That little boiler and your marine engine would be perfect for a little 12' wooden boat. Another amazing find, I never would have guessed there was still so much old iron in existence.
A boiler transformed! Paint, new valves, plumbed up.... She's a beauty! Steam or petrol... I'll watch 'em all. I think that goes for all of us, reading the comments. Thanks for your channel. It's a favorite, for sure!
You are a one man rescue machine. It's great to see something that looks in fairly good nick, even if there are some important bits missing, you seem to be able to make anything you need. Greetings from Scotland and take care of your health. You could make a video of painting an outside toilet door and most of us would watch it because all your videos are interesting and educational. Keep them coming. 👍🏻
Another job , well done ! That little boiler turned out nice enough . Sure do hope you can find some of the missing parts to that Frink , not that it matters much , as you can figure it out . But it is a lot less work when you don't have to make up pieces for the ones missing . Keep them coming , as you can . We all know you are a very busy man . God bless you & yours , my friend !
This channel has been great for many years now. Thank you Sir for all the things you have shown us over the years. The steam engines have made the journey even greater. Best wishes.
Glad you were able to purchase it before it went away for good. Glad to see your steam videos because they are educational as well as cool to watch. Steam engines got this country started on its way to the powerhouse it is today. They ran everything with steam before electricity. I hope you find some of the parts you need there and looking forward to the moving video.
Don't ever quit. I've been working in auto salvage for years. Your videos are like shop class for the day. Been watching now for many years, pray for many more for all of us. May God bless you and family.
You could do wood/bio.coal gasification . You could use your wood and not have the tar and garbage build up in your boiler. If anyone can do it you are the guy. would make some great videos. It would help a lot of us, because you would do it with stuff that is available, without having to go buy everything.
Some time back you had mentioned making a portable steam engine and boiler setup that could be used for mobile demonstrations. This little boiler would be the perfect boiler to use for that. It cleaned up nicely and really looks good. Keep up the good work and take care of yourself.
That is a nice little boiler! Question: wouldn't it be better to put a discharge line on the relief valve pointed towards the ground,(or straight up into a stack) so no one gets burned if it pops suddenly?
Wood gasification for boiler heat! Yes! A whole new set of hardware/iron to educate yourself AND us! Weston Farmer wrote a book "From my old Boat Shop" and pages 176-198 have quite a bit of detail on "Producer Gas", and he writes in an entertaining way. The book is still in print as far as I know. Another guy, Bill Durham wrote "Steamboats and Modern Steam Launches"... he is entertaining as well, but not very much on producer gas, mostly steam. Both of these guys had their writing heyday in, say, 1925 - 1965, so their outlooks are definitely "old school".
In my propane fired loco I run a pretty high supply pressure of 10-15 psi into a needle valve supplying the manifold. I usually run 2 psi at the manifold with 5 psi being the "working real hard" pressure. You have to have a good draft for anything more than BBQ pressures and in operation I'm always running the blower.
Love that little steam engine, back where I used to live there was a manufacturing company called Frick Gallagher that made pallet racks as well as a thing called a Rotabin that was used in hardware stores for bolt storage,it went out of business a few years before I moved here and the buildings were razed.
Two videos in 2 days !! Moving that big engine is going to be tough but you make it look easy! You are a genius the way you repair them and get them running. Wish you could build us a hot tub time machine and take us all back to to 1890's ! LOL Cant wait for the next video !
Been watching you for years always enjoy your vidios no matter what they are.i am always amazed at the knowledge you have and the talent thank you for what you do.20 years ago there was a huge engine on a low boy trailer in Bastrop tx sat there for years but unknown what happened with it.
The little boiler might benefit from a vaporizing oil pot burner. Waste oil could be used and might be cost effective over propane. I made one years ago for a model copper boiler that worked too and damaged it by over heating.
