Apparently modders found it very easy to mod GBA GBC funtionality back into a first gen Wii... Because it's not a hardware problem. Apparently ninty locked it out for some reason.

You know something that I kind of wish they did, I wish they added some characters from the GBA games as extra units for the trial Maps. Like Lyn, Hector and Eliwood for Blazing Sword, Seth, Erika and Ephraim for Sacred Stones, and Roy, Liliana and Binding Blade's Jeigen.
maybe It would have taken too much time. But I think there should have been more to the GBA connectivity than just art.

If I recall, Awakening's website (at least the NA one) had the art for all the 1st gen characters and the wiki already had everything for the 2nd gen characters around December of 2012. ...Wondering of Kozaki being burnt out had something to do with it.

Ah that Map music brings me back to Fire Emblem Awakenings Infinite Regalia DLC where I would farm Legendary Weapons and train up my units and considering the cheery tone of the song and that DLCs dark undertones it isn’t exactly fitting there as well... and I’ve just realised that Awakening came out in the West 5 years ago.
I would adore to see Alight and A Dark Fall to be back in some way in Three Houses, maybe in a Fates themed special map or DLC maybe.
Trial Maps seem like a fun idea that I hope they revisit someday since it would give you a good amount of postgame content and allow them to experiment with enemy layouts, enemy stats and the like. Although one thing that kinds of irks me is that to get some Trial Map exclusive characters in some games you have to complete the game about 8 times. Which considering how long a Fire Emblem game is that is a massive amount of time to dedicate to getting every character. I personally don’t play most games more than twice and the most I’ve gotten on a very long game was about 5 times.
I can perfectly understand why you’re not that big a fan of Binding Blade. To me it seems like a case since it and it’s prequel have pretty much the exact same gameplay with a few tweaks here and there and since Blazing Blade ironed out its kinks there is little reason to go back to it apart from characters and from what I’ve seen the amount with strong or interesting personalities make up a 6th or less of the roster so you’re left with just Unit performance which a lot of them struggle in. And say what you want about Blazing Blades characters I can least find something that interests me about all of them in comparison which just makes Blazing Blade seem like the better game although some people might just want a challenge which it does give more than Blazing Blade which at least gives it something but that’s just my opinion on the matter.
Considering we have Nephenee Being very destructive i have only just realised that in a window next to the weapon name of a refined weapon it shows the skill icon of whatever skill the refinement has given the character. Like refining the Dauntless Lance gives the Speed/Defence stance which i would call Steady Stance considering the name of its initiating combat counterpart is called Steady Blow but considering that name is already taken. so her weapon icon has the skill icon has the Skill icon for that line. Which is quite cool and even normal Speed refines have the icon for the Speed + skill line.
So the new Legendary Hero is going to be Blue and people are guessing that he or she is most likely Earth aligned as it’s been the longest since a new Earth Hero was introduced and something about how a string of Earth Seasons is now due or something. Although I see Wind as the 2nd most likely as Fire and Water have both been rather recent. So we need a character who is Important to their game of origin, Can wield some kind of Legendary Weapon or has a personal weapon and if they have some kind of elemental affinity it doesn’t fall under the other elements if we are looking for a pacific one. Like due to Eliwood wielding Durandal we can assume any Legendary Banner that isn’t set to introduce a Red Fire Hero will not feature him. I’ve seen people guess Micaiah cause as a Light Magic user she would fall under Blue, is very important to the game she’s in and she has affinities with Light and Darkness. So there is nothing precluding her from being Earth apart from how you could make an argument that she fits Fire more considering how Light heats things up. If so it would be funny that both of your Fire Emblem playthroughs since Heroes launched would have had new Heroes from the games you’re covering released at about the same time. Although there are other options like Caeda or Male Robin just to name a few options. So do you have any guesses?

