His twin meaning got corrupted over time. This became hinted at with one of the early arr dungeons.

I think it is truly fascinating to look at this song, the message and meaning of the twin god of scales, and then compare it to Ul'dah proper and be like "wow you completely lost the plot here, little potato men".

If you read up on the lore of the seven heavens and sevens hells of Eorzean belief, the heaven of fire is for those who accumulate wealth and give out employment and charity, those who use their wealth for the betterment of others. Now what do you think the hell of fire is reserved for? (Spoilers: it doesn't take a great deal of imagination)

@@phoenixwulf6010IIRC we lost the cheer at the end of Dungeons long before Endwalker. It definitely wasn't there in ShB, it might have even stopped before that sometime in SB.
And now we have it back, that sense of adventure, that unbridled joy at having overcome a challenge... thanks to, of all people, Emet-Selch and freaking Zenos...
I always loved that detail that your wol at some point in ARR they just stopped doing it cause of the events of the story and further onwards. Its a small detail but it fits so well. It makes for a great joy for when they start doing victory poses again

For me it gives me anxiety, did we mess up or pass. Usually its that one person that second guessed 😢
A pity that new players can't experience it. As the raid is usually over before that happens. Square seriously need to revisit this raid and lower the maximum ilvl. Same with Hades fight and end singer. The maximum ilvl is too high for those fights so content is skipped.
Alternative B. Force the content to happen.

Not only did I start in Ul'Dah, Nald'Thal was my patron. And my first class was a Black Mage.
Make no mistake, this fight was MADE for me.
My very first character also started in Ul'dah but Menphina's her goddess, so both raids mean a lot to her xD

Honestly, when I heard this theme for the first time, I was already singing along. It’s just so freaking catchy and the lyrics really fits Ul’dah perfectly.
Hearing this theme isolated, i finally realized they used some tiny bells instrument, which pretty much sounds like a handful of coins being tossed around.

Masayoshi Soken is a cracknut for using "unusual instruments" whenever he can. Such as Costa del Sol's theme not actually having maracas, but coins shaken around in a ramen cup.
So if it sounds like coins being thrown around in a bag, chances are, knowing the guy, it actually is coins being thrown around in a bag.
Dedicated to Moonlight is wonderful, but this is still my favourite theme of Myths of the Realm thus far. Literally chills. Something about the shifting time signature does it for me.
I agree. I''d just like to add that... If In the Balance was light-years ahead or something, we wouldn't even be having this conversation. So, imo, the fact that we are asking ourselves this question is, by itself, a testment to how good Dedicated to Moonlight also is.
I liked Dedicated to Moonlight but was kinda dissapointed with it. I was expecting Nophica as final boss so that each of the 3 city states would have their own song to match their god.
Didn't really look up any of the Twelve lore beforehand, now I know they went with Menphina because of the ordering of the symbols and all that, but still. I really liked the idea of each city getting a song.
The fight itself was also just not as much fun as Nald'thal's.
I just find it cool we're fighting them and fighting the deities we chose to follow at the start of the game
I like that they chose to give us these fight's without just resorting to a "The Gods are Evil" fight.
Kinda wish they all got their own Trial style fight though, but I know that untenable.
I think it's missing more integration with that choice
This song is catchy AF. The arrangement captures the Middle Eastern/Indian vibes that seem to comprise the musical theme of Ul'Dah, while the two time signatures illustrate, in a musical sense, Nald'Thal's dual nature as god of commerce and god of death. Right where you hear the descending glissando after "life death will follow" ( at 1:22 and 3:22) is where it switches from 3/4 time to 4/4 time. I could go in depth on this, but Alex Moukala did it already in his video on this song.

I love how they picture the souls of their Ul'dahn believers being fierce and burn bright as flames. It makes me proud to have started in Ul'dah.
Nymeia is my patron deity but I started in Ul'Dah so I was really happy with this fight. Felt great hearing this song after hearing about Nald'Thal for years
With Rhalgr my deity (as a black mage dunesfolk), dying to him in this dungeon was an honor.
As someone who plays a Monk, i felt the same way. And I asked for his autograph after we beat him. Still never got it though…

As a Black mage sun keeper miqote dieing to anzemya was an honor as well.
I'm a highlander monk, and when he knocked me off his palm after I tried to outwit him with arm's length, I had even more respect for his power.

That subtle coin clink in the background that accompanies the beat... perfect.
Seriously, this track still gives me chills months later. tea's vocals are just so beautiful and vibrant, and the composition really captures the hustle and bustle of Ul'dah perfectly.
My patron deity, I never knew I'd be so happy and content with my choice until this.
My free company friends helped me through this raid a couple of days ago and I was already amazed by the whole thing and then this song started up and I lost it with how amazing it was. Definitely one of my favorites boss fights and songs in the game!
Between this and Dedicated to Moonlight I cannot wait to hear whatever we get from the last raid. Absolute bangers

Well since Aglaia finished with an Ul'dahn song and Euphrosyne finished with a Black Shroud song, I can only imagine the final raid will finish with some kind of epic sea shanty for Limsa.

