Yep. Thatâs the face one makes when Michael McDonaldâs laying it down. â€ïž
This is live, no autotune, just pure heart and raw talent.
Micheal McDonald is just simply a brilliant vocalist.
Capital B indeed
Michael McDonald has one of the most distinctive voices in music history!!!! With The Doobie Brothers and solo!!!! Not all brothers....just "doobie" brothers!!!đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€đ¶đ”đŒđ
âI Keep Forgetting Weâre Not in Love Anymoreâ Michael McDonald with Doobie Brothers. Stunner
More great Doobies - Takin' It To The Streets, China Grove, Black Water, Long Train Running.....I could go on and on :-) FYI - What a Fool Believes won 2 Grammys in 1980 for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. None of them are related. Thanks so much for delving into this Twon!
I never knew the singer here was white. Most of this music I heard growing up was on the radio (no videos). I love how music breaks boundaries & brings people together.
It takes some serious skills to play the piano, synthesizer and sing at the same time.
This was called blue eyed soul.
The Doobie Brothers were a different group with Michael McDonald singing lead. The original singer left with voice problems and McDonald stepped in. The original group has a completely different but no less great sound. Their earlier works are more rock and roll. I like them both ways.
Doobie Brothers "Black Water" is awesome. Has a serious funk to it.
Michael Macdonald also does iconic backing vocals on 'Peg' by Steely Dan
It never ceases to amaze me how a lot of young folks today are just discovering the knowledge about a lot of singers (and groups) who were and are crazy, off the chart great, talented performers. Nevertheless, I'm glad that there are openminded young people like yourself who are still willing to check out the music that was going on back in the day, and appreciating it for how great it was. Thank you Twon. ;-) ;-) ;-)
Yea man..We're ALL blown away by Michael McDonald's voice, including Steve Perry..You missed the 70's as they happened, but I'm glad you FINALLY heard this man's voice !
Glad you're feeling the old school blue eyed soul. Mike is a bad boy.
All singers on the Doobies are great. For more Michael. "TAKIN IT TO THE STREETS"
YES, that is Michael McDonald Face!! You nailed it. Brilliant reaction.
The whole band is incredible.
Doobie Brothers are legends. One of the best live bands of all time.
Michael McDonald's voice is SOOOO good -- so smooth. His tone is amazing. He made the bands he fronted better than they had been.
Oh.....I'm a NorCal girl and these talented souls are from SF....the lovely city by the bay. đ
Well hello my Norcal friend đââïž The city by the bay. Iâm north of Sacramento.
The guitarist, sitting down, yellow shirt, is a literal rocket scientist, on the side. Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.
"Jesus is Just Alright" & "Takin' it to the Street". Two of my favorite songs during that time as "What a Fool Believes" and Earth Wind a& Fire's "September". Those two saturated the radio for good reason.
That guy just sitting back in the chair strumming his guitar is Jeffrey Allen "Skunk" Baxter. Hes an American guitarist, known for his stints in the rock bands Steely Dan and The Doobie Brothers during the 1970s and Spirit in the 1980s. More recently, he has worked as a defense consultant and chaired a Congressional Advisory Board on missile defense. Backed by several influential Capitol Hill lawmakers, Baxter received a series of security clearances, so he could work with classified information.
Try Minute by Minute, Takin it to the Streets, and Micheal McDonald did a song called I Keep Forgetting that really good.
It Keeps You Runnin is another banger by The Doobie Brothers!
Michael McDonald's voice is pristine. It's a pleasure to listen to a man blessed with such a powerful, passionate voice. Check out The Doobie Brothers "Minute by Minute". Just another beautiful performance by Mr. McDonald. I like your videos a lot. You keep making them, I'll keep waiting them. Thank you much.
I've been asking everybody for more Doobie Brothers. Smooth Rock, Please check out Doobie Brothers "Long Train Running" - "Listen to the Music" - "China Grove" - "Taking it to the streets"...... Great Harmonies, Guitars,
Listen to the music đ¶ â€ïžđ
"Smooth rock" really nails it. For sure, it's not pop.
McDonald does a great duet with Patti Labelle, please react to it, "On My Own".
Can't be bettered - a stunning song đ
Now that is a great song
They won a Grammy for this song
Very diverse styles - check out Black Water and Long Train Runnin'
Yes Michael McDonaldâs voice slaps!! Real hard!
Something to know about "The Doobies" is that Michael McDonald wasn't always the lead singer, and honestly, if you get into their earlier stuff (China Grove, Long Train Running, Black Water, others mentioned below), you'll hear the real diversity and funkiness that this band brings to our ears. They were a gift, for sure.
Yes!
"Takin' It To The Streets" is peak Michael McDonald Doobies.
This the great Michael McDonald. A sought after back up singer, he joined the Doobie Brothers when their lead singer became to ill to tour. McDonald filled in for several years, had a great influence on the band and changed the direction of their music. The great ending to this story is that when the original lead singer was well again, he was welcomed back and both continued in the band. As far as I know none were actually brothers, it's just the name. You can hear McDonald doing back up with Steely Dan and other groups.
