- Hudba
My wife and I have seen them twice when they were in Chicago. It was fantastic. The crowd really showed their appreciation. They not only played their music but they also told their story and answered questions in between songs. Leonid’s son speaks pretty good English and he did the translation as most other members of the band don’t speak English. Hearing their story made the show that much more special.
Leonid was so thrilled to be in the city where the band Chicago started.
Also...When they landed in the USA a person at the airport asked if they were popular in Russia. The band member answered “No. But we are really popular in the US”.
Here is the story as I understand it.
Leonid first heard Chicago in 1972. He lived in Siberia, Russia which at that time was part of the USSR behind the Iron Curtain. Leonid was a budding musician at the time.(Leonid said Things were so bad in the USSR you couldn’t buy musical instruments and had to build them from scratch. People stole parts from phones in phonebooths to get parts). At that time Leonid hated horn music. That was until a fellow musician played for him a reel-to-reel tape with American horn bands including Chicago, Blood Sweat and Tears, and The Tower of Power. Leonid was hooked.
Roll ahead over 40 years later ... The USSR is no more and the Internet and CZcams exist. Leonid turns 60 and gives himself a birthday present. He gathers some of his best musician friends and records a Chicago song, makes a video and puts it on CZcams under the name Leonid and Friends. Somehow someone from the real band Chicago sees that video, loves it and gets it posted on the official Chicago website. It goes viral. Leonid and Friends make more videos. Roll ahead 4 years...Leonid’s wildest dreams come true when he and his Friends do a short tour of the US in LA, New York, Dallas, Clear Water Florida, and Chicago (of course). At each show they play to packed out venues filled with adoring fans who share a love for the music of Chicago.
How cool is that.
Where is the "Love" button?
Thank you for posting their story.
SO COOL!
Really appreciate the insight. Thank you. As musicians get older and bands dismember, I feel its a serious heartfelt tribute to them for others to pick up and play their renditions. This group however is far and away different. These guys are seriously passionate and it shows. I absolutely love them.
Thank you for the story and thank you for using paragraph breaks!
A big hug to Serge , I know he must be suffering for his country and everything that´s been going on ... hope his family and friends are ok. Greetings from Colombia
God be with them.
Me too ❤️
Same here ☝️ 🙏
🇲🇽
Love Serge. Praying for his safety and that of his family. 🙏♥
Once Russia wipes out ukraine they can reunite
These musicians are not only talented, but look they are really having a good time and enjoying themselves.
Those boys in the "clap section" were really having a party! 😁
Yes they were and I love watching them 😂🎉🎉🎉
Good replication of what Chicago's horn section was relegated to during the David Foster era.
The language of music is international. These guys are beyond incredible!
So hard seeing Serge in the same room as the rest of the band. This horrible time needs to end peacefully so he can sing right next to Ksenia and everyone else. 😢
Couldn't agree more❤ I wonder n worry about them every day😢
Yes that would be marvelous 🌹🌹🌹🌹
In the 70’s I attended many in-studio rehearsal sessions and several recording sessions and was lucky enough to be part of a chart topping hit. I have never experienced the fun energy level these musicians display on all of these songs. They are extremely competent and confident and enjoy creating music with each other.
From arrangement, performing to mixing ... Leonid and Friends is the best act right now. Much LOVE from San Francisco!
I also consider myself lucky to have seen them Live in North Bay right before the pandemic!
Remember this song in ‘84. And how good and its video was. Rooted for it to reach Billboard #1. Alas it stalled in the mid teens. Just so much on the radio, back then!
I VERY MUCH LOVE YOU ALL, PAST AND PRESENT. LEONID YOU ARE A BELOVED GENIUS.
This group is beyond amazing!
Listen to those vocals freakin incredible and then you have Sergei shredding the lead and they can do it live as well !😊
I am blown away by this group. I've seen Chicago numerous times thru the years. They sound very close to them! And yet they don;t speak english??? How do they do this? Incredible!
Serge, your best vocal to date, bravo!
LUV the performance....And the awesome, enthusiasm of the band members supporting the song was amazing...Ksenia brings a particular softness and beauty to the song' s performance!! Hope Serge is safe !! as all L&F members.
Gosh darn...I cannot listen to this enough!!!...everyone is point on, spot on, so good...I love how Serg, while he is singing is air strumming a guitar like Joe Cocker...LUV IT!!
