- I toured 14 amazing gardens in two days (half in a tropical storm). It was incredibly inspirational and while I didn't set out to make proper videos in these gardens, I did want to share a few glimpses with you.
Tours start at 3:40

Balm for the soul, this video. Thank you, Erin. ❤
I’m so happy I fell upon this video, I grew up in Kennett Square on a farm that directly bordered Longwood Gardens. I’m 70 now and I was a kid back then believe it or not Longwood was absolutely free. You just walked in and walked around school trips went there almost every year from the local schools and other places and from our farm that was just to the north of Longwood on Valley Road. We could hear the chimes from the chime Tower at 5 o’clockevery night
OMG ! These gardens were amazing...just amazing. I can't even imagine what it was like to be there in person to see and experience all of the beauty, hard work, planning, etc that went into developing the gardens. I think, for me, the hosta hill mass planting was the most memorable. That surprised me too, as I'm not usually a big hosta person. Your thoughts on any plant can be amazing when planted in mass really came true for me when I saw that hill with all of the hostas. I am assuming that most of these families have gardeners employed to keep everything looking good all of the time. I was also surprised how the container gardens looked so lush and full. The whole video was inspiring, that is for sure. I just got out of the hospital from a serious bout of pneumonia and watching this really lifted my spirits. Thank so much for sharing this trip.
Erin, I'm speechless in the beauty and tranquility of the private gardens. There's nothing else like them!! Thank you for sharing. ❤❤I love the shade gardens and the containers.
Never thought I’d put Pennsylvania on my must see list for travel, but as a gardener now it’s on bucket list! Fantastic
This video was a feast for the eyes! Like you said, each garden was unique and interesting...reflecting each gardeners' personalities and creativity. There is so much inspiration there. Gardens with the gorgeous surroundings of nature just bring me peace. Thank you Erin, for sharing these tours. ♥🌻🌲🌼
I have only one word, WOW! The creativity everywhere you went is just amazing!
Containers at Chanticleer were truly amazing.
Surprising reliance on lots of annuals and tropicals
Erin, these gardens are spectacular!!!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to share them with us!!!
Erin,
Love the transition from b&w to color @ the beginning of each section--simple, yet elegant. 😊
Oh Erin, these gardens just make my heart smile! And I am ashamed to admit that I am just 1 1/2 hours away!! Chanticleer here I come. And ever since "reading" his book, The Layered Garden, I constantly try to emulate Mr. Culp's style. This was a gift. Thanks
I really like the fish swimming in the groundcover.
Oh Erin, thank you so much for sharing these gardens with us. Based on your recommendation, my husband and I went to Chanticleer in the spring along with Longwood Gardens. I have to go back to Chanticleer to see the kitchen and cut flower gardens. You must have been buzzing with ideas when you got home from touring these gardens. That's exactly why I love watching your videos and others because they inspire me. Again, thank you so much!
Visit Mt. Cuba Center too on your next trip :-)
Thank you for bringing these gardens to us, Erin. I'll be watching this over and over again. ~ Lisa
Erin, Thanks for taking us along on this tour of beautiful gardens! Love the music, it was so relaxing.
Oh my goodness! I’ll be watching this several times! Yes PA is a beautiful state, with so much history, wonderful antique shops, unbelievable garden, mansions (open to public). I can’t get over all the tropical plants in those private gardens❤ (KH)
My friend in Ontario, makes her 'pilgrimage' to Chanticleer every year and now I see why! Thank you for sharing, Erin.
Thanks so much Erin! Although I live in Oregon now, Chanticleer is 2 hours from my hometown in PA. It is on my list. I so appreciate your narration of all these gardens. I went to my neighborhood garden tour this past June. I totally get what you mean about the personality of each garden. The feeling of all the love and care that went into each garden especially the older ones...20, 30, 40 years with the same gardener . Very special. Full of Soul. I sometimes catch a glimpse of that in my garden of 24 years. I am trying to pay attention more and get quiet for more glimpses. This video reminds me to do just that. Thanks.
Now that is the way to show a garden! Nice and slow so we could actually see all the beauty. Thank you so so much!
Thank you for taking us along! So much inspiration!
