I second that. Been following since almost the beginning, this is your job now. Accept the sponsorship you feel good about even if they are not plant related. You eat food I would guess, If you like the food from that company, why not recommend them and cash in on it. I dont think ANYONE can be angry that you earn a living and continue to offer us content.

From one plant content creator to another, I understand feeling weird about doing sponsored content not directly related to plants. I went through a similar dilemma myself when I moved into content creation full-time. Someone I really look up to on plant CZcams is Summer Rayne Oakes. If you watch her, I'm sure you've seen that she has a decent amount of sponsorships in her videos. Summer does a lot of plant-related sponsorships, but she's also done sponsorships for mattresses, Hello Fresh, and other large companies. As a viewer, I never have negative feelings when I see her take on these opportunities. I feel happy for her that she's able to monetize her platform and be successful.
After realizing I felt this way toward her sponsored content I decided to take on more non-plant-related sponsorships. I only do ads for companies where I've used their product before and enjoyed it, or genuinely believe in what they're advertising and would recommend it to my audience. It can be very limiting if you only take on plant sponsorships as there isn't much of a social media market for it yet.
If you're under financial stress it just makes it more difficult to appear in front of the camera, be creative with content, and be your joyful upbeat self that I know your audience loves. I highly recommend you take on more sponsored content outside of plant stuff! I could see you doing sponsorships for companies like Squarespace, Notion, and Hello Fresh. I think the way Summer does her sponsorships would work well for your videos. She pretty much just does the sponsorship at the beginning of the video and then starts her video after that.

You could offer plant care consulting. Like zoom with people who are having issues and walk them through proper planting and placing in their homes. Or just give advice on the best plants for a room.
Would love this! Could even be a Patreon video series where people can send in pics or vids of struggling plants and he could give advice!

That said, for me, I wouldn’t mind seeing sponsorships outside the realm of plants, especially knowing how feel about staying true. CZcams is your job, sponsorships are a big part of that. When you put the anthurium from the terracotta to the gray pot, it was like finding a great pair of jeans. It just felt right. Hang in there and always take care of yourself.
You cannot go wrong with Repotme products. I have over 30 orchids and have used their mix for over 2 years or so and since I caught your channel I have gotten more Hoyas and trying peperomias and ordered more mixes to give them their best life.
Nick, I just googled green lace wings, and they do not bite, sting or spread disease...i think SOMETHING ELSE is biting you. Whatever it is, will get worse the longer they are left unchecked...so i advise you to put on your detective cap on and track down the culprits asap. Sorry buddy that you're dealing with that. Don't feel like turning down sponsors just because they aren't gardening-related, if it's a product or company you use and enjoy then that's all that matters. Yes pursuing an online content creation career is a fun thing to do but it's still a career, you still have to make a living for yourself and that's not something you should ever apologize for! I think the patreon idea is really good although I don't know anything about it really. But I would love more informative videos and would definitely pay for them because right now I don't know who to ask! I can't imagine bringing one of my precious hoyas into Lowe's and asking one of the cashiers in the garden section about them!

Hi Nick! Love your videos and this repot chit chat. It sounds like you should consider owning your first home. That way you have a fixed mortgage (no increase in rent or lease), can drill holes for multiple shelves for your fantasic plants and have privacy for filming. Food for thought. Take care!

Almost every CZcamsr I watch uses sponsors to make money. I want them to be successful, so I don't mind watching a few seconds about meal kits or VPN's. I think you should do the sponsorships. And Patreon is a no-brainer, you have a lot of adoring fans.
Personally, I love your repotting videos! I don't have any issues with sponsored content as long as the host is giving an honest review, so I say go for it! As a renter myself I can reassure you that lease renewals are always on my mind. Try rubbing a droplet of Dawn dishsoap into those bug bites (no water), and they should clear up in 24 hours. I hope your week goes better! 🪴

Hi Nick, I have learned so much from you. Your videos are what I watch as soon as they are posted. I am a fairly new house plant parent and you have opened my eyes to new plants and given me the courage to try them. I enjoy outdoor gardening and have built edible beds that are also visually appealing. If you decide to take on different sponsors, I would totally still watch. Not sure about patreon since I have not done that yet but I love your style and might consider it because of YOU. It would also be cool if you got into the outdoor plant space.
If it was up to me take any sponsorship you want and as long as the break is not too long I wouldn't mind at all. But Patreon is a great idea too, you can do live stream there once a month or once a quarter and chat with us, that's always fun.

I drove down to Logees yesterday! Only an hour and 20 minutes from Boston, WOW! What a place- so amazing, I spent a few hours checking out all their plants, and ended up with a couple of Alocasia and 4 small terrarium plants- 3 peperomias and 1 fern for a project. If you are ever in the East Coast/New England area, it's a must for any plant lover.

Repotting is therapy for the soul sometimes. I've been having a rough week too, and did get the chance to repot 6 plants this week and it really helped. Hope everything works out and your stress disappears!

So glad you're having a better time with coco coir over peat moss! I made the switch in June of last year and my plants haven't been happier. I can also just stick cuttings directly into soil without worrying now, which has been a huge help with prop box space.

Also also also, I too was dreading rent price increases at like 6 months til lease end 😅 Sometimes we worry far too much. But also, rent is a literal crisis right now. We need some legislation to protect housing from becoming another capitalist hellscape.
My partner and I have two full time jobs, health insurance, make well over minimim wage, no dependents other than cats. And I still have to have a second part time job to make ends meet. It's so incredibly frustrating to be doing everything "right" and still be confronted with it not being enough.
