    Cinematics / PC Hood is great. It took about a month for them to prepare but they literally shipped it on Friday 4/10 and it was on my porch Monday 4/13! They were set to arrive on Friday 4/17 but there were no hold ups in customs from Hong Kong or New York. So they made their way to me in Baltimore, Maryland in no time. I will say, these lenses are gigantic. Seeing on the web is one thing, but holding them is another, especially the 50-100. I love these bad boys and thanks Epic Light Media for making this video and getting me 15% off. Happy shooting everyone!

    Hmmm well this “review” started well but there was literally no actual review of the lenses. Shaking vid of the x-rite board for 20-30 seconds that appears to be out of focus. Nothing close up showing the lenses themselves or a static test of a focus chart. You are good behind the camera and hopefully you can do a 2nd review with more detail. I'm confused why you shot this vid on the iphone instead of shooting on the actual lens itself. People here don't care about what the iphone looks like - they want to see the lens. Kketansa Art remember they are rehoused Sigma Art Photo lenses. They aren’t charging the glass inside. They are designed to fit a 114mm front face because that’s a standard size to fit a matte box. Also if the front glass element was like 114mm that would be an insanely expensive lens.

    Just ran into your video here. Not sure if anyone else has asked, but things I am thinking of from photo lenses ... is there any focus breathing, does the back focus change from wide to zoom, is there a color shift between the wide angle lens and the longer zoom lens, did they measure the side to F or T stop? Just things I wouldn't mind knowing. It's a neat concept, but if it has the usual issues of photo lenses as oppose to true cine lenses. Then it's no different to me as putting on gears on a photo lens.

    • @EpicLightMedia
      @EpicLightMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes there is focus breathing, the lenses are parfocal though. There is no color shift between the two lenses, they are T stops. The biggest reason we bought them was for the hard stops and the de-clicked aperture.

      @EpicLightMedia  Před 4 lety +1

    • @EpicLightMedia
      @EpicLightMedia  Před 4 lety

      Since the housing is much wider than the original lens the throw is larger than most photo lenses. I don’t think they did any engineering though to make it wider. Real cine lenses have very high quality optics. You can modify it as much as you want, but if the glass is cheap, all you get is lens that looks like cine, but really not. The cheapest high quality from the top of my head is Canon CN-E line. There's a reason why pro cine lenses are $30-50K, you can actually see the way sharper image.

    • @MatthewKimble
      @MatthewKimble Před 4 lety

      Well...it depends. Modern still photography lenses are designed more and more to have a freakishly sharp image (we need that clarity), which is why many indie/budget filmmakers have turned back to vintage lenses and less sharp rehoused stills lenses like this. These lenses tend to have imperfections that we bill as "character". Meaning that the bokeh can look different from lens to lens, or that CA or the flare might lend itself better for the visual subject material. Plus, those high end cine lenses are unobtainable for almost everyone outside of renting. Like you, I think the term 'cine' is a buzzword and a bit of a misnomer, it's all subjective.

    • @LordArioh
      @LordArioh Před 4 lety +1

      @@MatthewKimble I had my hands on EF 50mm f1.0, that's a lens with the character. And compared 50 f1.2 EF and CN-E, the last one is sharper. For high end you need kinda serious purpose to rent. Otherwise it doesn't matter, photo lens with better or same performance will be cheaper than 'cine' alternative.

    I’d be cautious in recommending these. The ones I tested had rather inaccurate distance markings, which is one of the major benefits of going to a cinema lens in the first place. You can’t pull focus accurately without accurate marks so I’m failing to see the benefit of these over the much lighter weight photo versions modded with cheap lens gears. On a real rehousing of these like the GL Optics or sigma’s own cine prime, you get perfect marks.

      One con is that the company that mods the lenses is kind of random and is based in china... so I’m not sure how long these lenses will last before falling apart. That being said, after using these non-stop for months they are still as good as the day they arrived... so, so far so good. The glass and image is amazing and I used the photo versions of the lenses for years before buying the cine versions. The lenses are heavy... which can be a good or bad thing depending on your rig. I like the weight though. Anyway... I still like the lenses

    Thanks for sharing the video and the discovery. What is the degree of focus throw?... could you do it manually by hand or would most likely need a follow focus? Some future tests would be great if you've got the time to share. Thanks!

    I kind of wish they made a gear transfer inbetween for the iris to give you more control. I do enjoy the hard focus stops though. But still, photo quality lenses in a cinema rehousing for this much is not my boat floater.

    What a great find. Thanks so much. I have the BMPCC4K with a Metabones EF to MFT mount. I have the Sigma 18-35mm f1.4 EF mount lens. It's pretty sweet. But, I am looking for more cine quality lenses. And, thanks to you, I think I found that source. Cheers.

    • @EpicLightMedia
      @EpicLightMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      I actually really like the 4K metabones combo because you get an extra stop of light. Like we use a canon 24-105 f4 IS on the pocket sometimes and we get an f2.8 on it with the metabones

    • @AllThingsFilm1
      @AllThingsFilm1 Před 4 lety

      @@EpicLightMedia Yep. Because of that extra stop of light, I am grateful I invested in the Metabones. Right now, I'm looking for a good macro lens with an EF mount.

    There are companies that mod the sigma photo lenses into cines for like 1/3 the price of these. I have a full frame sony though, so I can't use them. Maybe once I upgrade to a BMPCC 6k...

    I totally get wanting to re-house photography lenses for cinema. But... looks like Sigma has their own new line of cinema zooms for EF, PL, and E mounts. $4k each. Sadly, I cannot afford either of these options but one can dream...

  • @atdavidlee
    @atdavidlee Před 4 lety

    Fascinating! Have you noticed any difference between the rehoused versions and the cine versions from sigma? I know the cine versions are essentially the same as the photo versions (optics wise with better coating) but the price is like half!!!

    • @EpicLightMedia
      @EpicLightMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      I used the sigma cine versions for a commercial years ago and that’s what made me buy the photo versions and now I have these new rehoused kind. Optically I can’t tell a difference between any of them. Yesterday by business partner visited Sigma headquarters and they told him directly that the photo and cine version use the same glass. I’m not an expert on lenses, however, so someone else might be able to see differences that I can not.

    • @atdavidlee
      @atdavidlee Před 4 lety

      @@EpicLightMedia 100%! I own the photo version and have used the cine versions but when I was told that optically they're near identical just in a cine housed format I couldn't justify paying the extra $$$ for the same optics. I'm definitely looking at CT Pro for some one off lenses as these prices are incredible!