I'm 69. "Blood, Sweat and Tears" is my beginning of my admiration for jazz and jazz rock. And then, of course, "Chicago" for life. "Leonid and Friends" is a discovery for me. Stumbled across the internet and ... shock! Great musicians, great vocals, wonderful arrangements. Everything is great! I really enjoyed it. Thank you. Moscow. Russia. A big hello to all fans of waiting for rock!
This probably is their best performance ever. I can see they are enjoying the music, Ksenia and the band members are relaxed yet giving their best, no one is the "star" they work together so smoothly. I wish they could return to those priorities...
I love it ❤❤❤❤
Great song..with the great cover band.....
S-U-P-E-R-B !!!!! 10/10 !!!!! Best cover of CHICAGO I've ever heard !!!! You are Eastern Europe version of Chicago!!! Greetings from Serbia, Belgrade!!!!!
Nailed it again. They never miss. Perfect.
got a couple words wrong; but still awesome
Sending lots of LOVE and PRAYERS for PEACE & TRANQUILITY to Leonid, Serge, Ksenia and this remarkable group!!!!
Pls consider adding later 80s, early 90s Chicago or Cetera gems incl: What Kind of Man Would I Be, I Believe, You Come to my Senses, Look Away and of course Glory of Love!
I just love this.. Sergey is the best guitarist ever imo. The bass player also brilliant on this. Great vocal from Serge as always. But they are all great of course.
Ksenia - Easily one of the most beautiful women on the planet
With her standing next to you it undoubtedly will help to sing this song and mean it.
She is the reason the Arctic is melting! LOL
Agreed. Saw them in Pittsburgh a couple months ago. Ksenia in person is a sight to behold.
She is quite a looker👀
*number one of
I love the horn guys jamming out in the other room ;D
I love that there is a camera for the people just jamming along, much appreciated
Proof, I believe, that Chicago's later music was / is just as hard hitting as their older material.
Everyone, including the band members who are idle in that room, can't help but rock out and sway to the music . . . . !!!!!!!!!---
EVERYTHING about this song feels physically good.. From the timing of the drums, the incredible guitar riffs To.the awesome vocals . . .
Holy crap! What a cover!!! That was real good!!
Great vocals again Serge!!!
I could watch Sergey play 🎸 all day long.
I've heard this song a million times but never really listened to it until now
This is a great song. Let's start there.
Watching the entire group put this together is just so much fun, all the way to the guys in the booth watching and getting into it.
I hope we can ALL (Serge) get back together and celebrate music as one VERY SOON!
Slava Ukraini!
OUTSTANDING !!
Fantastic Music!
I am a total diehard fan of you all! I can't stop watching your videos.
I know the feeling
Nice to see the horn section in the video in spite of not playing on the tune.
I love seeing the Horn Section dancing and cheering on, since they have nothing to do on this song, there's no horns! lol
Yeah, it's a decent song, but I much, much prefer Chicago WITH HORNS. And that of course was Chicago's doing - moving away from horns - not these excellent dudes and dudette!!
@Gianni Abbenda Yes and no. As a long time Chicago fan (and Jazz fan) I hated the move away from their classic sound. But from a business standpoint, Chicago made the right decision. If you look at how their albums performed, sales started declining with Chicago 13 (first album not to hit platinum), and XIV really bombed (didn't even hit gold). The record buying public taste changed - so they made a decision to embrace the ballad sound - and it paid off. 16, 17, 18 and 19 all went platinum, with 17 being a 6X platinum seller (and their Vol. 2 Greatest Hits album was a 5X platinum seller).
And they're nice to look at too ♥️🎺
#lovethetrumpeter
@@kevinwilt3918 No one was really using horns in the 80s. It was the era of synthesizers and electronica. Chicago had to shed the horns, but they still used them in places. I feel that with the right hit song, Chicago could've brought the horns back in the 80s but they never had the right song for that in the 80s.
@Gianni Abbenda That's your opinion. Record sales during the Cetera/Foster era will show that they were a huge success.
Great job fellas and young lady!
His voice is so crisp. The only other singer whose voice is as clear and crisp imho is a young Steve Perry. Great version of this!
Just freaking amazing!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
awesome!!!!!!
She is beautiful.....great song
Once in a Lifetime
These guys (and girl) are having too much fun! And besides, they're fantastic!
What a voice!!!!
The "Groupies" are doing a hell of a job! ;-)
Ksenia really knows how do it all just right !
If you get the chance, see Leonid & Friends in concert! Fantastic! Saw them last night and loved every minute. Incredible musicians! So happy they are here in the USA.
Now I don't care for what I call "Cetera Chicago". However I'm mature enough to admit there are people who do and I'm willing to bet that for those who do enjoy "Cetera Chicago" this was amazing. These guys obviously love Chicago and have tremendous talent. Once again they knocked it out of the park.
