a necessary crew member and always puts in everything he has, even if hes scared.
he's literally 15 pre timeskip and 17 after
why are ppl surprised tht he acts like a kid????
A huge moment for Chopper that I loved was this line in Thriller Bark.
"Our captain doesn't care if you're a monster, a cyborg, a pervert, a long-nose, or a moss head."
He's no longer only calling himself a monster.
I know this comment is more serious, but this line is so funny đ
@@muezzus2626 Yeah, it is pretty funny.
he doesn't callout Nami and Robin because he supports girls
@@devforfun5618 Love his "Support Girls" t-shirt on that International womans' day spread, it's so cute
In the fishman island arc, Chopper fully embraces being called a monster.
13:32 Thank you, I have been saying this Hiluluk is a psychiatrist who has to become a medical doctor because his country capitalizes on healthcare ( too real). I really like what Kureha says to Chopper, "You can't save anyone by just being kind without medical knowledge", she always criticizes Hiluluk, she has medical knowledge but never does anything for the people unlike Hiluluk who is full of kindness. her character is so good, also she learns to be kind from Chopper and after Hiluluk's death which is really a so subtle character development for a minor side character.
Ithink she also did from kiluluukand did embrace that more after he is gone. Also they really were either good budies or more. ...
But yeah tshe gets even more involved affter supporting dalton.
If more psychiatists were like Hiluluk, the world would be a better place.
âWho do you call a minor??!!! Kick!â - Kureha :)
Small correction: Psychiatrists ARE medical doctors. Psychologists/Therapists aren't; that would've been Hiliuluk's true calling.
I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion but I love chopper's dynamic with Zoro. Zoro is like the proud dad who looks after chopper and teaches chopper. I don't know but everytime Zoro is proud of chopper and smiles at him I feel warm inside lol
True, and I think is cool how he doesn't treat him like a child
When chopper gets to be the one to rescue Zoro from the chimney in water 7 đ„°
I love how Oda went "Nah the anime voice too damn cute, needs to be a mascot"
Chopper really got his chance during Wano too

