Drummer Mike Byrne brings it all together. I believe he just turned 20 yrs old right near this time. Just like the comment below, pulls the band in tight and is spot on. The kid did alright on his short tenure w/the Pumpkins.
@@kennethgriffin7921 that’s quite a hot take, don’t get me wrong, Corgan is great and he can write some good stuff, but think about Chamberlin, he is also a very talented musician. The other two I can mostly agree with u.
I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that! I’m not gonna lie: I REALLY MISS DARCY BEING IN THIS BAND 💔
@@rareone2369I'm Brazilian and I've been listening since I was 12 when I didn't understand English at all. Today I'm fluent and I have the same feeling ❤
Relaxing? I have two minor heart conditions. Billy Corgan’s voice in 1979 gives me palpitations and arrhythmia almost every time- especially if he’s playing electric. It’s literally happening now. If I play it a second time I get angina! Getting old sucks!
What a great performance! This channel has a lot of great bands! I love this song. It reminds me of this girl I love. I may never see her, but at least I have hope. I believe that's very important! God bless you all! 🙂 ❤️

It so hard to put your finger on the magic that one song or another has for a person. This song speaks to me... deeply.... Tugs on something dark and almost forgotten. This is just one of those songs....
I hear ya bro, this was my life in 1979 if you watch the official video, it's awesome! I did a cover of it here if ya want good laugh. Such a timestamp of a song.
They were in the right place at the right time, having Butch Vig produce their album right after he produced Nirvana. How could their album have failed? Everyone wanted to hear Butch's followup to Nevermind, and this band was it. It was like being a new series and following Seinfeld or Friends.

This version of the band put out better material that the reunion version has. I think Billy was actually challenged to try at this point, and since Jimmy and James came back he has leaned hard into nostalgia and Pro Tools.
Artists with great creative skills, create. Corgan is building a body of work that when all said and done, will mark him as one of the pre-eminent composers/singers/performers in the history of this genre.
The Drummer is spot on and pulls this performance together. Awesome !!
I think that's Mike Byrne. I'm sort of partial to Jimmy Chamberlain.
the drummer played as if the song were his own. Really.
Young man kills it on the drums!
Chamberlin doesn't play the highhat accents live, Mike does. ;)
His name is Juppiter Creugen
Shout out to the sound tech. The whole band sounds great, but those drums are phenomenal.
“Nostalgia often feels bittersweet -- mostly happy and comforting, but with a tinge of sadness that whatever we’re remembering is lost in some way."
Melancholy and the infinite sadness 🤔
Billy wants everyone to join in but they're all to hypnotized by the beauty of how good this sounds live LOL!
I wonder if he realizes this! 😆

That time when Billy Corgan ordered the rest of the Smashing Pumpkins from Wish.
well the rest of them shoulda realized they were just musicians and the only actual artist in the band was Billy boy

Drums were stellar.
The kinda music when your laying under the stars forgetting about the rest of the world.

this version is nuts. so good
Brilliant song, one of rock's greatest singer/composers and a total listening pleasure!
“She hung down with YOU freaks and ghouls..” 🙌🏽
Mike Byrne drives this song with a basic set of bass, tom, snare, hi-hat, and not abusing the crash. Sweet kit...less is often more!!!!!!!!!
This is awesome
What a cool relaxing sounds... they coming back my memories on college 😊

Shakedown, 1979
Cool kids never have the time
On a live wire right up off the street
You and I should meet
June bug skipping like a stone
With the headlights pointed at the dawn
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust, I guess forgotten and absorbed to the Earth below
Double-cross the vacant and the bored
They're not sure just what we have in store
Morphine city slippin' dues down to see
That we don't even care as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
And poured cement
Lamented and assured
To the lights and towns below
Faster than the speed of sound
Faster than we thought we'd go
Beneath the sound of hope
Justine never knew the rules
Hung down with the freaks and the ghouls
No apologies ever need be made
I know you better than you fake it to see
That we don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust, I guess forgotten and absorbed to the Earth below
The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around
Best comment ever.
Drummer is locked in. Legit.
Hell Yeah !!!
