Circa 1992, Hitchens faxed his copy through
As "Regards Columbus Day"
And if you'll permit me the conceit of a posthumous critique
I'll paraphrase:
"My colorful, exotic friend, Respectable, well spoken
Unlike the rest of them
As you know I'm color-blind and you're a credit to your kind
This silly talk of resurgence, ceremony, communion with
An unconquered natural world
Tell me, where is your gratitude for all we've done for you?
This paradise. Eden. Empire. Kingdom
This boundless epoch we've bestowed
Upon your savage, empty lands
Well of course mistakes were made
But as far as human progress goes
Welcome to a slightly higher plane
Of innovation and opportunity
For your trampled communities
The treaties that we broke
The lands that we filched
The settlements put to the torch
The children we abused
All for your own good of course
It just happens to to be the way history has been made
Just don't play with a toy gun or change lanes without signalling
Don't comply, don't resist, 'cause it don't make no difference
Comply? Resist? No difference
Resist? Comply? You die
The funny names you give your kids
The silly ways you do your hair
The jungle music that you blare
We snicker and we sneer
For they do not revere
The incessant gadgetry we incessantly deploy
To incessantly extract and incessantly destroy
You don't worship us
Oh, why don't you worship us?
Resist? Comply? You die"
So this song's basis is this article: drive.google.com/file/d/0B_X_Xetlqv2BN2xiaVF0YXduc2c/view which of course was distilled down by liberals as "Hitchens celebrates mass genocide of Native Americans" when it's in fact completely not about that. I feel like Hannah also didn't get it.
now you muthafuckers got me reading that article and researching shit!!! fucking time! I don't have time to do everything I need to do!!!
Thx mate !
Hitchens was a prick
gocsa
Yeah, no. Hitchens was a prick, and his article was in fact a celebration of the genocide of the Native American.
I've been around a long time. This whole album is one of the greatest things I've ever heard. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that this band has been so consistently great that they may be unassailably the greatest punk rock band of all time.
I started listening to Propagandhi in 1993 when I was a piss ignorant 13 year old and damn did they wake me up. Love this band above all others. My journey to punk rock started with this dude who rode my bus to school in Minnesota just gave me a cassete tape that had Sloppy Seconds and Propagandhi. I was hooked. My mom and step dad took me to a best buy in Duluth they were looking for some bullsh_t new age jazz fusion and I went looking for punk. I found Propagandhi how to clean everything album. Now anyone that knows jack sh_t knows Propagandhi would not allow bar codes on their album but fu_king best buy wraped it in celophaine and slapped a bar code on it so I stole it. Fu_k best buy. Rocked out to them ever since
Same brother!!!!!
This is the best song I have heard in at least a decade.
I found PROPAGANDHI by seeing a rollercoaster in the water
Best band ever... ❤️💪🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻
Brutal!! Claro que si!! que te encuentro por el internet!!! XD
whole album fukin amazing best band ever period
How ironic you actually didn't use period in this statement.
The best thing is them getting better and better every release, fucking brilliant stuff, never a disappointment.
absolute masterpiece. their finest work to date. fan of 21 years here. I know every inch of Prop's work. This song is fucking boss. going to see them live ( again ) in about 6 hours or so
I'm fairly new to Propagandhi myself, have listened to HTCE and Less Talk, More Rock a fair bit at this point, and am working my way through the rest of their discography. Really enjoying it all so far, and super excited to be seeing them in Tampa come September :D
@@dougholtz1334 If that's what you got from this song you aren't listening. Stop playing air guitar and think.
@@zeroethsort1071 cheers man, glad you found a diamond in the rough.
It's one of my favorites too. An absolute banger.
Fuck yes
1:40 these classic propaghandhi riffs
I've listened to this album likely over 100 times, but I keep coming back to this song. Every time I come back, it gives me goosebumps and brings me to literal tears. Along with Lower Order. Propagandhi is the most underrated band in rock history, and every album gets better.
Zoochosis gets me every time.
It's been 5 years and I've only listened to this album like 3 times, and I've been underwhelmed every time. Maybe it's just me, or maybe it's the depression. No clue. Gonna give it another listen because I love this band.
@@Uhtceare_tidee This song in particular is top tier Propagandhi
The initial riffs in the verse are dizzying and unnerving, in line with the disturbed and disturbing tone of the whole piece. I get a Locrian-mode feel, a flat fifth. Pure art.
Propagandhi is making things better since today's empire, tomorrow ashes. This band's really stuntin !
I think this album has the best lyrics since "Less Talk", but "Supporting Caste" is amazing both lyrically and instrumentally. I love all of this fucking band's albums.
June 2020 in Minneapolis, more real than ever. Rest in power George Floyd.
Ps come play First Avenue 🙏🏻
+
LOL
Masterpiece is the correct word. Best punk rock production I have ever heard.
Great riff ! Very good drummer. Base is loud . Fantastic lyrics ! Perfect mix . Propagandi pure 👌
The drummer's brother is also a masterful pianist and a University professor of music in the USA.
Thanks for the information. What a remarkable character is this Jord. 👌
They keep getting better!
love the bassline during the verse.. and the rest of the song of course
Love this band
This riffs on this one coming from Chris's Axe is harder than Kreator!!
This album feels right
Awesome!!
You guys are my biggest role models
Thanks Chris, I know you're Canadian, and hopefully no matter how much you hold being the "imperialistic, consumerist, jerk-off, ignorant, gun-loving American" that I obviously am lol, but I hope you realize sooner than later (esp after THIS MANY ALBUMS!!) that you are so gifted. THE ONLY KNOWN BAND ON THE EARTH THAT I CAN LITERALLY GET AN AGREEMENT FROM ANYONE I ASK WHEN I SAY "WHO'S BETTER SOUND-WISE AND VOCALLY ETC? NOFX OR PROP?" ....the answer is the same everytime. AND THEY HAVE SINGLES/HITS!! Admit it thats sayin' somthing.
they wouldnt hate you
great sound!
amazing!!!
