I had a great uncle, whom I knew just as a very gentle, soft spoken, quiet old man, kindly. He was old enough to have served in WW I but I never heard anything about it. His life work included publishing a series of papers and books, in the 20's and 30's, about the potential power of the negro vote and the value of using political polls. Later he taught at Howard U. I respected him for this. I attended his funeral, in about 1998, at Arlington. There, he received, I counted them, I think it was at least twenty guns. Since then I keep wondered who he really was.....
I appreciate the fact they brought Val Kilmer back for this. His scene really helped with mavericks character development.

He was a man.
I think that by being supportive of Maverick, Iceman also took on the role of Viper in this movie.
