- In this video I’m going to take you through the most important aspects of these TOP 5 full face motorcycle helmets and give you my opinion on which helmet is best for which type of rider.
It’s an exciting time for full face helmets as there are a lot of great new models available on the market, making it a difficult task for us to narrow them all down to a top 5. And as full face helmets do generally offer the best protection for your face and head, it is understandable that you’re considering picking one of these up over a modular or an open face helmet.
A modular helmet can be worn with the chin bar upwards and an open face helmet is missing chin protection altogether, so a full face helmet sort of wins the protective competition almost always by default. The five helmets I’m going to show you can all be put into the category of sport/sport-touring helmets, which is a bit too general - that’s why I’m going to tell you a little something about each lid. At the end of the video you’ll know which helmet to choose or not to choose.

1:00 - Nexx X.R2
The X.R2 helmet by Nexx is of very good value and it has a pleasant fit. It’s fairly lightweight and the limited edition Redline helmet looks really badass with the reddish mirror visor! This is one of the few sporty helmets in Nexx’s collection, but it’s a good one.

3:19 - AGV K6
This helmet is loosely based on Valentino Rossi’s go-to helmet: the Pista GP RR. The AGV K6 is made of mostly carbon fibre and it weighs next to nothing for a helmet - it’s very light. It comes in 4 different shell sizes and the visor is extremely strong and thick.

6:12 - Shark Spartan GT Carbon
French helmet makers “Shark” are well known for making futuristic looking helmets with good performance. The Shark Spartan GT Carbon is very comfortable and it features quite a luxurious visor. The design is very striking and it will definitely look great and work great on a sports bike or naked bike.

8:57 - Arai Quantic
The very first helmet in our collection to meet the new ECE 22.06 safety requirement: the Arai Quantic. This simplistic lid is very strong and very pleasant to ride with. It features many vents and is roomier that the typical Arai helmet in the chin area.

12:05 - Shoei NXR2 (also known as RF-1400)
Shoei’s latest and greatest full face helmet, fully compliant with the new ECE 22.06 certification. This successor to their original NXR is a fantastic and very welcome update with a great new aerodynamic shape, improved ventilation and a new visor system. The helmet is eligible for the Shoei Personal Fitting System.

Great vid. Now considering purchasing the Arai helmet but not sure of the pro shade being on outside and easily getting dirt on it. I’ve seen some ads on photochromatic pin-locks? Any thoughts on these if you’ve tried them?
Don't bother with the photochromic pinlock, almost all visors block UV and that's what it needs to tint so it only tints a small amount. If you want a proper photochromic visor get a helmet model with a transitions visor, my Shoei RYD has one and it works properly. I believe one will come out for the NXR2 eventually as well, I was really interested in the Arai Quantic too but after using a transitions visor I don't think I can deal with the pro shade.
There are no cabon fibers in shoei’s AIM. It is present in the AIM+ material. Any idea why the nxr 2 gets an aim shell vs the aim+ shell the rf1400 gets in the US? Aim+ which has 6 layers is the more advanced material mix compared to the aim which is 5 layers. Is the NXR2 inferior compared to the rf1400 due to the difference in material mix and weights?

I had nexx long time ago and I it's my favorite but I have arai head and nexx is closer to shoei fitment, it hurts my heart because it's very very very great.

Simpson is popular with cruisers, and personally, i love the Bell Broozer. Fighter pilot style. But for all out comfort and safety, you can't go wrong with Arai. It might not be the style for the bike, but it's like a pillow on your head, so dam, comfy.
I sometimes dress my hands up like that too so my special times alone are even more special.

You shouldn't recommend a helmet that scores 3 stars - out of 5 - in the SHARP tests. A helmet's main function is to adequately protect the wearer's head in case of a crash, and the Nexx X.R2 fails at that.
Thanks for your comment. Although you do make an interesting point, we do not necessarily follow SHARP religiously. None of the other helmets have even been tested by SHARP at this point, and even with a 3-star rating the Nexx still scores above average. For the price it is a well-made and strong helmet. More protection is always better, so the Shoei or Arai lids might be your best bet, especially on the track - that's why they're ranked as no. 1 and no. 2 respectively.
SHARP is outdated and nowhere near comprehensive enough. Your safest bet for comprehensive protection is any helmet with FIM homologation. The Scorpion Exo R-1 in size small (and only small!) is an example of an FIM helmet that can be easily obtained. ECE 22.06 rating follows very closely and is more widely available to consumers, Arai exceeds 22.06 standards consistently and have been doing so since the days of 22.05 - it’s no wonder they were the first manufacturer to get that 22.06 sticker slapped on a lid.

Where is the clattering noise coming from?
That's a good question! We started using a new microphone which somehow causes this noise, so we've since replaced it. But the videos that had already been shot still carry the noise, sadly.
