    I have a 1997 honda foreman 400 that had no spark. made sure the ignition coil and cdi was good and checked all the wires. finally I replaced the voltage regulator/rectifier. it has three yellow wires, two of them go to the stator and one of them goes to the CDI. it takes the AC voltage from the stator and converts it to DC for the CDI which charges up the ignition coil and that goes to the spark plug.
    anyway it sat for over a year unmessed with I took the old one off it tested bad got an aftermarket voltage reg/rect and it fires right up. so if you have no spark on these quads I strongly suggest taking a look at the voltage regulator/rectifer

    i suppose if your VR has a rectifier in it, because you have a AC armature in my guess , it would have to convert to DC, so that is my guess why initially there was no spark with a bad rectifier in the VR

    if you clamp on a amp meter to the wire from the pick up coil i believe it would give you a reading indicating its working i believer, also to the black wire going to the ignition coil primary side. this should be a quick check before tearing apart or purchasing any parts.

      Yes sir checked everything thing first and still replaced even though they checked good except for the last thing regulator

    Hey man I'm in the same boat , and I changed cdi box and coil still no spark, mine is a Honda four Trax 300,after your video I'm heading to the garage and check out the wire that you showed to regulator. Thanks a bunch for the tip. Let you know what I find out. Thanks Greg

    Hi can I ask was it the regulator rectifier that was the problem for no spark thanks On your video was a little bit dark

    • @matthewwhite4799
      @matthewwhite4799  Před rokem

      Yes it was the regulator rectifier. I should’ve specified a little better and showed the part off of 4 wheeler but I was just glade to get it running considering everybody I talked to had no idea.

    I have a 2002 Honda forman 450 it will have spark and it will run good and then It won't have spark at all Do you think that it Could be a voted resistor to just like your issue ?

      my foreman 400 did the exact thing it was the voltage regulator/rectifer. its right under the back right fender

  • @ronhanish
    @ronhanish Před rokem +1

    i dont know what the regulator has to do with the ignition circuit, but i do know it gets a direct feed from the armature for charging batteries i believe.

    • @matthewwhite4799
      @matthewwhite4799  Před rokem +1

      It confused me to but apparently their was a short in the regulator or broken circuit is the only thing I could think of I tested the regulator but I couldn’t figure out the correct readings and it was the last thing that I couldn’t check correctly so I replaced it and poof it worked I was ready to take a week to think if it didn’t work

      the reg/rec converts ac voltage to dc voltage, if its bad ?, it wont fire the spark plug, as spark plugs are dc voltage.

    • @matthewwhite4799
      @matthewwhite4799  Před rokem +1

      Very true but the cdi had power going to it from the battery which was a little confusing apparently it needs power coming from the regulator to cdi too which would voltage regulator I’ve had other models work with the battery but regulator bad. They tried to trick me

    • @The_Real_Jammy
      @The_Real_Jammy Před rokem +1

      it is a three phase reg/rectifier on these quads. it regulates the battery voltage and rectifies the AC stator voltage into DC for the CDI. if you have no spark or intermittent spark a lot of times these voltage reg/rect are the culprit

    I have 30 years working on ATVs and small engines, most often, your better off taking your broken down equipment to an experienced professional. It will cost less money in the long run , they will diagnose the problem and replace only the defective part, saving the customer alot of time and money. But , Koodos to you for fixing your issue 👍

    • @matthewwhite4799
      @matthewwhite4799  Před rokem +3

      Not in this state. We just have a bunch of parts changer’s that couldn’t diagnose it being out of gas . It cost me a total of 150 dollars of extra parts and the dealers mark there prices up and I’m poor anyways so I can’t afford a dealer. Thank you though.

      Man the only place that’ll work on my 2003 rancher 350 es is a shitty little shop and they messed up last time I took it in. My quads been stopping electric shifting about 5 minutes after riding now it won’t start or shift with the key over at all I replaced battery it was dead and it won’t start or shift but headlights are working this four wheeler is kicking my ass I bought her from a retired cop in really great condition but I just don’t know much to fix it myself sadly
