    How is Matcha made? In this video, we will take you through the process of creating our Matcha. The video was created during the 2018 spring harvest (first harvest).
    Steps of creating Matcha:
    1- Shading the tea leaves 3 weeks before harvest
    2- For the highest quality matcha, the leaves will be hand picked
    3- Steaming
    4- Air drying
    5- Oven drying
    6- De-stemming and de-veining, and removing the old leaves
    7- Stone grinding

    that was fascinating to watch, thank you. one thing i am confused about is that matcha uses whole leaf.. but you described the process strips the stems..is that process still described as using whole leaf? it's really interesting to hear about the vats they used to store the matcha a long time ago.

    • @catinabox3048
      @catinabox3048 Před 2 lety

      I'm not sure how the description works, but the reason matcha is described as "whole leaf" is because when you drink it, you're ingesting the ground-up leaf itself, as opposed to the water from a leaf infusion, as is the case for other teas. When you strip the stems, you don't change the fact that they're grinding up the leaves themselves.

    • @MatchaKonomi
      @MatchaKonomi  Před 2 lety

      Hi TechnicBoy, thank you for the question! Chlorophyll in leaves will absorb energy from sunlight in order to start the process of photosynthesis. When the plant is shaded, sunlight is reduced, and the plant will adapt by creating more chlorophyll to increase the ability of absorbing that energy.

If you feel it is too bitter plain, try making it into a latte and experiment with different milk alternatives until you find one you like! You can also add natural sweetness such as honey or agave or a spice like cinnamon or even try it with sparkling water to create different matcha drinks! 😊💚

    Why would I want matcha from a bunch of westerners like me? It’s an East Asian product with deep, serious connections within Asian society. Again, why would I want matcha from westerners, working in japan when the real effort/work is coming from the Japanese people themselves?

    • @MatchaKonomi

      TheSebastian5978 that is a great question! We work hand in hand with multiple family run Japanese farms, and farming is done by Japanese farmers. Bringing a consistently high quality matcha from its origin to customers’ doorsteps is made possible by a level of teamwork that we are very proud of. Our team consists of American and Japanese individuals that are truly passionate about what they do! 😊
      It is true that this tea is deeply connected to Japanese culture, but I can assure you that many westerners do appreciate and admire this tea and culture straight from their heart! 😊
