  • We are going to make some fireworks inside of Unity. This tutorial goes over some of the basics of Unity's particle system, but goes in depth with sub-emitters and a few other advanced features.

    This was so helpful - even 5 years later... I just created some awesome fireworks from scratch thanks to this video, and they look amazing and are also performant in VR! Thank you so much.

    Shaders for the rocket and trail may be like legacy shaders->particles->additive for the version you use , just wanted to mention ...

      If you don't want to use the legacy shader, you could also use Particles > Standard Surface and there under rendering mode select additive. Not sure if this changes anything, but it might be worth a try.

    Excellent tuto thanks! The "noise" module is great to make the rocket not go perfectly straight along their path

    When you create the sparkle graphic in Photoshop, what dimensions (width/height) should be used?

    • @RandomArtAttack
      @RandomArtAttack  Před 6 lety +2

      Keep it square and keep it a factor of 2. so 2x2, 4x4, 8x8,16x16,32x32, 64x64, etc. The smaller the image the faster.

    • @mariofrkovic2388
      @mariofrkovic2388 Před 6 lety

      I guess that's why my system slows down... CPU, GPU, RAM usage is really, really low, VSync is off, but computer just freezes when I create a few tousand particles. Does anyone know anything else about it? My image was 640x480.

    • @RandomArtAttack
      @RandomArtAttack  Před 6 lety +1

      Do you have any code running in the background as well. You really shouldn't have it slow down that much, unless your computer is really really old.

    How'd you make the burst spawn where the rocket died? It's always spawning in the wrong position on my end.

    • @RandomArtAttack
      @RandomArtAttack  Před 6 lety

      I can't say without seeing your particle emitter, but my first guess is an incorrect hierachy. If you can't get it working after shuffling around some things let me know.

    • @LandyRShambles
      @LandyRShambles Před 6 lety

      Turns out the "death" isn't actually triggered until a particle's trail has also died. Annoying quirk... Either way, I changed my rocket trail to a nicer looking particle-based solution, closer to the one you have here. Thanks a bunch for the tutorial!

  • @zielonamrowka493
    @zielonamrowka493 Před 5 lety

    I really could use your help, kinda hoped you will show the solution here. Tried to add subemmitter to my particle in 2D project (kind of a smoke from set of sprites that should be rendered under it's parent) but I can't hide it behind my main particle. I tried sorting by layers and order, tried with position, pivot, switching between local/world in every setting I could but ended with no change :/

    Great tutorial, what size do you recommend for the sparkle sprite ?

    • @RandomArtAttack
      @RandomArtAttack  Před 6 lety +1

      It is dependent upon how big it will be in your scene. Whatever you do, make sure to keep it as a power of 2. 2,4,8,16,32, etc. For most intents and purposes 64x64 should be enough.

  • @thenekoza2259
    @thenekoza2259 Před 6 lety

    Same thing with the burst, it is spawning the burst near the origin of the rocket even though I have it set to a death sub-emitter. My hierarchy appears to be the same as yours. Any suggestions?

    • @thenekoza2259
      @thenekoza2259 Před 6 lety

      Scratch that, it seems like the only part that is spawning on death is the main flame particle

    Once we have a prefab created, can we delete sprite.png and the material assets?

    • @RandomArtAttack

      No, the prefab references the sprite.png so it must remain.

    • @RobertGroves
      @RobertGroves Před 6 lety

      Yes, Unity has a "personal edition" that is free for beginners/students/hobbyists. Basically, if you're not making over 100k in gross annual revenue from your games you're allowed to use the free version. Details and download are here: store.unity.com/products/unity-personal