Although so vast and opulent as Longwood is, I will never tire of visiting Chanticleer for the ever changing gardens. I was told (I don’t know if its true) that the 5 designers are given free rein to create their visions every year. They certainly do not disappoint.
Thank you for allowing us to share your experience.
This was such a wonderful compilation of the gardens at the Fling. You hit the nail on the head - nothing is more inspirational than visiting gardens where you can immediately see the love that has gone into it, regardless of the size, style...or weather! One thing I can't believe is that I actually missed that pool area at Chanticleer...how on earth did that happen? And that underwater shot was awesome! PS Also loved our little side-adventure in the shops at Peddler's Village - it was a true pleasure spending that bit of time with you.
Wow! What an amazing trip. Thank you for showing us such beautiful spaces.
To this day the best private garden I have seen is nearby on a 50'x150' lot.
It is so well planned and executed that you would not even know you were in a city and you feel like you are in a different world.
There's nothing more to say that hasn't already been said in the comments. But I will tell you that this video was so beautiful and calm that it became so emotional with the combination of your footage accompanied by your choice of music. I know I will replay this many, many times over as it provides tremendous inspiration and also an 'escape' from the world these days. ❤Thank you.
What a great video Erin! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. And this (by the way) is how to include music in a video.subtle nod not distracting. Loved it all.
Wonderful tour Erin. Love the fade in from B/W to color on the intros. Thanks for taking us along!❤☺
Thank you Erin for such an inspiring video! I grew up with Longwood practically in my backyard and visited regularly, but have never been to Chanticleer 🤷♀️
Loved all the many beautiful containers throughout all these places - so incredibly inspiring that my head is spinning with ideas! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing. It was very interesting, and relaxing. I don’t have gardens like that where I live, so it’s a pleasure when someone takes the time to share, and express their pleasure in other people’s beauty.
Absolutely love this! You should come to Buffalo in July. Open Gardens throughout the month. Each weekend municipalities have garden tours. Final weekend in July is the city itself. Amazing-mostly smaller gardens- you can see all month long. Garden clubs from throughout the Country come here. Buffalo in the summer is spectacular. Chanticleer and Longwood are amazing. I need to get back to Philly and see some of the other 30+ public gardens in the area. Thanks for bringing us along ❤️
Just wow, Erin! Those containers were utterly inspiring!!❤
What an amazing and inspiring gift!! Thank you for compiling and sharing these images!
I can’t wait until my garden matures with its larger trees, I love a textured, green garden with only the occasional touch from flowers, as I live in such a hot environment.
So sorry you didn't have more footage of Brandywine Cottage. David Culp is a genius and a wonderful, kind man. His book The Layered Garden is one of my favorites. Northview is great with the English influence and Jenny Rose Carey is another fantastic person. So glad you had fun in the garden capital of the US. Come back to see more!
Thank you Erin for showing us these amazing gardens. I will be sharing your video with many of my gardening friends. I got many great ideas for next year.
Wow, what a great video Erin! I loved that you let the gardens speak for themselves, with just enough VO to guide our attention. I couldn't make the Fling this year but this video went a long way to compensating for missing such a great event. Thank you!
Wow! Wow! Wow! What amazing gardens……all of them! And the containers!!! Thanks so much for sharing! I loved every minute of it!
I just applied for a job at Stoneleigh; who knows, maybe next time you'll find me there!
Hi Erin, Thanks for sharing all the gardens with us, I saw so many great ideas and got some much-needed inspiration watching this video. I appreciate you taking the time to film it.
Thank you for sharing! Chanticleer is definitely on the bucket list now!
I love Coleus, so many textures, leaf shape and deep bright colors...always look great and thrive all Summer long...it is my go to if and when I buy annuals🥰
So glad your back…even in your “absence “ the garden is beautiful!
There is so much to see in public gardens within an hour or two from center city Philadelphia. And so much history, including women in horticulture. The average person can have Erin’s experience (hopefully minus the tropical storm) for not a lot of money.
What a treat ! Thank you Erin. I'm watching in Cheshire, UK , so it's wonderful to see some of your great Americian gardens :) I love a quirky garden :)
Holy Moly, what a feast for the eyes!!!!
