- Today we ultrasound 3 (yes THREE) of our miniature Nigerian Dwarf goats to see if they are pregnant. Hopefully they are!
Hi there! đđ» We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old đ„° Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. đ„°

I say let Lydia get a cat, I mean you have emu and all the goats so I think it makes sense and she takes pretty good care of the goats.
Lydia is great with all of the animals, and I notice she always seems to have the most insight into their behavior. I think she'll be a veterinarian someday, or at least always have animals in her life.

Watch some of their videos from the past and you will see that he has milked the goats on multiple occasions.
The heat ruins pregnancy. Our rabbits have the hardest time getting pregnant in the Arizona heat.

I also breed rabbits. The heat can sterilize bucks. It's best to let them stay inside for about 5 days to a week before the day you want to breed them. Which I know is hard because normally I don't plan my breedings. I live in WA so I don't experience this problem. But I have heard from other breeders that this is what you should do when you live in a hot area.
We had them outside, but after loosing two rabbits to heat we moved them all inside. It's a chore to keep up with, but it's better than losing profit. I rais French Angora Rabbits and their wool is very warm and soft. I wonder if Goats are the same way. Perhaps if they bread them indoors it would take.It's just strange that three females would not be pregnant.

Emmy Fanslow yes I agree. I'm not sure how old the billy was, but he might be dried up. My niece bread her buck to two does on the same day. They were concerned the one doe didn't take because the buck got "tired" after four fall offs.

Iâm going to try and say this as kid friendly as possible. sometimes when it heats up and the buck is not used to breeding in the heat (iâve had this happen before) sometimes the mail man can be delivering packages but that package may be to damaged and all off the contents of the package donât work properly or the mail man can deliver packages but the package is empty... so try a new buck and if that dose not work try it again in fall but make sure not to breed in winter because The same thing can happen
I'm going to agree with everyone else that said to get a new buck. Obviously he is the problem, perhaps the heat has him shooting blanks for now, or maybe he's just plain infertile.
I'm aware - but fertile last year doesn't mean he is this year. Obviously something is wrong, either the buck or several does - which is more plausible, the buck went sterile or 3-4 does did?

My family raised miniature goats while growing. The only time they got pregnant was male and female actually living together. My dad said they were herd style type breeding. Our goats were pigmes, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I wish you luck. I love baby goats. Some day I'll tell you about my favorite having a litter like a dog during a blizzard and my reaction. ;)

With our sheep, cattle, and horses we just leave the bull/ buck/ stud with the females until they're all pregnant. We also pull the previous generation that came from the breeding male so there isn't any inbreeding and put the offspring in another pasture or coral till breeding season is over which was about this time of year. But our ranch is in Wyoming and there is 9 months of winter lol.

It's Saturday night Aug 11th, and boy did you send us a storm. Blew our fence down #1, but you also couldn't see across the road because the sand was so thick. Reports of semitractor trailers blown off the road between the dam and Kingman. Thanks guys, thanks. lol

We have 2 outdoor cats and 1 inside cat. Whenever they walk within 5 feet of the goat pen, "Mama Goat" prances over and rams the fence. She also chases them when they are in the pasture together, but that might just be her.

When I was Lydiaâs age, I had it set that I NEEDED a cat! But of course, my brother and dad were allergic!! What made it even worse was that my mom said herself that she WOULD GET me a cat if they werenât allergic!! đđŸ

Next year, you could plant the corn closer together. At least half the distance you got now. The stalks will keep each other upright and will pollinate each other better. On youtube, there is a video from a university that experiments with that.

Heat kills sperm. Most mammals testicles are external as even their own body heat is too high and would make them infertile.
You'll have to try again when it cools down!
