  • The Advent Calendar Project: Prélude, Choral varié, and Fugue on ‘Veni redemptor gentium’ - Margreeth de Jong - Raymond Nagem, organist
Prizewinning composer Margreeth Chr. de Jong is music director and organist of the Nieuwe Kerk, Middelburg in the Netherlands, and the first female city organist in the capital of Zeeland. She has written over 120 works, including those for organ, choir, soprano and organ, violin and organ, cello and organ, piano, and string orchestra. Her compositions have been performed all over the world and this solo organ piece is modeled after Maurice Duruflé’s Prélude, Adagio and Choral Varié, Opus 4. ‘Veni redemptor gentium’ is an Advent hymn by 4th century Saint Ambrose of Milan, later translated by Martin Luther into “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” - “Savior of the Nations, Come.”