#NoLimitNation Great band. âLong Train Runningâ is a good one. âđŻ
YES THIS đđ
Michael MacDonald is an incredible singer. His solo career he wrote one of the most recognizable songs ever called "I Keep Forgetting". In 1994 Warren G w/Nate Dogg (Hip Hop/Rap) "Regulate" sampled it. You'd love "I Keep Forgetting" with him solo.
Steve Perry is "The Voice". 4 perfect octaves. Lastly, someone mentioned a all black rock group called Living Colour. Their hit song "Cult of Personality" is a banger.
I highly recommend:
Michael's "I Keep Forgetting"
& Living Colour "Cult of Personality"
"Long train running" is my favorite one
"Listen to the music" is also good
Another great Voice that is very unusual - Bob Seger. He is also a great story teller. Most of his songs tell personal stories. He is a remarkable song writer and truly gifted vocalist. Try Bob Seger - "Night Moves" - "Hollywood Nights" - "Shame on the Moon" - "Fire Lake" - "Come to Poppa" - The original - "Turn the Page" - "Against the Wind" - "We've Got tonight" - "You'll Accomp'ny Me"...... You will love his voice and the music! I promise.
Brilliant song, brilliant voice.
It is such a true JOY to watch you FEEL music.... Keep building ur channel...You got some very special energy đ„
It makes me so happy to see you learn what real Singing and music is all about
Love their high voices - many great songs by them!
No auto tune to help performers back in the day. Of course Michael did not need it. What a performer.
Magic! Thank you for letting me hear this for the first time again! Can you be my
music man Twon? Weâll hitch a ride on the magical mystery tour together! And
we can love all of them..Perry, McDonald, Stapleton, Harrison...all of them! Can
you hear âDesert Roseâ by Sting with me? Always, Peace and Love
I had this song played at my dad's funeral. He loved the band, and looked like Michael McDonald (the guy singing) when he was younger.
Thank you for playing this beautiful track â€
Yes more Doobies, Takin`n It To The street, Long Train Running, China Grove, Black Water, Listen To The Music,
Take Me In Your Arms, Rockin Down The Highway, It`s Keeps You Running`, Jesus Is Just Alright, and more.
The hardcore fans get so uptight about liking one incarnation of the band over the other, but I hear so much funk in the Doobies' music during both eras, man. ("Jesus Is Just Alright", "Long Train Runnin", "Black Water") They always wore that influence on their sleeves.
Forget the Doobies, Michael McDonald is out on his own. The most precious voice on this planet!
I prefer the doobie brothers without Michael McDonald, than Michael McDonald solo career, sincerely...
I love the Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald on his own equally. Pure magic â€
SO reminds me of the many summer vacations in the 70s as a teenager staying in Wellfleet: sand, sun, ocean breeze, grilling outside, and day trips to P-Town: jewelry shopping, art galleries, fresh deep-fried shrimp and scallops, with homemade onion rings, topped off with soft-serve vanilla & chocolate swirled, dune buggie ride tours, whale watching boat rides off Martha's Vineyard ... so carefree and feeling peaceful, enjoying family and meeting people along the way. Ohhh the memories a song can bring back 100%
Great reaction to a great songđŻđŻ
Nice the Doobies are filthy!!! Gotta do "I Keep Forgettin'" for another great Michael McDonald song. And you'll def recognize it from a hip hop sample. Or the "It Keeps You Running" live video for more Doobies soulfulness
Yes... "Takin' it to the streets" next please from them - your reaction... priceless
This tune hit #1 in 1979 and then went on to win 2 Grammy's for Record of the Year and Song of The Year.
What I love about this kind of music is how the white and black volcus join as one...that's the time where there was love and color didn't matter..only love
One of the most distinctive voices in music history!!! đ€đ”đŒđ¶ Yeah I recognize that puzzled look!!! Beyond amazing in concert!!! Joint smokin buddies...."doobie" brothers!!!đđđ€đ€đ€
You are gonna love this group, man. Michael McDonald is a legendary voice. They have a killer outdoor live performance on youtube.
This group was a big group that changed all the time, the line up was always evolving. Members came and went, there was fighting like in any family.
White boy sounding like a brother,he fooled a lot a people. He was gifted that voice for sure.
The last concert I went toâŠthe summer before CovidâŠwas the Doobie Brothers opening for Santana. Talk about the whole place rockingâŠand rock we didâŠall night longâŠit was phenomenal!!!
discovering music like this is the best. Huge generation gap, yet you still appreciate and vibe with it.
Michael McDonald is the singer, had a great solo and backup singer career. He is str8 đ„
You caught the feeling we all did back in the day. Godspeed.
Hell yeah... Michael McDonald! One thing I would have loved to have heard would be a duet with him & Smokey Robinson back in their prime! That would be pure magic...
I've always liked South City Midnight Lady, by the Doobie Brothers
South City's my favorite!