This
This shit GOT ME.
While I had always been sad during choppers backstory, this video helped me realize how fucking PAINFUL that gunshot was.
My heart is cold and I am shook
I'm shaking, crying and shitting rn omggg
â@@depressodaliato6672 literally me
I think for me the most painful part was the confrontation with Kureha about the Amiudake mushroom. It's just the fact that Chopper being child and with child like association thought the skull in the book was the same as the jolly roger was just levels of emotional pain that I did not expect. It was just an honest mistake on Chopper's part but Hiruluk had to accept it because of the great sacrifice Chopper took to find a way to cure him. Because the most painful thing about it was that no one was in the wrong for doing the things they did. It's just tragedy in the rawest sense possible. If I didn't know any better, Oda had a sick sense for knowing how to come up with the most fucked up ways in traumatizing a child.
Bruh I'm crying right away when seeing that scene again.
Chopper's backstory is one of those that hurt me the most. Imagine loving someone so much that you would die for them in a heartbeat, but you are the one who ends up poisoning them
Ohhhhhh.... That hit a bit too close to home. But also, so true.
The amount of times I cried at Choppers story, the beautiful scene with the gorgeous pink tree, Doctor sacrificing himself, how can Oda make me cry 20 times in one arc I have no idea
The man is a legend. He had me crying during robins story
Bro I cried while watching this video đ
Even though it was played off as a joke, the moment in the Return to Saobody Arc in which Chopper gets fooled into thinking the Strawhats abandoned Robin is genuinely heartbreaking. You can see the pure shock and disbelief in Chopper's eyes, and the utter disappointment that staying completely isolated from his only friends for two years to gain the strength to protect them was pointless because those friends had changed. It seems very intentional that Chopper didn't break down until it was fake Luffy that told him to give up on Robin.
It also shows how despite having grown and healed a lot since his beginnings, Chopper is still very much vulnerable when it comes to personal relationships and trust. As the one with the kindest and most open heart, he is also the most easily hurt and betrayed. I doubt any of the other Strawhats would have believed even for a second that Luffy would betray them, even if the fake Luffy looked exactly the same as the real one. Chopper, however, still has cracks in his heart and is able to believe that his crew would turn their backs on him. Thankfully, the situation got resolved near immediately and we didn't have to watch Chopper spiral through his past trauma, but it was a pretty haunting scene nevertheless.
Absolutely sublime video as always! I guess we have Brook, Nami, Jinbe, and Luffy left. Those are some of my favorite Strawhats (I do love all of them), so I can't wait!
Also I might have missed it but congratulations on making a Chopper video with memes while somehow avoiding THAT meme. I'm impressed.
Which meme are you talking about?
I really hope that Luffy is gonna be the last SH to cover since heâs the captain and the one who brought them all together as a family.
@@audreynothepburn7663 The crying chopper meme/The One Piece is real meme.
â@@gregorypan is there something wrong with it?
@@Disheartthorn No, nothing wrong with it, just with the amount of meme-ing that MelonTeee puts in her videos I was a little surprised that one of the two biggest memes to have been created out of One Piece didn't make it in the video based on one of the meme-central characters.
I still love how chopper Started as a child looking up at the rest of the crew as the "grown-ups", relying on them and feeling like he should prove himself for them (because of his past like you described); and then turned to an "equal" to them post time Skip and even more with carrot, being now a big brother figure to the bunny mink just like the straw hats were for him
It's weird to think Chopper was the closest to our age in the beginning (9 to 13) and now he's one of us lol
I think another thing that has healed Chopper even more is meeting the Minks. These are a people who not only would take him in in a heartbeat, but who LOOK LIKE HIM. Down to even meeting a cute reindeer girl with Milky. Yes, he's still not quite the same, but they have so much in common already, and again when you compare his more monstrous forms to Sulong.
Chopper has basically been cherished by the minks as an honorary member of their family after just meeting him and then he has a turn to be the leader and teacher to some of them, loved for what he is in addition to who he is. And that makes my heart swell for him.
one thing about choppers writing that i think is so incredible is how although he's a cute character he's never patronized by the characters around him. while the crew often does treat him as a little brother, he's their youngest member after all, they never regard him as anything less than their very valuable doctor. is awesome, even when he displays his most childlike characteristics for a gag.
i once saw a fanart of chopper right after his birth and as weird as it was it made me quite emotional to see a newborn reindeer without any knowledge of the life ahead of him
honestly one of the pieces of art of all time
Where is it
No series has made me cry as much as One Piece. The characters are so complex, and the story can be so deep, but it can still be enjoyed as just a fun story. Seeing videos like this continue to remind me how much this series mean to me â€ïž
âOne represents kindness and the other represents careâ
Ohh yess the emergency food and the cook making the perfect duođ
If you're a real one, you'll love that as an unintentional EXCEL saga reference alone
Something I love about chopper is thar he isn't stupid. He's innocent. When initially believed that the fake strawhats were his real friends it wasn't because he's to stupid to notice it's not them, it's because he's so pure and innocent that he can't fathom the idea of people impersonating them.
Ugh âshut up, letâs gooooooo! Gets me tearing up EVERY SINGLE TIME!
Another thing is: monster point is the same As luffy's gear three. Both get giant, and then both get smol.
Oda is the best at making characters. They are simple enough to be clear and read easily, but have a depth and nuance that enhances all of their actions and interactions. Great video!
When I watched the anime and saw Choppers backstory, it was the only moment so far to break me, especially when Hiruluk gave his speech on when a man truly dies.
Aside from Robin and Sanji, Chopper has the saddest backstory
brook sitting in the corner rn
Law
Chopperâs backstory hits every single note of being an incredible and sad story, I canât watch it without bawling.
Chopper got his own plush line for Jump's 40th anniversary. They had Chopper dresssed as all kinds of Dragon Ball characters, Goku, Vegeta, Buu, Gohan, hell even Chaotzu
While far from my most enjoyed character, his introduction and progression into the pirate he is today is still extremely solid. Needless to say, Chopper will go down as one of the greatest reindeers of all time
Can't wait for your eventual Brook analysis. LOADS of trauma to unpack there
I'd say Brooke is the most transparent of all them.