That's a beautiful boiler!!! I should be amazed, but it's normal for you to do an excellent job. EVERY time I watch one of your videos, I wind up smiling like a dog eatin' bees. It might be as much fun for me as it is for you. Cheers, man
Boiler looks good - put it on a big o' pontoon boat? (maybe with a wooden Popeye the Sailor steering wheel up front & center)...the way that flywheel shaft tapered down at the outer pillow block bearing was what caught my eye on that Frick engine
When Horse Power is determined, Does the piston size or crankshaft offset give the numbers? Boiler shure is a looker. Thanks and lots of suspense watching that valve.
He is definitely a man on a mission! I've literally lost count of his steam engines and related parts. It's an impressive collection for sure that I imagine must have been quite expensive to put together.
Excellent video Johnathan W :) also that Natural gas or Propane fuel work nice on that boiler and plus run small engine too ! Also another steam engine found and nice shape in too looking forward more videos on it plus getting even up running too!
Good job with this refurbish and testing on the boiler. Nice little engine still works. Yea, I hate to buy LPG for my genset - free gas to run it could come from making your septic system give you methane. Oh good, saving another steam engine.
jonathan, could you do a walkthrough of your steam engines so we can see the whole setup? you've put so much work into it id like to see it from a distance to get a good view of it!
I'm sure you'll find a good home for that boiler, as this video shows it's in good shape and ready to run. But I think it's already in good hands, just like that big Frick will be. I started with your hot rod builds, but you just got better with the steam engine saves in my opinion. It's all good.👍
Hi, Jonathan, That little bitty Steam Engine is sure starting to look pretty and you got her running smooth as can be for not being mounted to any thing substantial. I keep getting the feeling she should be put to use in a small Steam Launch like The African Queen from the movie of the same name. While I know this little beauty is a stationary engine and not a marine unit, the thought keeps running through my mind. God Bless and stay safe, and Meow to Ninja Catscan.💯💥🔥
I did ten minutes of research online and found out that Frick began making Corliss engines in 1883 and made their last one in 1913. They supplied the Corliss engines in 40 to 2000HP. Frick was acquired by York refrigeration in 1977 and they have been in turn acquired by Johnson Controls. The Waynesboro, PA plant makes industrial refrigeration equipment today.
THANKS fer postin lad !! I LOVE IT EH !! Yer firin it up to check the release. Yanno it's gonna pop but when it do, ya leave a skid mark in yer shorts EH !! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA Cain't wait fer yer NEXT vid eh !! A fact of gettin old is slowin down a bit whether er not we wanna. WAVIN a hand EH !!
Hey Jonathan and hey to NaNa!!! Good to hear from you!!! I hope you and your Family are able to keep warm on this Halloween Day!!! That Pressure Relief Valve probably just needed to be "Exercised" there at the beginning...... Thank You Sir for the Video!!! Be well and Happy Halloween to You, Yours and NaNa!!!! Stay Safe Brother!!!!!
That boiler looks good and works good. That little steamer you were running ticks away like a Swiss watch. I hope you did or will tear the place apart when you go to bring home the Frick. If you found even 1 more piece, you’d be time and money ahead. Chances are good that if you found 1 piece, you’d find more stashed in the same place. Good luck with all of that. Bye! 🥸👍👀🔧🔨✅❗️
Somebody building a small steam launch will buy that in a second. There is a local club with steam boats that run on the lake here a couple times a year. One guy gave me a ride around the lake when I went to watch. It was way cool chugging along on the lake under steam power.
I just want to say what I’ve said before, a few times. Every video I learn something. No matter what era machinery or what lost skill or current trade for that matter is being recorded. 😎👍🍻
Your collection is growing...groaning flatbed ahoy..! Git yer shovel, pad and pipes ready...setting these paperweights is fussy, but youre level headed ENUFF...LOL CARRY ON
man I used to have a 00 frick sawmill and a frick edger i would love to see belted up to this beast, it would be a matched set! a little over kill but what the hell!
