    I have found that bringing a duvet instead of a sleeping bag during the summer/spring months really increases your chance of getting a good nights sleep due to you being able to customise your experience

    I live in a tent full time in the UK.
    The one thing that I personally found that makes a huge difference is a layer of mylar under your bag , on top of whatever your using as a mattress.
    Makes a really noticeable.
    difference.
    And if you want a cheap winter use bag Andes make a 700g/m sleeping bag. There on Amazon for £25.
    Most sleeping bags you'll see on the high street are 300- 400 g/m at best.

    I am camping with twin toddlers this summer. We have a pack and play that fits a queen air bed. I'm putting those kid foam squares that connect together under the pack and play, a fuzzy blanket under the air mattress, a thin quilt on top then a sheet, then we have our comforter and their blankies. Fingers crossed lol 😹

    Another 2 things you can do to insulate your air mattress or SIM is corrugated cardboard under your mattress or the interlocking foam flooring tiles for kids. Both really help. I camp on opening weekend in the northeast (USA) and it is typically COLD, like it can snow cold, and i am always snug as a bug in a rug with my cardboard under layer.

    Every time I've gone camping, we lay blankets down on the ground of the inside of the tent, and have froze the entire night plus horrible back pain. The one and last time I went camping, we used an inflatable mattress and it got so hot, we had to take some of the layers of blankets off, and it was so comfy that I will never camp without an inflatable mattress again. Ever! Lol

    I was thinking about putting a grabber space blanket on the air mattress with the silver side facing the humans and then some insulation- humans-blankets or sleeping bags. I figure it will reflect any body heat back up.

    • @Kargol48
      @Kargol48 Před 5 lety

      Hi Derek,
      The Grabber Space Blanket is an excellent radiant heat reflector, but no use against conductive heat loss. So if you put it on a block of ice and sat on it, you still get a frozen bum. It needs an insulator such as an air gap. If you put it under your air mattress, silver side up, it will reflect the radiant heat your body has imbued to the air mattress. Warm air mattress = warm you. Some heat loss will inevitably occur, due to the conductive (touching) transfer between cold ground/blanket/air mattress, but any insulation you can add under the space blanket can only help improve the situation.
      On top of the mattress as you suggest would also have a beneficial effect, but with less insulation between you and the cold mattress, the benefits wouldn't be as great.
      A good bag always helps, but in cold weather insulation from the ground really is key.
      I had several nights uncomfortably cold camping until I tried this.
      Hope it helps.

    What are you views on airbeds/air mats. The reason I ask, as someone just getting into the camping area, I see a lot of people talking about airbeds/mats going down in the night. I even saw an American women, who paid around $200 for a well known mat, and it lost air during the night. Im terrified about paying what they cost, and knowing they may not work due to leakage. Are they that bad, or are they ok nowadays?

    • @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk
      @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk  Před 6 lety

      I prefer the self-inflating mats/pads to airbeds these days. They can be expensive though. I've not had a problem with ones I've tried from Outwell and Vango, and we've also got a Thermarest Mondo-King 3D that's good. czcams.com/video/ms4MYt7xv5w/video.html

    • @8inary
      @8inary Před 6 lety +1

      I will be honest, the pricing on some of these air mats, are just way too much. They near the price of tents for me. Here is an idea for a future video for you to do, any chance of doing a review of budget air mats, that work and dont go flat during the night? The average person just getting into camping, will not pay £250+ for a double air mat, unless of course they are wealthy. Also, can I ask a personal question? When reviewing these products, do you buy them yourself, or are they provided by the company free, for you to do a review? No discourtesy is intended therein, just curious. Thanks

    • @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk
      @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk  Před 6 lety +1

      Yes, that was a very expensive mat. There are cheaper ones. We started with some cheap Coleman Air Beds that still work 15 years on. We also had some cheap Go Outdoors SIMs, though they don't work properly any more. Unfortunately, that is all pre-CZcams and don't have videos. I like your idea though of doing a comparison of cheaper gear.
      We do buy some of the gear. If there are items I think are good, I see if I can get a free sample from the manufacturer, just like magazines do. It gets too expensive buying the gear just to do reviews, and leaves me and my family out of pocket. It also takes a lot of time. But really like your suggestion and I'll see what I can do.

Is it supposed to be a rock music video or an informative video about camping?

    Wat about that weird sweaty cold feeling you get when you wake up in the morning?
    If u know wat I'm talking about, how do u prevent it?

    • @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk
      @GetoutwiththekidsCoUk  Před 7 lety +4

      It's probably because you got over hot at night and sweated. The sweat then cooled, making you cold.
      This can be made worse if you are on something like an airbed where the air inside it has got cold, making you feel hot and cold at the same time.
      If your sleeping bag is too high a rating for the season, get a cooler bag. Also, try sleeping with it not zipped up all the way, and maybe with your arms outside the bag if you are not too cold. Make sure you still insulate under your sleeping bag, even in the summer.
      Hope that helps.

    Some great tips! We prefer the camp bed or "cot". we have a double that is like the image you show. It is just short of a full size, One of the benefits to me is, it is easier to get in and out off, ours packs very small for its size (6" x 8" by 38"). We use a cheap Mylar emergency blanket under our sleeping bags to reflect the heat back towards us and keeps out the drafts. We travel and camp out of our 1973 MG Midget so packing space is very important to us. hope to see you on a campsite near us soon. Most people DON’T camp with air mattresses! Air mats test but completely different than what you’re showing and talking about and for many reasons that a very bad! No matter where you camp the evenings get chilly and no amount of blankets or sleeping bags are gonna keep you warm from the cold air directly under you. A camping air mat has insulation and protects against that cold air that draws all your heat away from you! Even the foam mat is warmer and having kids I would never or them in an air mattress camping..

      I left hammock camping off as it isn't that common or practical for families here in the UK.