I get Chanticleer garden videos through the seasons and lovely to see.
Thank you for sharing! Yes! Chanticleer is THE BEST!! I’ve been to gardens near and far and this is one that I most favor. So nice to see all these gardens!
Thank you Erin. The beauty of the gardens filled my soul! 🌟
Wow!!!! I don’t know what else to say! Thanks for letting us take a peek. That moon gate!!!!!
The colouring of that pool was clever
Beautiful to see Philadelphia gardens featured. As a Philly girl born and raised, I recall visits to Longwood Gardens very fondly and drew much inspiration from that masterpiece, even now living in Las Vegas. Philadelphia is a city filled to the brim with culture and elegance, creativity and yes, even serenity. This video is such a treat! Thank you for sharing. It's been 17 years and I am more homesick than ever now!!!!
This makes me look forward to spring again! Thanks you for taking us along.
Fun.
Sweet inspirations
&
oh so delightful..........

Erin, these gardens are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Wish I lived near you so I could help you. All the best for a speedy recovery and we’ll be here waiting for you xxx.
Erin!
Thanks for this feast for the eyes.
I like the variegated Japanese forest grass. Nice mass planting
I'm gunna have to copy that Longwood container garden!
The purple & lime one.
With the big giant tall palm or whatever that is.
Oh My Gosh it's DIVINE!!
And I already have half the plants, so yeah, I'm definitely copying that for next year!!
Me too! I took a screen shot!

Ha!
SO DID I !!!
I can't stop staring at the colors!
Loved the kiss from the fish
Thank you! We have been gardening in a less scuptured style but others in our area have almost cookie cutter styles. It is refreshing to see what we are attempting on a much larger scale. I wonder how many of the private gardens you toured bring in outside help. I found much encouragement and inspiration so thank you!
Fantastic video - thank you so much for taking your precious garden viewing time to share!
Thanks so much for sharing that, Erin! 🧡
Erin, really enjoyed your garden visits. You have been very creative in putting this video together. Just watched a second time - so much to take in. Spectacular gardens. Thanks
Fabulous gardens, and especially admire all the amazing containers. Thanks for sharing.
Driving to dc next weekend. Train to nyc. I was going to stop in Philly and drive to chanticleer but decided I’ll go next spring. I drooled over my Chanticleer book for three years now.
Erin - thank you SO much for this. I was scheduled to attend this year's Fling and had been looking forward to touring these gardens in my own region. An emergency intervened but through your video I feel like I was there! Really appreciate this! Thank you!
I’m sorry you couldn’t be there! Glad you got a glimpse here.
WOW what an amazing few days you have. Thank you for sharing.
The hillside of hostas was awesome! Loved this video.
Wow, what a treat for you! 14 gardens. Thank you for sharing. I was excited to see a plant Painted Palette Persicaria) someone gave me this year at Chanticleer-now I know it's great one! :) So many wonderful ideas at these gardens.
The best video excellent gardening and so many different ways of gardening oh I loved it thank you 🙌🥰🧤👒💐🪴 Karen from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you, Erin, your garden tours and color commentary are soooo appreciated!
Thank you for sharing your Journey. It was delightful.
Food for the soul, thank you 🥰
What can I say except absolutely beautiful gardens! Thanks for sharing. I shared this with my gardening buddy💕
Chanticleer is my favorite also. I live in the area so it’s awesome to take it all in.
Soo many gardens to see now. I hadn't heard of Chanticleer! They are within 1-2 hrs of me. Road trips here I come!
The Garden Conservancy used to host many “open” private gardens here in Chicagoland. We visited many incredible gardens in the past. Sadly, those days seem to be over.
so beautiful, thank you for sharing with us! a friend who is a garden designer has grown a curly willow in a pot for many years, and I have always wanted to copy her. need to put it on the list!
Inspiring! How many public gardens could one see in a long weekend? And which ones would you prioritize? Thank you for taking us along!
Absolutely gorgeous.
What a treat! Thank you!
Great tour Erin, like a walk down memory lane! Although there were a few shots I didn't even recognize from some of these gardens 😂. So easy to miss things! Thanks for sharing, it was great to meet you in person! -Amy