Possibly, the unit was powered by "town gas" Coal gas manufactured in coal gasification plants and plumbed about the town. Not propane, and not natural gas. These MGP plants were in every town/ city large and small up until the 1960's.
The one man steam engine saver.
I like the old steam engines and the car videos. Keep up the good work rescuing all the old iron!
Thank you for preserving the past. And posting it to share your knowledge ))
That little boiler and your marine engine would be perfect for a little 12' wooden boat. Another amazing find, I never would have guessed there was still so much old iron in existence.

Steam or petrol... I'll watch 'em all.
I think that goes for all of us, reading the comments.
Thanks for your channel. It's a favorite, for sure!
It's Great you save these, once they are gone so is our history!
You're really building up a nice museum of steam engines and boilers, it would be nice to come see it some day.
Always makes me smile when one of them engines start up. Thanks for the video!
I watch everything video you put up! And I enjoy everything you do, especially for our American history and culture!
Hey Jonathan it's a little boiler is pretty cool well you have a good day my friend
Another job , well done ! That little boiler turned out nice enough . Sure do hope you can find some of the missing parts to that Frink , not that it matters much , as you can figure it out . Jonathan there's nothing wrong with the quality of your videos we enjoy each and every one of them keep up the awesome work your a talented man
Glad you were able to purchase it before it went away for good. Glad to see your steam videos because they are educational as well as cool to watch. Been watching now for many years, pray for many more for all of us. May God bless you and family.
That little tiny running engine is as cute as it could be.
I like your vids Johnathon. Stay safe.😊
You could do wood/bio.coal gasification . You could use your wood and not have the tar and garbage build up in your boiler. If anyone can do it you are the guy. would make some great videos. Saving them one at a time, good job.
Just found your channel. Like the car stuff.
LOVE the steam!!!!
The set up is Beautiful and look at the little engine that could😊
looks good love ya saving and rebuilding the past
Some time back you had mentioned making a portable steam engine and boiler setup that could be used for mobile demonstrations. This little boiler would be the perfect boiler to use for that. It cleaned up nicely and really looks good. Keep up the good work and take care of yourself.
From a locomotive steam engineer, the first pop on a safety is always late. They tend to drop more pressure at first, then settle in after that.
That is a nice little boiler! Question: wouldn't it be better to put a discharge line on the relief valve pointed towards the ground,(or straight up into a stack) so no one gets burned if it pops suddenly?
Glad your grabbing this old stuff and getting it before it trash and rebuild it and let people seeing how things done in the pass.
I love the steam engine videos. Also all the cars and cool stuff you have. ❤ Tow trucks ect. !!😊
If you made nothing but steam engine videos I would be happy with that. The new boiler looks great!!
It all works so well. Really cool to see. Thanks Jonathan 👍🇺🇸
What's not to love, all of your videos are educational as well as informative, thank you for all you do, and keep them coming🛠
A boiler small enough to fit on a pontoon boat, heh heh! And there was bound to be a clearer to get at engine to rescue one day(*knocks wood)!
How could any Gearhead not love steam engine videos 🤷♂️ keep doing what you do brother

Nice engine,,we want to see a hr. Long video of you loading that thing. Wish i was there to help. Your saving history
Always enjoy the steam videos - have learned a lot about the details of operating steam power! Keep up the preservation and good work!
Afternoon Jonathan! Another awesome video! Thanks for sharing! BE SAFE!
Love that little steam engine, back where I used to live there was a manufacturing company called Frick Gallagher that made pallet racks as well as a thing called a Rotabin that was used in hardware stores for bolt storage,it went out of business a few years before I moved here and the buildings were razed.
I enjoy your videos ,can't believe how many steam engines you have, but wait there's more.
That Frick engine barely needs paint.....if at all.... nice save!
Neat little boiler.
your doing something that Coldwar motors can't do, you keep doing it ,love the vids
Violent not quite as violent as 600lb. Steam. Thanks for saving it and for the video. 👍
Two videos in 2 days !! Moving that big engine is going to be tough but you make it look easy! You are a genius the way you repair them and get them running. Wish you could build us a hot tub time machine and take us all back to to 1890's ! LOL Cant wait for the next video !
