- Air defense systems play a critical role in warfare, especially in the intense air conflict of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Both sides have amassed numerous air defense systems. Ukraine, for instance, boasts highly prized Patriot systems from the United States capable of intercepting a wide array of missile types.
On the other hand, Russia's arsenal includes the formidable S-400 Triumf, a long-range surface-to-air missile system with a range of up to 400 kilometers. However, the significance of this system doesn't end there; its successor, the S-500, promises to further enhance Russia's air defense capabilities.
This cutting-edge S-500 missile system first captured public attention in 2015 while still in its design phase. By 2021, Russia announced that the state-owned company Almaz-Antey, the developer of the S-500 systems, had secured a contract for 10 such systems, with deliveries expected to start in the first half of 2022. However, delays and setbacks prevented the debut of this air defense system.
Recent developments suggest a change is imminent. On April 23, General Sergei Shoigu, the Russian Defense Minister, revealed that the latest S-500 anti-missile systems would be delivered to Russia's military forces starting from 2024. What's intriguing is that these systems will come in two distinct formats: ballistic missile defense systems and extended-range anti-aircraft missile systems. This development raises questions: what capabilities does this missile possess, and should Ukraine and its allies be concerned?

How can Russia S-500 system be a threat? Unless you are the aggressor attacking it. If you attacking it then it shouldn't be considered at threat, it is a defense system..
