LOMO PURPLE in the Leica M6 | shooting outside & first impressions

- In this video I shoot my first roll ever of Lomography's "Lomochrome Purple". I shot this roll on ISO 200, using my Leica M6 and the Voigtländer Color Skopar 35mm/2.5. The film was developed and scanned by Safelight Berlin (not sponsored). Two images were cropped slightly, other than that none of the pictures were edited in any way.

I've been looking on CZcams at people shooting with lomo purple because I recently got two rolls and... I just want to say that I've been watching videos of photographers with millions of subscribers and their work is okay but your work in this video is consistently phenomenal and you deserve so much more recognition. Hahaha, love the analogy of the goodbyes then having to awkwardly go the same way :) Also, very surprised at the results, I thought I would never try this film stock in my life, but it feels interesting in the right scenarios. Good work!!! And damn that M6 looks SEXY in titanium.

Definitely love the motion shots, and anything involving the skull! I had the same outcome as you after I tried this and Metropolis: I thought these were gimmick films, but I really liked my results. I'll definitely be using Purple again soon.

I love Lomochrome Purple, and now you've inspired me to try photographing people with this film! My cats, not so much... the eyes did freak me out a bit! Seriously though, great video, I am very quickly falling in love with Germany!

Nice photos! I think I may need to try Lomo Purple myself. I have some Metropolis that I Kickstarted a while ago but haven't tried yet.
Lomo Metropolis is also on my list of films to try in the future! :) Hope you will have a good time playing around with it.
Great video. I am definitely going to have to give this film a try. Was also surprised by how well it handled skin tones, well at least light skin tones. I wonder how it would handle higher pigmentation.

I have ordered a few rolls of this and the Metropolis in 120 format and really looking forward to shooting with it. The lake shots were particularly interesting. New sub here 📸

I really liked the forest shots too, but I got to agree the water looks amazing on this film. I shot a few rolls in Tokyo once and it didn't work that well with the grey tones that are prevalent here... That or my lab messed up the scans.

Yes, it was in one of those new canisters and as far as I recall it did not have DX coding. :)

I'm curious at what ISO/ASA did you rate this roll at?
I've shot an "older version" of this film when it was first released and rated it in the middle at 200, then under and overexposed as needed. I got some descent results, but nothing that made me want to dive deep into Lomochrome Purple. Now from what I've been seeing from the newest batch of this film, I've been curious to give it a try again. Especially after seeing this video.
It was from the new stock, already in a plastic canister. And I rated this film at 200 iso and always metered for the mid tones. Varying in iso would also be interesting, need to try this another time!
While this film wouldn't be my cup of tea, you made some very interesting images. The reds are redder than Ektar's reds!
I see why, it's for sure not for everybody and also not right for everything. Lomo should write your last sentence on their box as an ad haha!
I shot a roll of LomoChrome Purple while doing macro photography at a botanical garden, and it worked out really well. I'd recommend trying that!
That's an awesome idea! :) I was never big into macro, but it would be interesting to experiment with on the film in particular!
@@KarinMajoka I was attending my second macro workshop and happened to have this film loaded when someone loaned me their Micro-Nikkor macro lens. I had to try it out, and I'm glad I did!
I think this film works better in the urban location. Gritty city scapes maybe?

Hi there,
you're wasting three frames at the beginning. Just make sure the film sprockets catch the little prongs in the middle and the end of the film is in between the three prongs on the right and you can close the camera without advancing the film first. Then you just need to advance once and you can start shooting. The counter should be at -1 at that point. You'll see if the rewind crank moves when you davance the film. If it does, you're good to go. Otherwise you can still wind back the film a little bit, open the camera up again and then start over.
On a 36-exposure-roll you can get at least 38 frames with an M6, oftentimes 39.
You are absolutely right! I usually do it that way too, but I guess I got a bit camera shy loading the film and played extra extra save, because you only have one occasion to record it haha. That's pretty useful knowledge though everybody should know to squeeze to most of frames out of your roll! ✌🏼

Hi Karin, really appreciate your videos. But, please do something on the video's quality. It's like a vintage shooting, so flat and sad colors. The content deserves a better treatment. (Story of how you got the M6 was so moving). Hope the best for you !
Hey, thanks for your comment! :) I think colors are something very very subjective and to be honest I like that vintage, pale, washed-out look (I even considered buying an old camcorder for that purpose haha). However, I will experiment more with grading and saturated colors to see how that feels like.
Hi Karin, understood. Your work, your taste! I will follow you a little to see if you'll change that a little in the future. I'm making also some film testing at the moment with my Leica M7 and some Voigtlander lenses (mainly 50 1.2) and this so refreshing. A Sony A7RIV with all the best prime lenses (including FE manual Voigtlander lenses) is my main gear. I'm sure that you have a lot of fun with taking picture and this is surely one of the most important thing. Take care to keep this precious approach for a long time. Bye.
I am not a videographer and there are sooo so many things I still have to learn and improve on, so don’t get me wrong, feedback like this helps immensely :) even though I generally like the colors as they are, of course comments like this inspire me to try out different things, so let’s see. Hi Karin. This will be my last advice : print and sell. Find a place to exhibit prints and give them a value (a money value). Sell the prints to real people, you can meet and touch, so you will see their pleasure when they decide to put their money on your work: great moments, every time. When you do that, you must be more critical on your work (if you ask the friends around you, they will also be more critical when they know this is for selling). Wish you a very long and tasty trip with photography. All the best!
Thanks so much, that's some golden advice and I totally agree! I have printed many of my images (also in the darkroom) but have not started selling anything. The thing you say about becoming more critical when selling prints is pretty spot on, I hope to get to the point of having good enough pictures that are worth exhibiting and selling.