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Před 6 lety +1

Oh right, Light and Dark played for that one. Forgot about that. And the battle theme was Arvis' battle theme, right?
Alight - Storm, yes. Alight itself I find pretty boring. Also, Dusk Falls is a great song.
8 isn't the half of it. To unlock the final Trial Map character in this game, you need to beat the game 15 times. I've never seen anyone who has that character without hacking.
Blazing Sword has much more interesting characters, better mission variety, better music, better balance... that's the problem with getting a sequel before the original. (Prequel, but same difference. Also, what were the localizers thinking giving us a PREQUEL as our first FE game?)
I noticed that a while ago, but some of them have unique icons, like Brunhyldr or Soren's new weapon.
I think it's going to be Hrid. Probably. If it's Earth, it'll be annoying because everyone already has a free Earth legendary. I still don't have a Wind or Fire one.

I know literally nothing about these trial maps, but they seem kind of interesting. I like the idea of limited deployment, but not really a fan of having to stall unnecessarily for top rank. I hope that’s not the case for all of them.
19:34 Honestly I kind of feel like IS just hated the Ravens or something. Between getting one (half) chapter of Naesala and nobody else in this game, and the availability issues that ravens have in RD, IS created a class of units that you can almost never use. It’s weird. You don’t even get a common raven in this game, and there’s zero reason to use either of the two in RD. What’s the point?
29:15 Yep, birds can shove and their terrain/ledge negation combined with (usually) good transformed Con makes them some of the best units for it.

And, do you find it wierd when the music from Gaiden had no official names until the release of Echoes (excluding with Mila's Divine Protection)? Honestly, I would've thought Celica was Spanish just from the music in Smash Bros.

With the continent's name being "Valencia" in Japanese, I thought it was supposed to be based off Spain. Turns out in Echoes Zofia is more French-ish (which retroactively explains Virion) and Rigel is... well, the name also sounds Spanish but I'm not really sure what they're supposed to be. Being a northern country with cold winters, it kind of seems like Russia.

actually... FE12 has a couple thracia 776 remixes, echoes has "Grima's theme" which is actually forbidden sanctuary from fe12, which also was in awakening, it also has a remix of holy war from fe3/12, awakening also has tiki's theme and a lot of its dlc maps have music from other games, just not remixed.

FE12's Thracia remixes were from FE11, but you only heard them in multiplayer there. (Turn on Fog)
I started a video series on the history of certain songs in FE, only got around to doing Akaniea's though. Which included Awakening's amazing "Legend of the Divine Dragon" remix.
Forbidden Sanctuary was NOT in Awakening, even as DLC. Never expected that song to be in Echoes. Funny thing is, I'd originally planned to use that song in a fangame idea I had, thinking it'd be obscure enough that no-one would really notice. Now most of the FE fandom knows about it.

  • @sam3851

I remember reading a text-based walkthrough of FE7 that aimed for S ranking the game. On Normal, you have to abuse Lyn's story for EXP (you get everyone to... level five? I think) which either completes it or at least makes completing the EXP max rank easy enough when plowing through the main game.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Před 6 lety +2

I forget if Lyn's Tactics rank even counts. I know getting a higher Funds rank with Lyn gives her a better starting gem when she re-joins later (because everyone's inventory gets wiped after Lyn Mode, you don't get to keep anything you got there)
THAT's the main reason why I don't like FE7's ranking system though: the Funds rank. It rewards you for hoarding powerful weapons and never using them. I think it should've just been "open every chest and visit every village in each chapter".

11:28 "WOAH!!" I'm actually interested in getting the N-Sane trilogy for the Switch, so maybe I'll get my dose of 'WOAH!'s.
I usually don't take on the trial maps when I play Fire Emblem games. I feel that once I'm done with the main story, I just want to move on with another game. I think I did the first FE6 trial map once, the one with all the Berserkers and Swordmasters. I kinda like the remixes of the Gaiden themes that play. This one doesn't look too interesting. Here's a bunch of enemies. Here's a bunch of rocks. Have fun.
Personally, I've gained more respect for FE6 ever since playing it for the first time. I don't mind seize as a map objective, and I like the map design overall. Of course, there are a few stinker maps and the earlygame can be really annoying (raise your hand if Treck or Jerrot suicided on your run in FE6 Hard Mode...). I'm in Part 3 of Radiant Dawn and I'm enjoying the game quite a lot so far, though I've heard that Part 3 is where things go down the drain in terms of story. But it just occurred to me that I should have imported a 'game clear' save so I can see the 'second playthrough and on' content. Darn it.

