Lighthearted and aimed at a general audience, you can use these terms to learn more about the traditions and terminology of Judaism and specifically this festive holiday.
There are many variations of these pronunciations throughout the Jewish world, however the Modern Hebrew pronunciations are reflected in this video and suggested English pronunciations may depend on your native accent.

I'm working hard to learn to pronounce Hanukkah correctly, because I have to make a happy holidays greeting to an American publisher, that will send it to their clients.
I have turned it into a Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah greetings instead, after I realized, we non-Jews should be more inclusive and share our love with the Jewish community.❤✡🕎🇮🇱
Toda Raba (& Hanukkah Sameach)!
Happy Hanukkah 🕎 tonight is the eighth night.
I'm hungry now!

I'm fluent in Hebrew... why the hell am i watching this?
Always nice to confirm what you already know!
My Bubbie would have answered: Child, it's a five letter word starting with g and ending in t, Now come inside.. eat... its cold outside.
I don't know Hebrew, been around it and Yiddish, mostly music on and off when I was younger and I miss it... It's just a fun, beautiful language! And the dude keeps it energetic!
shut up
@Ella Bartal - not sure LOL!! Perhaps to make sure people such as myself who are in the process of learning Hewbrew doesn't get the botched version?
Will you be uploading more videos like this soon??!
Rosh Hashana Words coming this week!
Linguistix Pronunciation Todah!! 😊
Chag Hannukah sameach ❤
חג חנוכה שמח!
I wound up here because I wanted to see if the KH is my last name Khan is similar to Hanukkah... The only other language I know has that sound or similar to it is German.. Achtung.. I am not even sure if Khan, Hanukkah and Achtung have that same Guttural KH sound....
Get a load of Afrikaans, some time. Eish.
The real challenge is the Hebrew "o"...I can never get it right. What you do with your lips and mouth is entirely different than it is in English.
Maybe this will help? czcams.com/video/pOfKdvSbE64/video.html
Thanks for the warning!! I'm at the very beginning.
There is!!! Pączki is another word for doughnuts.😆😆😆
I don't know if this is correct but I say Hanukkah like HU-nukkah
This video made me hungry...
Aaron Booth same!!
I understand the Khanoo keeyah, but if a Minorah only has 7 candles, how are they lit for 8 days? I'm not Jewish, just curious to learn more :)
Great question! The Menorah is not used for Hanukkah, but it's one of the most widely used Jewish symbols in the world. Over the years, it's been used in art, coins, synagogues, jewelry, and logos, including the official emblem of the state of Israel.
It represents light (from the candles/oil), completion (which is signified by the number 7), and perfection (gold material)
Before Hanukkah Menorahs became a “thing”, there was only one single Menorah - the ancient golden candelabra from the Jewish temple.
Ashkenazi/Jamaican Jew here. Nothing to add, I just loved this question and the response. Learning about other cultures/people is beautiful. This is what gives me hope that the apocalypse is not now. Shalom. 🖤
Shalom. "Doesn't really do much good for the Hebrew stereotype"? Wutchu talkin' 'bout? It all sounds good to me. Now if I could just pronounce it.😉 Shalom and Happy Hanukkah.✌️🕎🤘
Shalom and Happy Hanukkah to you! Which Hebrew stereotype are you referring to?
@@Linguistix Whichever one you were referring to in your video. I guess I'm just one of those people who don't pay attention to that stuff. I like what I like. If I don't like it, it's only because I tried to like it first. Hebrew sounds cool to me.
I eat latkes several times a week... Trader Joe'schk has great ones!
Haha, you're wonderful. I don't really know Hebrew, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you have no accent in English AND no accent in Hebrew. Well, I'm sure you have no accent in English! And beyond no accent, you sound American in other ways too. But your Hebrew is so good, you also sound like you grew up in Israel. So, I would like to ask you where you grew up?
Ahhh, I should have done a tiny bit of research! Wow, I'm really in awe of people like you. I know it's not only native talent, but also work. Having a good ear, from what I understand, cannot get you all the way there. Still, though, to me that ability, the combination of talent and skill, it's just incredible. Oh, but, hey, I was kind of correct from what I'm reading about you -- you grew up in a lot of places, and two of them were the US and Israel. So, I'm proud of myself considering I really wasn't sure your Hebrew accent was perfect! The bit where you speak English in a heavy Hebrew accent should have been a giveaway that you are an accent expert, though, huh! OK, you can see that I am fascinated by all of this from my long comments. Thank you!
OK. Now I'm watching your clips (or...not just clips; the one I just started is 46 minutes long) on your site, and holy moly, you are an amazing teacher. Yiddish is not listed among your languages, but maybe you know what a "teachika" is? That's "Yinglish," of course, and it means a natural teacher, someone who loves to teach and is very good at. I am now going back to your "Do I Detect an Accent Video," bye!
Thanks so much! Great job :)
You are welcome to hear our musical version of the candle lighting song.