Nice work on the boiler Jonathan and that a Awesome other engine
Been watching you for years always enjoy your vidios no matter what they are.i am always amazed at the knowledge you have and the talent thank you for what you do.20 years ago there was a huge engine on a low boy trailer in Bastrop tx sat there for years but unknown what happened with it.
I just love your steam collection. Great job with the boiler save. I haven’t followed your channel for a while, but just enjoy your content.
Thanks
Love the little engine you piped up to the boiler!
She's a keeper, unique.
That boiler Looks Fantastic..
The little boiler might benefit from a vaporizing oil pot burner. Waste oil could be used and might be cost effective over propane. I made one years ago for a model copper boiler that worked too and damaged it by over heating.

Thanks and lots of suspense watching that valve.
I think he’s getting addicted to the Bates engines.😏
He is definitely a man on a mission! I've literally lost count of his steam engines and related parts. It's an impressive collection for sure that I imagine must have been quite expensive to put together.
😳😳 what a difference from what you started with.👍 looks sharp 👏👏
Can you adapt it to wood some how, instead of propane
Excellent video Johnathan W :) also that Natural gas or Propane fuel work nice on that boiler and plus run small engine too ! Also another steam engine found and nice shape in too looking forward more videos on it plus getting even up running too!
I dig the steam engine stuff, keep goin! Natural gas would be better. "Softer" flame, and way cheaper. Dont use hose. Great vid,,,,Izzy,,,,
The bluer the better for the flame
That boiler cleaned up nice
I love too watch all the videos doesn't matter what it is
fantastic work
How in the world do you know all these things! 😮 Entertaining!
G'morning Jonathan! Lots of Poison Ivy vines on that Frick Engine, sadly a lot of parts are missing..
Not a problem!
One benefit of gas fire is you can cut the fire off somewhat faster than a wood fired. Enjoyed the video!
That's a sweet little boiler. Nice job on fixing it up. Would make a good boiler for someone that's just getting into steam stuff.
Always interesting! Hope you video loading the Frick..that looks HEAVY!!
Very cool ! I love the steam videos myself 👍👍
Thanks for sharing 👍
Good job with this refurbish and testing on the boiler. Nice little engine still works. Yea, I hate to buy LPG for my genset - free gas to run it could come from making your septic system give you methane. Oh good, saving another steam engine.
Awesome always cool stuff always 😎
Amazing machinery.
jonathan, could you do a walkthrough of your steam engines so we can see the whole setup? you've put so much work into it id like to see it from a distance to get a good view of it!
Sir, how about using selfmade wood gas instead of propane? Best regards, luck and health in particular.
Nice boiler, keep it at least for conversation piece
Nice paint job with the brass fittings. That boiler was built the year I was born... What would that small engine normally power at 2.5 horse power?
That’s a really cool setup
I myself I enjoy your steam videos but also enjoy your other stuff you work on also.
Enjoy spending time with you.
I'm sure you'll find a good home for that boiler, as this video shows it's in good shape and ready to run. But I think it's already in good hands, just like that big Frick will be. I started with your hot rod builds, but you just got better with the steam engine saves in my opinion. It's all good.👍

I think you have that gas burner set up pretty good. The flame looks just like the burners on my propane stove in my house.
Should have ae Karnes over. Good Job !
Great rescue
Jonathan , you must of been a locomotive Engineer in your previous life ! Good on you ole mate🤙🤙👍
Cool
Hey Jonathan and hey to NaNa!!! Good to hear from you!!! I hope you and your Family are able to keep warm on this Halloween Day!!! That Pressure Relief Valve probably just needed to be "Exercised" there at the beginning...... Thank You Sir for the Video!!! Be well and Happy Halloween to You, Yours and NaNa!!!! The steam videos are just as good as the car videos.