FE5 technically has a magic tile since magic = resistance. You only find them in the last chapters. I also love how they justify saving and deaths... although it's a bit jarring that every single aspect of the gameplay (even loading screens) is justified as an in-universe thing... and yet you can still tell an NPC "This game is too difficult!" They were THIS close to keeping the 4th wall intact...

11:35 I went and watched that one after "Loliver's Mansion" when you brought up the Nephenee Chaos Control Luna. (Am I the only one who's tired of EVERY time stop EVER beiing called za warudo? Seriously, EVERYONE does it. I can forgive that old video, but I really needed to say this.)
23:02 "You have breathed your last!" Sorry, I've gotten into the habit of substituting Ryoma's critical quotes in whenever I get/see a silent crit. I've been playing Conquest (Just cleared chapter 9 last night), but I needed to grind Odin, Niles, and Mozu a bit and Boo Camp is the worst grinding level ever without a suitable crutch character aiding my weaker units. I've also once again made Odin Dark the Hamazing a Grandmaster.
    26:47 I can feel the power.......It is terrifying......yet amazing.
30:16 What?! FE6 actually has objectives that could be fun?! Madness!
31:21 I have to admit, playing Conquest, I really prefer the rest of the 3DS games. Honestly, the main thing I like about the series is the combat animations and starting with Awakening, the voice acting. Also every single variation of Lost in Thoughts All Alone is absolutely amazing and I will Ragnarok Omega Critical anyone who dares defile it, but that's another story.
32:35 I just noticed, Stefan's "Crit and kill" animation is similar to Ike's as a Lord, he just doesn't backflip or turn around. Kinda wish he did at least do the Badass Back thing though.
33:22 Well, Fates has the Lightning tome, which is electric and basically a Brave tome. Speaking of Fates, while I prefer Birthright and Revelation in terms of story and gameplay, I actually am enjoying Conquest. I'm playing on Normal and I'm circumventing the basic idea a little bit with the grinding DLCs, but I'm making sure not to just supercharge my units or build up a ridiculous, endless supply of gold. I'm only using them to strengthen units I feel are falling behind when they really should be more useful or to just make sure I actually have enough gold to get what I need.
    35:42 Enemy crits are terrifying.
Not much else to say. Kinda weird, but meh. Going back to my playing Conquest, one thing I'm going to do is limit myself on how many times I play each DLC map. Every map has some kind of reward for playing them, so for Conquest, I'm mostly going to try to just play them once, maybe twice if I think I need something from them or really, REALLY want a particular skill from that map for some reason.
You know, in general, going back to Fates after all this time.....the game isn't really terrible. The gameplay and map design, even on Birthright, is the most unique and incredibly outright _fun_ of the 3DS FE games, and while the story is easily the worst of the 3DS games......it's not actually horrible. Every path shows different sides of every character, the devs absolutely nailed sibling relationships, and while Revelation has a lot of idiocy before chapter 16, after that point the story gets better and the levels get more unique and fun. Honestly, my only problems with Revelation at the moment are Scarlet's death (which I admit is handled A LOT better than most of the rest of the deaths, but I still consider it pointless bullcrap) and the fact that until they get to Valla, everyone is absolute moron except Corrin and Azura. Well, that and the fact that Lilith never does anything and the party never realizes that it's safe to speak of Anankos outside of Valla. But that's about it.
I still personally feel Conquest has the weakest story (mostly because it has the weakest Corrin and dumbest plan ever), but it's not really terrible. It's not much worse than Awakening's story, at any rate.