Aglaia has been an absolute favorite raid since it came out. I love playing through it, fights are crazy and fun, music is incredible, it's a gorgeous area to raid, and the gear looks awesome. I'm so excited for the next part of the raid. I remember first getting to this fight and damn it was so much fun.

Same! They need to adjust the iLvl sync for this raid, new players should be able to experience the scales phase, and that awesome cutscene where they split into Nald and Thal.
My very first run here was 3 days ago and we did NOT skip scales, and we wiped to it too. Was not fun my very first time not knowing what the hells was going on, but listening to this song made it worth it.
I do all healer runs of this pretty frequently and we get all the mechs
Rest in peace to the scales mechanic. People just blasting through it so fast now that an entire mechanic is just ignored now.
That happened to me the last time I ran Aglaia in Alliance roulette; we skipped the Balance mechanic, and I was so upset about it.

@ReesesBees happened to me for the first time yesterday. I blurted out "we skipped scales?!" And my dad asked me what I was talking about.
My hopes for the next alliance raids are thus, let the final bosses be the patron deities of the starting city states and the songs be sort of like this one as songs of worship. Like, that would be so cool!
As much as I'd be down with that, Althyk should be the final boss as he is the first of the Twelve and god of time.
@@GiovanniZaluchi point taken, this is my hopes, not what I think will actually happen. I should have been clearer about that in my original comment. I think the final boss will probably be either Halone or Menphina (probably Halone) because of the elemental chart and such. I’m down with whatever, I just think that what they did for the first one was cool and I want more. But I don’t care much for speculating, what we get is what we get and I will enjoy it all the same :)

@@insertname3977 why? This is literally what happened. Menphina is the patron of the keepers and one of the primary dieties in the Shroud, the entire song is a keeper prayer

@@harrylane4 The original comment, said the city states, didn't read Rachel's last one. Menphina is not worshipped by Gridania (which is the ruling city state of the Shroud and thus the main culture within that area) Nophica is their goddess. The Elezen's far out number Moon Keepers in the lore, and their racism towards the feline race (along with their adherence to the seerers and appeasing the elementals), makes it that Menphina worship is rather limited to a small handful, and even then it's mostly the tribal Moon Keepers who try to stick to their old way of life.
I love the detail of using the sound of clinking coin as an instrument.
One thing I love about this song is that when I heard about the new raid, I understood that it will be about The Twelve testing us. And in the end, this song was dedicated to the people of Ul'dah, and as an Uldahn it made me very happy.

I don’t know if I should be embarrassed, but this song eases my thoughts on Death.
It's a wonderful little reflection of how some real world cultures view death. The way FFXIV takes inspiration from these and embelishes them for a fantasy setting works so well. The more I learn about the world of Etheirys the more I want to explore our Earth and learn about its peoples and cultures too.
The way Hydaelyn sits in the Aetherial Sea with her children to release them into the world and welcome them home made me realize that one way to see Death is a mother welcoming her child home and listening to their adventures and she tucks them to sleep. And I was already pretty accepting of the concept of death but this version of Death isn't someone to be feared at all but someone to jump into their arms at the end of the day. Only for the next day to send her child off again into the world
6.0, 6.1, and 6.2: Try not to die while BOPPING! Watch 6.3 adds more to the BOP.
This was definitely a fun Alliance Raid. Bonus points for me since my main WoL's patron deity is Azeyma. Every time I reached her, I would /pray then fight. Not big on fighting her as her worshipper, but gotta do it for the BOP and the Greek/Roman inspired gear.
I mean, she does make it quite clear she *wants* to fight us. Also, it's a good way for my girl to show her chosen goddess just how far she's gotten with her own mastery of flames ;)
Aglaia still remains my favourite endgame raid. I love every aspect of it. Agdistis is a close second but really all of the EW and ShB dungeons for that matter are fantastic.

did you notice the shift between major and minor keys while it switches between 8/8 for major and 6/8 for minor?
I...did not. Was 6/8 the first part of the verse and 8/8 is the part with "Under Arid Sky?" It's awesome nonetheless :)

Minor scale 3/4 (or the analog 6/8) is how arabesques are composed, which is what gives it part of this arab/desert feeling!
One of the best boss themes in the game I've in heard in all the years I've been playing! When I first heard it in the trailer, I got goosebumps!
I love when the song transitions @0:53. Feels good to sing it, gives me chill.
Especially when you just finished fighting Azeyma and move towards the final area. I took my time to stay before move just to admire the scene and waiting until this part of the music played

Due to the personality I envisioned for my character when I made him, his deity is Menphina. But between hers and Nald'Thal's have to say, Nald takes the cake. I was singing with it the moment it started and died because I lost track because it was just too fun. xD

Lots to like about this song and also the video. But to bring up one I don't see mentioned already. At roughly 3:42 come the lyrics "May we all as true equals die". It's also where the stack up to soak mechanic happens.

One of the best designed boss fights IMHO, not difficult once you learn the mechanics but you can appreciate it for the cinematics alone. I've always liked the scales part and wished we get to that part often~

@@ReesesBees obviously, that was part of the implication. Since the first one was Uldah’s patron deities and the second one closely tied to Gridania, if it’s a pattern then Limsa and the Navigator would be next
