    I used to breed rabbits for about 10 years. My cages were constructed very similarly to yours, except my breeding does had 2'x 3' compartments. Whenever I ran out of the edging for the doorways, I would go to the drugstore and buy the plastic page protectors for papers that had the hard plastic spine that would slide over the folded edge of the page protector. The hard plastic spine was the perfect size for my doorways, and worked out fine for my cages.

    Those cages REALLY AWESOME!!! I raise quail and I make the same cages. I have got a couple of helpful tips that would be great! #1: On your cuts with the grinder. I used a diamond blade because it has grinding surfaces on both sides of the blade to grind down the sharp edges off at the same time as you are cutting. #2: On your hay feeder.... I actually don’t cut all my nipples off because I use some of them to hang them on by curling them around the cage! On the other hand I also use (6) of the J-Clips actually to secure it on. 2 at the top on each side, 2 at the bottom on each side and 2 more on the bottom where it is folded up. I hope this would help you out on the next future builds on your cages? Keep up the great work!

    I like the reuse of the door cut out. I'm currently placing the hay on the floor or in another feeder box. I'll be ordering this wire for new cages this summer. Comment on door, I was concerned about flexable wire and predators getting in. Placing the hay box on edge of the door would make it harder to get in. Very nice video, thanks. Would like to see video on how you gathered the rabbit waste. I'm thinking plastic roofing and gutters.

      Joe Trudeau not with these. Since the wire cage is 1” X 1” they do fine with just eating through the cage. If we cut holes too big, they tend to just pull all the hay out and waste it.

    Maybe use your grinder to "adjust" the J clip tool ? You know, remove a bit of surface area from where the tool grips the clip . . . allowing the tool to get a tighter grip on the clip :)

    Hello from downunder! have just subd as I found this video so helpful. We will be making one like it, just not as long. I only have 2 rabbits I was given Chinchilla x Flemish Giant. I hope to have kits later but for now theyre pets and need an enclosure. Did you ever get to do the part 3? I would like to put a tray on the bottom as Im putting them on my verandah so I can have them close to give them extra care, cuddles n pats haha

    Fantastic videos and great job on the cages. One question, do you cut out the inside of the hay feeder, or do the rabbits just eat it through the door?
    Again, great job!

    This is so cool. I'm on a path of possibly starting rabbits. It will be another year, but we will prepare next summer/fall. This is good info for cage building. Thanks!
    And the bloopers never fail! LOL 🤣🥰

      @@SawyerRidgeFarm - You have no idea how much that offer means to me!!! Thank you! One thing I feel we need to do prior making that final decision is to be able to cook and eat one. My husband's favorite food is chicken and I hear tell that rabbit is super close to chicken tasting and texture. Do you know where one could find rabbit meat?

    • @SawyerRidgeFarm
      @SawyerRidgeFarm  Před 4 lety +1

      Paulla Wells I’m not real sure where you’re from? If you were close to us, I wish I could say I could give y’all some, but we haven’t got to actually butcher any rabbits for a little while because we’ve been gearing up for our big rabbit season with the farm stores we sell to.

      @@SawyerRidgeFarm - I don't believe we are very far from y'all, if you're relatively near the same region as Dutch and Kevin. If I'm not mistaken, they are in NE Oklahoma area. We are in the SW region of Missouri.
      There is plenty of time to see if y'all have the ability to butcher before next fall and for us to see if there are any resources even closer. My only thing is that I want to make sure what we get is what we would raise, if that makes sense. Getting meat from an unknown to us is a daunting thought.

      Paulla Wells I completely understand that! We should for sure have rabbit meat before next fall! And yes, we also live in Northeast OK.

    Hey great video. Love the cages. Only question is with hay feeder on the door. How do the rabbits get their hay on the inside. Don't look like they could get it thru the small squares on the inside or do you cut some squares to make their opening bigger. Just wandering. Thanks.

    • @SawyerRidgeFarm
      @SawyerRidgeFarm  Před 4 lety +1

      On the 1/2” X 1” wire, we do cut small holes for them to get the hay. But on the 1” X 1” wire cages, they can get to the hay just fine! We prefer not to have huge holes or they will pull more out and waste more than they’ll eat.

    The hay feeder was GREAT!!! Did you cut in for the hay? And I smashed the sub and bell!!!
    What dimensions did you cut in the door?

  • @videocompilationvarieties739

    Thank you just what i wanted, but i was wandering how easy it is for rabbit to eat the hay?

  • @jayjiang
    @jayjiang Před 4 lety

    Hey thank you for the video, really like it.
    Some questions:
    1. Just curious how many rabbits are you intending to hold in there? It is really long, so I really doubt whether it can supports that much weight?
    2. Are you holding the cage up or laying it over some ground/stone material?
    3. Is that hay feeder really big enough? My rabbits eat like 6 times hay with your hay box size. So how often do you need to fill it again?
    Thanks again.

    Wish I’d have seen this before I paid a person to make me some cages! The doors are wonky and don’t shut tight!
    How do you get the arc from being in a roll, out of the wire?
    Also, do you suspend these, or is there a stand that you built??
    Love to see more!
    Thank you!

    • @SawyerRidgeFarm
      @SawyerRidgeFarm  Před 3 lety +1

      The arc will naturally flatten out when finished. Right not there on cinder blocks and we have our latest video of a rabbit sled. But we will be suspend this when I get the proper set up I want

    When you add the hay feeder to the door do you cut a hole in the door to get it out.