11:35 There's a lot of other time-stops I can reference. Stopga, Chaos Control (though that doesn't always stop time, what it does tends to vary)... I think there's a KH boss with a "Time be still!" attack, but I forget who. I wanna say either Xemnas or Luxord.
23:02 I still hear Kegero's weird lisped version. "You've breeth'd your lathss!" Not sure what happened there.
26:47 Heard the first part of that in Shulk's voice. He says that a lot in Xenoblade 1.
30:16 Only in postgame trial maps, which is weird.
32:35 Every other male SM does that too.
33:22 Oh right. I remember loving that tome. Conquest is really fun, one of the most fun FEs to me along with the Tellius games and the GBA ones.
      35:42 Amazed Stefan survived here.
Regarding Boo Camp, I didn't get it until the very end, so by that point grinding low-level characters there (for the puposes of having everyone trained in a "postgame" file) is nearly impossible. I like the idea of it not being free exp, but they didn't balance its level scaling well.
I don't think the story is horrible either, it mainly suffered from SEVERE "hype backlash" from the sheer number of fans that joined with Awakening demanding the best thing ever. Without the hype, I'd say the story would've gone down as disappointing but not awful. I still think Corrin is the worst Avatar though. Birthright is the only route where I think they're decent.
"the devs absolutely nailed sibling relationships" Mostly. I love the interactions between Elise and the other Nohr siblings early on Conquest, but I hate how they pulled a convoluted not-blood-related twist just to justify players being able to marry the Hoshidan siblings. It undermines the main theme of the game.

11:35 Chaos Control is always a time stop or a teleport. Shadow has a few attacks prefaced with "Chaos" but it's always something else after, like Chaos Spear or Chaos Blast.
23:02 I don't really get that one either. It's also the only Kagero line I've heard that doesn't really sound right.
26:47 I also heard it it that way while I was typing it.
I still don't agree that Birthright Corrin is the best. I feel Revelation Corrin is the best. I feel like Revelation Corrin is, for the first half of the game, the Only Sane Man among the cast. Ryoma and Xander just insist on fighting, Yukimura is just a moron, Iago clearly does everything in his power to sabotage Corrin's image... the only ones who aren't complete idiots are Sakura, Elise, Kaze, and Rinkah.
Honestly, that's the main thing I genuinely will never forgive the game for. The whole thing with Corrin's true heritage is stupid and ridiculously last-minute bullcrap just so you can S-rank anyone. Not to mention how Corrin's dragon powers never do anything in the plot after chapter 5 in ANY route. They never even trigger Dragon Fang in a cutscene for any of the fights! What was even the point of making them a dragon?! This isn't even getting into Lilith and the giant waste of a perfectly good character she is. Seriously, they make her Corrin's actual freaking sister, and then nothing! She says and does nothing!

I ended up finding Revelation Corrin a giant idiot, but to each their own. That was mostly post-Valla arrival though.
"The whole thing with Corrin's true heritage is stupid and ridiculously last-minute bullcrap just so you can S-rank anyone" couldn't have said it better myself. And even then, it ends up making one particular S Support awkward with a throwaway comment that adds nothing and doesn't need to exist. "Oh btw, Arete was my sister so you and Azura are cousins."
According to interviews, Lilith was designed more as a "cute mascot character", I guess kind of like Pikachu or Persona 4's Teddie, than an actual story character. Which explains her limited role. But killing off a character who lost all relevance 25-ish chapters ago is really dumb. It's like an even worse version of my complaints on Petrine.

BigKlingy I NEVER understood why they made Lilith his half-sister(especially when he'll never know at all) especially as most "reveals" comes short as "what was the point of this when nothing of impact comes from it".....if anything she should've just been a simple surviving dragon servant of Anankos that's part of the same race that played a decent story role and playable. A shame I would've S Rank her if this happen they could've had some REALLY good potential supports....