Twon, I think your one of the Best Reaction Video presenters your facial expressions are Priceless. When I am depressed watching and hearing you help take me out of my Depression.
Tiran Porter GOAT bassist for the Doobies. Dee asked him "Are you a half brother?" in that What's Happening episode. but seriously he played so many iconic bass lines for the Doobies
....and this is a live recording. They killed it on vocals. 'It Keeps you Running ' live.....omg.
This song won the Record AND Song of the year Grammy.
Iâve been raised with both Black and White and every other race, from my child hood to my 65th year . I thought everyone listened to all genres of music.
Amazing harmonies without auto tune. Music brings us all together as brothers.
Michael McDonald sang as backing vocalist in...
This Is It w/Kenny Loggins,
Run Like the Wind w/Christopher Cross,
Yah Mo B There w/James Ingram,
On My Own w/Patti LaBelle.
I'll Be Over You w/Toto.
Michael McDonald has his signature song
I Keep Forgetting, sampled by Nate Dogg in Regulator.
đč
Michael McDonald is his name. His vocal gymnastics is amazing!
Nice reaction bro. This was my exact reaction when i first heard Micheal in 1985
Doobie Brothers one of our great all time bands. . Many songs to choose from.
Michael McDonald has a very unique voice. If you've listened to just a couple of his songs, you can easily tell it's him. Such a great tone and beautiful, breathy falsetto.
Your FACE!!! So fun to watch. Whatever woman is in your life is lucky, because she'll always know exactly what you're feeling!đ
A genius piece of music
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band has Clarence Clemens on saxophone.
In case he's unsure why you said this, it's because he asked about "brothers" in a rock band, and Clarence is a "brother".
This is the second incarnation of the Doobies. Their first lead singer head to take time off for health problems, and McDonald was invited to fill in. When their first lead came back they all stayed together, sharing leads on their songs. No they are not really brothers. Only united through the doobie! McDonald also sang back up with Steely Dan and other groups.
When Tommy Johnston left the Doobie Brothers and Michael McDonald join the group their style of music completely changed. A lot of people couldnât get used to it but, I did I like all their music. When Tommy Johnston re-joined the lineup it was absolutely fantastic to have them all together. Michael McDonald fit in perfectly with that band.
Just saw them all together last week!
The singer is Michael McDonald. You really need to check out I Keep Forgetting....
One of my favorites
You should check out the Doobies' "Black Water"
THE DOOBIE BROTHERS "CHINA GROVE",, "TAKING IT TO THE STREETS",, "MINUTE BY MINUTE",, "LONG TRAIN RUNNIN'" & "LISTEN TO THE MUSIC"
My 3 favorites are Without Love, Black Water and Takin' It To the Streets........but i love all their songs.......even without Michael McDonald as the lead singer......the skinny guy with the long hair has a great voice, too...
I went to high school with that skinny guy.
@@TheDivayenta he's cool !!
The lead singer for the Doobie Brothers was Michael McDonald he left the band and went on his own. Check out Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald singing "On my Own". Great song and two beautiful voices coming together.
Who remembers them being on the sitcom What's Happening? đđđčđ€đ¶đ
Michael McDonald the Lead Singer for the Doobie Brothers... His Voice is so Rich that even when you can understand a word he is singing; you will still find yourself grooving to it.... We Need some voices with style and individuality today...
Yes the Doobie Brothers were great. Ty he 60's, 70's, 80's 90 's were great. Twon you review is spot on
You, right before chorus even hits: "His voice slaps."
Me: "ROFL, just wait."
That beautiful voice belongs to: Michael McDonald. No, none of the Doobies are brothers. Michael has done back up for many other bands, like Toto, Steely Dan, etc. Check out Michael's duet with Patti LaBelle "On My Own" and "Yah Mo Be There" with Michael and James Ingram. Michael McDonald still performs; I saw him perform with Toto a few years ago. Steve Perry has a unique voice, so does Michael McDonald, Lou Gramm from Foreigner and Joseph Williams from Toto. Check out Toto doing "Burn".
Long Train Running...and Listen To The Music. đŻđ„đ
Love Micheal McDonald and the Doobie Brothers collection. You gotta see Tommy Davis doing his stand up and imitating him. Funnest thing ever.
That high register voice is controlled falsetto - a great technique if you can master it. The Doobie Brothers' contemporaries The Bee Gees were the experts at it. And yeah, believe it or not, black brothers can rock too ;) "Long Train running" would be a good next choice.
Michael McDonald was the lead singer/co-writer to What a fool believes' & received a Grammy!!
They are not brothers (a doobie is a joint). They're great. If you want to hear a great voice: Beth Hart, Am I the One, Live at Paradisio and K.D. Lang, Crying live.
On the album minute-by-minute which is song was on you can open up the album cover and there's a big giant doobie about ready to be smoked just sitting there
Sing it Michael ahhhhhhhh!!!!!
And FYI.. Santana is a multi-racial band! Check out Woodstock, Santana's Soul Sacrifice. đžâïžđđŒ