I love how you give attention to things generally ignored by others. Franky, Usopp, Chopper, etc are never even mentioned by other analyst
Fun fact! It's theorized 4kids skipped so many episodes to try to get to chopper faster, seeing him potentially being suuuuper marketable.
Is it a fact if the first word you use is "theorized"?
@@Karlusman yes it is, because you now know people theorize it.

I like Chopper đ. Thereâs nothing wrong with being a mascot character. Heâs had a great backstory, he has a respectable profession and dream, and heâs funny. What else could I ask for.
I should learn to make characters like him.
Peeps trying to reduce Chopper to 'merch cute critter' annoy the heck out of me, they forget his importance as like, let's take only Zou arc for example, he was the one that organized and treated the mink tribe injuries and poisoning after Jack's raid, and did the very same for Zunisha after Jack's second attack, that's right, Chopper was the MVP of Zou, so give more respect to his name.
This sh1t made me cry just like 8 years ago when first watched Choppers arc.
Chopper is still my favorite next to Brooke. He still has that cute factor after all this time and doesnât need much more development other than helping his friends. Glad to see a video made on the most adorable anime character of all time
Chopper's song (Dr. Tony Tony Chopper) is actually what got me into One Piece, and I ended up relating to him most for quite a long time. Fantastic video, my guess for the next strawhat is Brook:)
I first discovered this show watching adult swim one night and honestly the cuteness of Chopper hooked međ. I hate that people call his pre-time skip design ugly because itâs what literally started my journey to this show. đ„°
I literally cried watching this video. Chopper's backstory gets me everytime. Great video btw.
I think people tends to forget is taht sanji also has High EQ not as high as luffy but still high enough that he knows what word to use to help others
This video helped me realise why Chopper has that metal brace around his right antler. It broke off when he was trying to find the mushroom that would "heal" Hiriluk. Jesus man
"You're trauma does not shape you into something unloveable." That is a beautiful line.
I do adore Chopper & wish he could get more screen time.
The fact that he & Law are both doctors is completely priceless.
Yes, the cook and the doctor are the most caring and loving people on the crew. There no reason this should've made this much sense xD
I didn't ask for 35 mins of crying.. but it has certainly been 35 long minutes of me trying not to tear up and rumble into a waterfall of tears..
These videos really help to look back at the story told so far and give it so much perspective.. Thanks a lot for your work!

I love the way you approach each character, I feel like everyone always talks about how badass the crew is, but in reality they all have some heavy trauma that is made lighter just by being around each other, even when they are mad at each other, itâs still better than the worst they have been through. I appreciate you
Yaaaay, we finally got our Chopper analysis. Nice video đ
I cried so many times during the drum island arc. Your analysis has done this story so much more justice than many people could do. 15/10 video thank you for helping me cry again this morning
I got tears in my coffee
When you brought up the parallels between sanji and chopper it reminded me of the funny coincidence that chopper's VA voiced kid sanji in whole cake island
Your analysis videos of One Piece's characters and themes are some of my favourite things to watch. Love the perspectives you bring and the way you present them. Looking forward to seeing more!
Hey, this video made me cry like a baby.
The writing is wonderful and you covered choppers character really well, and the rest of your content is also beautifully made.
Thank you for the good cry and please keep up the great content!
Leave it to Melonteee to always find a way to include Long Ring Long Land in a video
because it is the important arc in one piece
I love every character dive you make. I rarely learn anything new, as Iâve been traveling with the crew for over half my life now. I just love hearing someone else who much more recently fell in love with OP tell in much finer words than I just how wonderful the world of OP is.
Always a delight to see another character dissection video! Also, much love for Dr. Chopper!
I think Zoro's advice on long ring long land island stand from the fact that Chopper should have believed they would save him no matter what. He shouldn't cry because Straw Hats won't abandon him. Of course Chopper being as traumatized as he is he probably really thought that. Zoro, whenever he realised Choppers feeling or not, isn't the best at expressing emotions so...
One of the most emotional character backstories. Love him so much! BTW didn't know this until recently, but Chopper didn't swap out his pink hat for a new one, he just put this helmet cover over it with the cross and rim part still showing! XD awww

