Welcome to another Athens walking tour 4k. This evening walk in Athens begins in Thissio, onto Monastiraki Square, along the busiest shopping street in Athens, Ermou Street, and ends at Syntagma Square.
Hello and welcome to my channel: Go Explore Greece. My name is Ian. One of the best free things to do in Athens is to just walk through central Athens. It's not only a great way to learn about history, but a fantastic opportunity to learn about ancient history, especially ancient Greece.

We begin in Thissio, one of my favourite areas, a mix of the old and new, brimming with history and life. The first top is Thissio Metro Station, the oldest Metro station in Athens.
Next, it's the Statue of Theseus, a tribute to the legendary hero and supposed founder of Athens, whose tales of valour and cunning weave through the fabric of Greek mythology.
Turning onto the oldest street in Athens, Adrianou Street, we're immediately enveloped in the lively atmosphere that defines Athens, with the sights and smells of the best places to eat and drink and the murmur of conversation filling the air.
We stop to view the Temple of Hephaestus, built around 450 BC and the best-preserved temple in the world.
Of course, we can't miss out on viewing the Acropolis of Athens, a symbol of the city's enduring spirit and architectural ingenuity.
Further along, the Stoa of Attalos in the Ancient Agora of Athens, rebuilt in the 1950s to mirror the original structure.
Onwards to Hadrian's Library, established by Roman Emperor Hadrian in 132 AD as a centre for learning and culture.
Entering Monastiraki Square, the heart of Athens beats around us, with the Monastiraki Metro Station bustling with life beside the serene Church of Pantanassa.
Leaving the square, the irresistible aromas of Bairaktaris Central and O Thanasis beckon, the two best places to eat Souvlaki. These eateries, steeped in culinary tradition, offer a taste of Greece that is as authentic as it is delicious.
The journey continues to the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, built in the 11th century and slap bang in the middle of Ermou Street, the busiest shopping street in Athens.
A stone's throw away, one of the best four-star hotels in Athens is the Electra Hotel Athens which signifies modern luxury. At the same time, the nearby Athens Happy Train offers a whimsical tour of the city's highlights, perfect for all ages.
Crossing into Syntagma Square, we're greeted by the grandeur of the NJV Athens Plaza, King George Hotel, and the Hotel Grande Bretagne. These five-star luxury hotels are landmarks, each with its own history and charm, epitomising Athens's luxury and legacy.