I actually list Corrin's actions in Valla as part of my defense of their character. The only really dumb thing they do in Valla is trust Anthony, but that gets subverted as Corrin makes sure to leave a note for their siblings telling them _exactly_ where they went. And I doubt even all the enemies in the map combined could've killed Corrin in Dragon form before the rest of the party arrived. And that's really the only dumb thing in Valla that doesn't involve player choice. The rest of Valla is clearly understandable given Corrin's ties to Mikoto and Gunter, and even then, if the player suspects the trap in Mikoto's chapter, Corrin correctly deduces it as well. And it's pretty easy for a player to fall for it anyway. Plus, Gunter was clearly possessed when Corrin states that they still believe in him. Even going back to when Gunter tries to get them suspicious of Azura, the wording doesn't really imply they just automatically believed him, especially as not ten seconds later Corrin reaffirms their believe in her and the rest of the party. If anything, I think that moment is part of what makes Corrin suspect _Gunter._
Isn't Persona 4's Teddie still actually pretty important to the story overall though? And Pikachu wasn't always Pokemon's mascot, the species simply took that position for their popularity. Sure, Lilith was made as a mascot, but at the same time they intimately intertwined her backstory with Corrin's! And she actually does something significant in Chapter 3, saving Corrin from falling into Valla and then using the MyCastle thing to land safely and let Corrin heal a bit before the rest of the story happens. And then, in Conquest Chapter 7, she just shows up for like ten seconds to keep Corrin company and promptly vanishes when the Faceless attack.

4:03 Gotta reflect on when he didn't look like a malnourished crackhead.
31:25 I'd say time has been kind to RD overall. In general every game has its own vocal fandom and hatedom.
39:28 Was it the Aether VS door glitch?
49:45 Figured that bit about Nephenee being easily picked off via these guys was from a recent experience.

4:03 He's probably the worst Heroes portrait imo.
31:25 I guess it's in a similar boat to FF12: used to be hated, but now a newer game has a more vocal hatedom so people turned around on it. (Well, actually most people find FF12 to be a pretty good game looking back, especially its customizable party AI)
39:28 Yes. Still not sure what caused that, I've Aether'd doors other times without that happening.
49:45 Of course it was. I forgot that even the Trial Map unlocked by "easy mode" had competent enemies.

4:03 The current headcanon I accept is that it's a Morph version of him.
31:25 It always had a dedicated following among the LTC crowd; it was/is mostly just Kris hate.
49:45 At this point I think I can say the majority of the localized FE titles have leaned towards the easy side at their default (though FE7 has Hector mode and RD's a thing; just makes Conquest stick out as being challenging but generally fair compared to most others).

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Před 6 lety

4:03 I've heard that too, and I agree.
31:25 Final Fantasy 12, not Fire Emblem 12.
49:45 The newer ones have a good variety of difficulties, though I still feel like Fates didn't do the middle difficulty well: Conquest Hard is barely below Lunatic and Birthright Hard is barely above Normal.

31:25 ...Damn it. That was something.
49:45 Conquest Normal/"Nohrmal" honestly kinda fits that, at least moreso than the other options available (it's about on par with BR hard but obviously with CQ's maps and gimmicks without going quite as overboard in the skills department).

They could've made vika playable after the desert map for another crow. Not like she's that useful in the next game anyway.
I can't wait to see you use janaff and ulki. They're so cute.
Fe 6 is okay to me because I really like the GBA fire emblems. The desert map is atrocious though.

    • @BigKlingy
      @BigKlingy  Před 6 lety

They easily could have, no reason for her to not be part of Tormod's resistance. Actually, seeing as Naesala is a major antagonist for that arc, giving you a playable Raven then would be a nice contrast.
Cute isn't the word I'd use to describe them, but they're GREAT in RD. Only complaint about them is you need to recruit them quickly in 3-7, otherwise their AI WILL end up charging into some crossbow enemies.
I don't think there's a single person in the fandom who doesn't think FE6 has the worst desert in the series.

RD's desert is annoying too (doesn't help that it's a Rout), but it's not TOO bad... IF you know it's coming and put most of your fliers on Team Micaiah. If you don't...