One interaction I enjoyed between chopper and hiruluk is when chopper first revealed he can speak and hiruluk just casually says "So what. I can speak alot better than you". After chopper explained why he didn't speak before. Hiruluk didn't care about what he looked like. It showed what kinda of person hiruluk was.
I always wonder what Odas Plans for Chopper are in the end. Will he create the medicine that heals all illnesses? Will his devil fruit reveal itself, to be a special human human fruit? Or will he become a devil fruit doctor/master? Maybe he will find the tree where the DF grow and will understand the science behind that? Create new ones?
I'm exited to see what Oda has in store for chopper. â€
I'm absolutely speechless. Hearing you break down Chopper's relationships to Hiruluk and Kureha and how they tried to protect his heart and prepare him for when he needs to meet other humans was so gutwrenching. Hearing how he felt he needed to either be hurt to be cared for or to be of use to be worthy of Hiruluk's love broke my heart. The little guy didn't deserve any of what he got.
God damnit, I've had emotional moments in all these videos but I feel like I spent half this video crying. How Oda manages to actually land the ending with Luffy just screaming and that feeling so in character for him and as you said "Just what Chopper needed". God I love One Piece so much.
A beautiful well made video essay, thank you as ever. I honestly can't wait for the rest of the crew.
Man waking up at 3 am and watching a one piece video about chopper is an experience. Started tearing up when I was reminded of how emotional his backstory really was. I love one piece so damn much. Awesome video.

I have no heart to endure Chopper's story, it is such a gut-wrenching one that I can't help myself but cry over it like a baby even today. Oda is a genious.
I think you should have also mention Choppers monster point transformation during Sabaody, when they all fought Kuma and he didnt hesitate chugging 3 rumble balls at once. I think that scene also solidified his mindset after the time skip of becoming a monster thats usefull to Luffy
Choppers story hit me more then anything else in the series back in 2020. Now watching this video and reminding myself of all of thoes moments I almost cried. I love chopper so much đđđ

WE ARE BLESSED TO HAVE YOU IN THE ONE PIECE FANDOM!!!!!
If you want to be entertained, look up Odaâs draft design for the crew before he started, featuring an extremely different Chopper.
The fact that when he went to befrend people they shot him just because he looked weird makes him a little bit similat to Frankensteins monster
Thank you for the video, I love your content and Chopper so much! Your videos are one of the things that brought me back to the fandom (I stopper reading/watching one peace in 2020) and Iâm really glad I did. This story means so much to me

Yes!!! If Luffy chopper impression (with robins hands) isnât in here, I may be slightly disappointed! đ
I'm in Wano in the anime currently, but Chopper and Dr. Hiliuck's story has always been my most tear jerking scene.
You have such an excellent way of conveying/explaining the pain and trauma in media. I have cried not once, but twice while watching your videos, after years of not feeling anything genuine. Keep at it. You have an immense talent for what you are doing here.
Thank you very much. I needed this and to hear this.
It's been 10 years since I first saw Chopper's backstory, in this time I must have read Drum kingdom's arc at least 4 times, and every time I cry like a baby when I see his backstory, and now even as I watch this video I can't stop crying. Him eating the bread and holding the mushroom are 2 of the most heartbreaking panels I've ever read, and I've read One Piece.
There are a endless amount of scenes or lines on One Piece that bake lake me say that it is a work of pure art but the scene where Chopper sees the mountains of the Drum kingdom bloom like a Sakura Tree will always be my favorite as it shows how great a storyteller and artist Oda truly is.
I just discovered your channel and watched a few videos of yours, i want to say thank you for your work. You really dedicated and pay attention to details making these One piece videos, i appreciated your effort.