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So good!!!
This has a criminally underrated amount of views.
Thank you!
I think this is the best song........ (universally and atemporally speaking)
I love this
Wow great stuff
I didnt think it was possible to make me as happy as I was the first time I listened to Night Letters
fuck, this song hit harder than ever nowadays
I didn't think it could get better than Supporting Caste... I take it back.
supporting caste is still better imo.
MUITO BOM. ABRAÇO.
My colorful, exotic friend, Respectable, well spoken.
cool ass album !!!!!!
top!
What I don't get is why do people feel they have to disagree with the lyrics of the song here? Why would you listen to Propagandhi if you didn't like their message? Maybe that's just me, but I listen to music to connect with it on a deeper level. These guys are a fucking amazing band and amazing people! That's what I love about them! As for the douche bags bitching about their politics, maybe go find some right-wing Capitalist music to listen to? Leave the Anarcho-Socialist music for those of us who appreciate it.
I hope they do a 2nd show in Vancouver. The Rickshaw's sold out and it's still over 2 months away. Either something fishy is going down (a wack site bought the tickets to resale at a higher price), or Propagandhi fans just ain't like regular procrastinating punk fans.
❤
at "has. been. made." i wonder how chris got that vocal effect, that is neat-o!
Fucking Epic Guitargasm at 2:00
GOAT
F yes.
This song fucking rocks so hard.
Fuckin love this album and haven’t listened to 10 %
My favourite from the album. Wish Cristopher was still alive to be able to respond to the message carried by the lyrics. It would surely make for an interesting debate. I guess we'll never know.
Oh man that would be so awesome :(
Lol, preferrably both :D
Lol, as a Spaniard I never thought of Colombus as "Christopher". We call him Cristóbal Colón here. But I suppose two resurrections would be better than one :)
wacha90 you know what he'd say ? "Why are you asking me about these savages?"
You know why he'd say that ?
Cos it happened 500 fucking years ago and has a different context to now
wacha90
I'd prefer he stay dead, thanks.
Makes me wanna party fuckin hard.
Hell yeah!!
Fuck yea!!!
Fuckin wow.
Interesting
The lyrics are on point with the band performing them but it seems the music has turned slower and produced all in all its a good song and good album
Have you listened beyond the intro? How is this song anything but fast?
Mount Average
Yeah, seriously. If this is slow, the fuck is fast?
You must listen to Death Metal often if you think this is slow
like
not typically a big fan of this band but this song is fuckign sick
song dedicated to does who did something for the punkrock hardcore comunity but did not gave any respect besides throwing money at them
R.I.P. Hitchens, this song is pretty badass though.
Wheres your gratitude? Don't you worship us?
Referring to the legend that is Christopher Hitchens makes this song an automatic win!
I guess. It's not exactly a compliment to Hitchens.
fuck Hitchens. He won’t be missed lol
This song should have been titled "Extreme White Guilt". I never really cared for Propagandhi's message. But they write such good songs I can't help loving them.
...the message is pretty integral, they ain't Rise Against
That's been pretty obvious with Propagandhi right from the beginning. I still don't have to agree with it though. I get it though that punk's always been leaning to the far left, and I can enjoy all kinds of punk bands that have a message I don't agree with. Especially the amazingly talented Propagandhi.
love props message. its nice to hear some positive things on native americans. makes me proud. i am native by the way. lets keep it positive people
In this particular case, the song we are listening to, it is not far-left in itself to recognise history as it is, rather how it was written by its "winners."
it's about self serving white delusion, I don't really get the guilt part. If it offends you, maybe consider it's about you.
I love Propagandhi, but I'm having a difficult time digesting this album. I don't like it. I was hoping that Todd Serious tribute "I Am A Rifle" song was a sneak peak of a return to a more face-melting, blistering street-punk sound, but every new release gets slower and more technical. I expected rage and defiance in this political climate, and instead I got punk rock Rush. These guys have written some of the most ferocious, intelligent songs every screamed into a microphone (Potemkin City Limits!), but this release falls short. Just my two cents. Still absolutely love these guys, and will buy the album just out of principal.
"Punk rock Rush" is a huge compliment.
Yeah, that's kind of the goal of this band, is it not?
@@smlinarcik You must be new here
Sadly the faster beat killed it.
MrMotherfuck123 that's the best part bro
The exact opposite is true. This thing is a RIPPER and the riffs broke my neck
This album is good. But it is slow, slightly overproduced, and way too technical. This is what you get when punks learn how to play their instruments. I'll go listen to Supporting caste instead - one more time.
It's no more technical than usual and the technicalities are done to totally enhance their sound rather than just show off with.
punk-hardcore.info I agree but it's still good hope they come back to VA Beach
This album's very close to Supporting Caste in quality - in my opinion. There are very few punk bands like Propagandhi but there are literally hundreds like the ones you prefer...so yeah, I'm glad they're technical and I hope they will stay this way.
This is the best Propagandhi album
I think you meant punk-hardcore.opinion..... also, no one cares
SJW's favorite song.
Ya, I love it!
SJW soyboy cuck here to confirm this is one of my favorite Propagandhi songs.
Ok Ben Shapiro humping MAGAot
What is this political garbage?
Yes, because this is the first political song propagandhi ever wrote...
go to listen to sum 41 fucking douche bag
This is a song by the band Propagandhi who have been very open about their politics since the late 80’s. This was a very google-able question.
Its your creation of the planet! Thats why it sucks ;)
