    One of the results of this war was that public in the Netherlands, and also politics, became anti Britain. 14 years after the war there was no support from the Netherlands to help Great Britain during ww.1 as a result of this. Of course the queen of the Netherlands was also close family of the “ kaiser” of Germany. That is why he went in exil in holland in 1918, finally died there.

Nothing gets mentioned about the Russians, Americans and Irish that fought on the side of the hated Boer. Probably would have happened eventually, but the British hasten the conflict with the Boers when they without just cause gave the Zulus an unrealistic ultimatum that resulted in the Zulu war. @davethorstry6700 Před rokem

      Brits invaded and subjugated Zulus, which the Boers did NOT do when they had conquered the Zulus in 1838 but instead became allies. They never occupied Zululand. Note that as soon as the brits had beaten and subjugated the Xhosa people in 1879, the Brits then invaded Zululand for no valid reason other than to destroy the allegiance between Boers and Zulus in preparation of their first Boer war attempt. They were that afraid of both Boer and Zulu. After the vile attack on the Zulu's they spent the next eighteen months preparing for the first Boer war. Divide and conquer. It took the Boers less time to defeat the Brits in the first Boer war, than it took the Brits to defeat the Zulus. Then between the first and second Boer war - Brits created a further division between Boer and Zulu while at the same time gathering, organizing the biggest army to leave England to date, along with all their subjugated colonial bully boys among which was the scum mordant and his ruthless murdering bands. A half million man army to fight at the best forty five thousand untrained, poorly equipped/self supplied farmers (Boers) of which many were boys as young as fourteen and men in their eighties. Only by cruelest genocide of Boer's families in their extermination camps were Brits able to bring the Boers to the treaty of Vereeniging to end the war. What the Ukrainians have and are enduring at the hands of the russians, Boers endured for three terrible years.

      Dude just be intellectually honest. If your South African (which with your responses im now beginning to assume your not) you'd know about the history of the Voor Trek. What happened when they reached further inland. Did they find no one? Or I guess by your logic all those battles with the Nguni people were phantom apparitions. so what is it? was the Voor Trek 1. a glorious uphill battle in Afrikaans history battling, negotiating and settling with Nguni bantu peoples who they meet along the way- or was it 2. a non inhabited land that they settled with NO struggles along the way and they just landed and settled without a hitch negating the (and I personally think and agree with) great achievement of the original Afrikaans settlers?
      You can't have both stories be true at the same time. The honest truth minus the modern Afrikaans propaganda and the equally dishonest Bantu Propaganda is both cultures meet, fought and settled the lands more or less at the same time in history. The Zulus moving south- Voor Trek North. So neither has more of a claim to the land than the other. That doesn't include the Western cape which was uninhabited by Nguni people so Whites have full claim to that legitimately, like wise Limpopo area which the Nguni people has been there ling before the whites.

    There wore actually two Boer wars, in case any one's forgotten. Clearly the Brits don't take losses very well. O so victoriously the red coats wore slain in that first one. So what do you do? You build concentration camps to put the women and children of the enemy in. And call up on the rest of the empire to end the war for once and for all.

      The British learnt an extremely tough lesson as did the Americans in Vietnam and the Russians in Afghanistan Guerrilla warfare can have a huge impact on a modern well disciplined well equipped army. The British army misunderstood the concept when taking on the American colonists during the revolutionary war.

    • @johnwilletts3984
      @johnwilletts3984 Před 4 lety +2

      From U.K. On the American war of independence, never forget that the U.K. was also at war with Spain, France, Holland and India. Then also that the colonists had huge support here in the North of England. My home town of Rotherham built a monument that still dominates the town. A monument to the Boston Tea Party.
      Concentration camps in SA were built at the end of the war. Some Boers refused to stop fighting. They were being fed from boer farms. So the farms were destroyed and the people mostly women and children were placed in camps and fed. They were not meant to be death camps. But that was the effect of concentrating so many people in the South African climate. It was incompetence not a planned action. It caused a major scandal in London. Volunteer Nurses were sent to help, but too late for many. But no augment, all those deaths left a sense of shame here.
