    I legit didn't know gun manufacturers didn't sell their weapons directly, but now it makes sense. That might explain why it's the same for most (if not all) Airguns and Airsoft replicas too.

    Thanks Dave, I use this to train my online staff for price match vetting for my company's website. Only point you need to update is the 18/21 warning which is almost required now

      If I update this video, my audience won't watch it. This video is among the worst performing videos I've posted. I could update it, but then that would require taking this one down so I don't have all those emails from people expressing confusion. I've tried that kind of thing before. And again, no one will watch it. So I don't know it it's worth redoing a script, re-recording it, assembling updated shots from websites, etc.

    Love that the name of the company registering the domain was called NameSilo LLC, like come on, right there

      I know. There is so much wrong with these sites, I could have extended my "red flag" list to an hour long video. But it's already too long.

    I think I'm going to keep this close by to identify bogus shops in general. The one about not having anything out of stock, I never noticed it, but when you mentioned it, I realised I kept seeing it on every websites that seemed fake.
    Thanks!

    I love the gun store showing an FDA logo!

    I am surprised that these scammers are able to get the browser to show the padlock icon. I say this because in order to do so they have to get a security certificate from one of the few providers of those certs. Now, the cert is not a certification of a legit business BUT I was under the impression that the cert agencies would not do business with known scammers.

      When I set up my site on Wix.com, and on other services before that, it was very easy to pay a tiny fee for the security feature, and you don't need to be running a store. It comes bundled into website template packages. And since the website hosting services where scammers build these sites don't initially know a scammer has begun using their service, they aren't known scammers.

      Actually... I am no expert, but when you are a software developer and you decide to host a website on a domain you own, you can get a SSL/TLS certificate (the thing that gives your website the padlock, aka. HTTPS) for free by using _Let's Encrypt._ It's the most common one.

      As a software developer, I can assure you, getting a padlock is simple enough, for free.

    Good warning but I don't think your first point about age restriction is true in general. I have definitely seen legit gun and ammo sale sites ask about age (gunbroker is one, for example, and I think velocity ammo sales is another)

    • @HandgunSafe
      @HandgunSafe  Před rokem +1

      I've also seen a few gun and ammunition websites do this, claiming the age restriction is a response to recent statutory changes in one state or another. I believe the age restrictions are a matter of company policy, impression management, and another form of sales ploy.

      @@HandgunSafe I'm glad someone pointed this out. "Age walls" have recently appeared on the websites of several firearms-related companies that I have done business with for years, so I know they're legit. It's probably just some CYA on their part, since all you have to do is click that you're over 18 or 21 depending on the site.
      As always, if it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. Case in point: primers abundantly available at pre-dumpster fire prices.

      @@dr.a.w I agree. Sometimes that folksy old-time wisdom is worth paying attention to. It stuck around because it's true.
