The Off Grid Log Cabin Sauna - Wood Floor and What's the Roof Frame For?

I use the sauna for the first time despite the gaps in the walls of the log cabin bathhouse that prevent it from getting up to the right temperature. I'll be curing that soon. The weather this week is great for working outside, but I've been busy doing a variety of spring projects so my progress on the sauna was limited to the floor in the change room and a frame for the live roof. I spend a few hours preparing my open-water fishing and camping gear for a spring fishing trip in the evening.
I talk at the end of the video for a few minutes, explaining why I have not been doing My Self Reflections for awhile. I plan to change that.

Shaun, you don't have to worry about the whole "change lives" or "make a difference" thing. Just be you - we all feel like you're our friend and that's pretty special - have fun fishing. I'll be sitting in my self-built studio cabin (that you inspired me to build) watching the birds and tending my garden. Tight lines and safe travels.

You are willing to share this with whoever wants to watch. If someone feels that your input is not relevant, intelligent or insightful to them, they can choose not to watch. You do what you do and don’t stop. Live your life. Me personally, I love watching and sharing vicariously in your life adventures and I would be disappointed if you ever chose to stop sharing. I've watched from the cabin build...til present. The craftsmanship...some may think is the teaching...
For me,...even as a 50 yr old man... it's everything else. The quiet,the peace...the meals you prepare,the self sufficient and reliance.
I've found through your videos...even with a limited amount of back strength left for me...You're living a life,I would give the rest of my life trying to achieve.

The angst Shawn is expressing stems not out of his personality, but from the format of this communication tool. He is attempting in his reflections to express ideas that typically would, except for the pulpit, be expressed in a two-way conversation. He doesn't mean to preach, but this format makes it preachy because there is no back and forth. At least that's my sense of what he expressed.
I think the wisdom you discover during your path and share with us, is more than confident and inspiring. There is no need for perfection or completeness! Thank you for all the effort you put into it. There are not many people out there being so natural truthful and warm-hearted. Your activities and sharing are a big gift to all people which are willing to listen.

I really appreciate your reflections and I've never thought you've never came across preachy. And I believe there are many that you've helped and your voice and the way you speak is very therapeutic. But your wisdom is always welcome, and it is your right to say what you think on your videos. Please don't ever feel the need to self-censor yourself; you don't offend, other people get offended, and if they do, they have no-one to blame but themselves.
Say whatever you think needs to be said. Those that want to listen, will. Those that don't, won't. Those that don't want you to speak, well, they know where they can go. ;)
Watching is a great way to learn . Reading , spoken word , visual ,,, all very powerful , spoken word and visual more so I feel . Watching forces brain power and less distracting . Your videos are amazing .

I'm 75 year old grandma living close to the Sequoias in California. My earliest memories have been camping in the woods climbing rocks fishing with Dad. As a child I lived in Minnesota and Iowa with always having great places to fish.
Basically, I can no longer do all those things so I live vicariously through you and Joe Robinette and all the rest. I have followed you since the beginning of your home and loved every minute I've watched you.

Excellent video, as they all are. It seems like something has changed a little, because you never seemed hesitant to talk about your reflections before. You have over 800K subscribers, and all along some people have been offended, as will always be the case, but look at all the people who rush to the videos when they are up, because they want to see what you are up to and hear what you have to say. You have almost started a movement toward cabins and living the way you do, because look what you have accomplished in 3 years! Seriously, you are such a positive example for others. I don't know why you suddenly feel reticent to share your reflections, maybe it is part of this amazing journey you are on to live this life you have chosen. Hi Shawn, I have been watching the cabin videos for maybe a year now. I love the beauty shots of nature and Cali and I find the whole cabin life quiet and peaceful. When you have an opinion or reflection I appreciate your thoughts and I don't need to agree with everything you say or believe. We all have opinions and you have always been respectful expressing yours. If I ever felt strongly enough to post a counter point on something I would do so respectfully because that is my responsibility. As others have said, they find the videos relaxing and entertaining. Continued success. And maybe a little closet space in the sauna building would be a thoughtful touch...

I am a older Vietnam Vet and am diagnosed with PTSD and I for one enjoy all that you are doing. I appreciate that you take us along on all that you do no matter what it entails. Those that may say bad things about it can just go away. You will always have those few. I am sure you are helping many people out there and I for one feel that it is a great comfort and relief to listen and see all that you do. I really enjoy hearing you speak Shawn, and I think a lot of us do! You are measured in what you say and when you do speak people listen because you have something interesting to say. 800K + subscribers are proof of that. I think you should always follow that sixth sense, your intuition. If it's telling you to speak or you feel you an urge to share an experience or perspective on something then definitely do it.
You're more than skilled and intelligent and philosophical enough to talk about your own experiences in a positive light with your fans as you already do! Without appearing big headed or condescending like a lot of people in life are.... I am reluctant to discuss this in such a public place.... but I think it's important for us all to open up and talk a little bit, I don't even care if someone ridicules me for saying this but my old man (who as a boy like most I looked up to) , is a great mechanic, good builder, and good joiner, good hands and intuition, built and fabricated a lot of things, just like you, I'd say very practical, but his ego and attitude are awful and it's lead to the complete breakdown of our relationship all because he makes me and others feel so uncomfortable and inferior in his presence with all his condescending remarks, I can't handle it, life is hard enough without people making you feel worthless and inferior to them.
I love watching you work on these various projects , you've great hands But you show no ego and when you talk its measured, kind, and thought provoking. Which is like a breath of fresh air for people like me. To share those skills and life experiences you've acquired along the way with people that like what you do and look to you as a positive inspirational figure in life just seems to me to be a wonderful and important place to be in todays dysfunctional and unsustainable society.

Je vous parlais la dernière fois de la forêt canadienne qui est immense et riche , riche car on peut en vivre, sirop d'érable, champignons,des fruits des bois, arbres (bois pour bâtir et se chauffer) des lacs ou l'on peut pêcher du bon poisson ,la forêt et son gibier sauvage et j'en passe ,terre de forêt, fertile et bonne pour le potager,plantes sauvages médicinales et j'en passe ??? On comprend pourquoi les anciens autochtones (Indiens)(vivaient en symbiose avec cette nature rude belle et généreuse !!! C'est vraiment le miracle de la nature et de Dieu tout puissant !!..