I'm not a fan of "Cetera Chicago" either but I'm a huge fan of these guys. Peter Cetera was *only* tolerable to me within the context of Chicago. Outside of them, he seemed like a preening narcissist. I much prefer this guy's voice to Cetera's. He's straight up a better singer.
Oh man, the spirit of the Chicago Transit Authority lives on in the hearts and souls of these wonderful people from the Ukraine. Respect. From a loyal subscriber.
Beautiful, dedicated, hardworking, funloving band of truly gifted, passionate musicians. Much love to all of you & bravo to the maestro Leonid! [Wonderful that the horn section stayed on in the studio as enthusiastic cheerleaders 😍]
I llove the guys rocking out in the control room!
Great Song, and Great Band, you guy are fantastic
The Pareto Principle:
I spend more than 80% of the time watching Ksenya in this video, even though she sings fewer than 20% of the vocals.
Oh man, that's a LOCK! And great job by the guys in the booth, I was laughing my ass off!!
Can’t wait to see you in Fort Myers, Florida later this month! So happy that you’re bringing the show here!
More Awesomeness! WOW!
Once again pure gold
I bought their album Chicagovich. Fantastic music all around lady and gentlemen.
i dont ever care if is a Peter Cetera or Chicago song, is a really fantastic cover¡¡¡
Great job!!!!
Outstanding.
You all are frickin' AWESOME!!!!!! You stay true to the originals. GREAT musicianship. I love you guys ❤❤❤
Awesome awesome
Do you have Merchandise ? Please come to Canada.
This looks like FUN!!
I listen to your music every day 😁
The first cassette I bought for myself in high school was "Chicago 17". It was all I could afford for a long time. I listened to that tape hundreds of times. I know every note. FANTASTIC JOB!
Serge sure nails the vocals! Great job by everyone.
Excellent!
Ksenia has a fabulous voice!
You should hear her sing folk songs in Mandarin! She was born in Siberia near the China border.
And that's not all😍
I met her after a show and she is the sweetest person. Very humble
An excellent cover! When I listen, I am back in the summer of 84 watching Friday Night Videos...
They look like they truely enjoy the music they are playing. You can see it in their faces, and you can for sure hear it in the way they play.
Another one from The best tribute band in the world ! You guy's are like clockwork
Tour America like Brit Floyd. You all are just fantastic.
Best cover group that I have listened to. Love it
Agreed100 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Leonid and Friends - if you toured the United States, you would make a fortune. You are amazing musicians! Love all your videos, thanks for sharing all your talent with us and keeping the amazing work of Chicago alive.
As usual another excellent performance ladie and gentlemen! We will see you again next month!
love the harmonies!
Really, it's tremendous work. To all that I have put this they have been surprised. I've seen the rest of the work and it's amazing. Nowadays neither " Chicago " itself sound like that.
GENIALES..! EXCELENTES MÚSICOS, ME GUSTA COMO SE DIVIERTEN HACIENDO LO QUE AMAN LA MÚSICA, QUE ES UNIVERSAL!! SALUDOS DESDE CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO!
Even though this is really more of a Peter Cetera Cover than full Chicago, It's still as great a performance as you guys usually do! Thanks again for the great recreations!
One of my favourites of Leonid & Friends (besides Street Player). Unbelievable passion for music!
Awesome. Just awesome! Please do 'Just You N Me' and let those mean horns growl!!
Excellent !
Why am I grinning ear to ear... Love this band... The videos and music are so uplifting. Thank you.
Love the shots from the booth! Fun!
What an awesome job guys.. I love this band.. just bought tickets for Portland, Ore show..
Is it too late? I'm in Portland, Or too. I want to see these guys.
@@lamarravery4094 Nope.. they are playing Nov 13th.. at the Aladdin
Great cover from all of you. You're really doing justice to these tunes. Take it from someone who's been listening to Chicago for almost fifty years.
Good cover band. Chicago wrote so many great hits. It's nice to see that others recognize that and are trying to keep them alive.
Shiiiiinnnniiing❤ Thanks 💋💋💋💋💋💋
Crushing, absolutely crushing it!!
You guys are phenomenal
Damn! They’re fantastic
Bravo Bravo 🙌❤️🎤🎶🎵🎶🎤🎸
Absolutely majestic. Thank you for honoring us with another incredible song and video
This is the first Chicago song I remember hearing/seeing on MTV at the age of 14. I always wondered what the horn section was doing during the recording. Now I know.
