A couple of starts with the start "hang up" evident. Also a knock can be heard from the area of the RH cover. Not sure if this is normal or not. Only seems present at idle.
I just bought a used 500 predator last night and did a search on CZcams today to see if anyone one else had this Knock- glad I found your video. I feel better now :-)
I have 2012 400 ho, sounds just like that and I bought it brand new. I have over 1000 miles on it and keep her fluids changed regularly and no issues. It's a Fuji engine, they all sound like that. Even after valve adjustments, different octane fuel, long rides. Just keep her fluid change regularly, relax, and ride.
mine is a 2007 500 ho. same noise. changed oil, adjusted valves, changed plug, took the bindex off and started with the pull cord and it still makes it. there is nothing loose and the higher you rev it the faster and louder it gets. I just want know what the heck it is!!
both the starter hang up, and the knocking noice are normal for the polaris engines. My 450 does both and so has every other I have ever heard. I think the engine noise might be piston rattle or atleast thats what it sounds like on mine, idle it up to 1450-1500 rpm and its not near as bad.
Sounds like piston slap to me mine made the same noise, did an upper overhaul with new moly piston and new cylinder on my took care of it sounds awesome now
I have a 2009 scrambler 500 I bought new, it's in excellent condition I keep it well maintained, it makes the same knocking noise, knock knock who's there, rod, rod who ! haha !
I have a 1997 magnum, 2x4, 425, same issue. The noise usually starts soon after I start it up. Oddly, it runs like scalded dog, seems to have lots of compression and is dependable. I bought it a month ago and have spent most that time changing swing arm bushings, fluids, etc. Now that all the other stuff is done, I noticed the noise. A neighbor said, its a Polaris, they make that noise. I think it could be spark knock and that usually just requires a higher octane? Or sea foam. Thoughts?
I have a 550 touring and have this same issue. Just bought it. Anyone know what it is? So nervous to drive it...sounds like the clutch or chain in the transmission?
I can only say that on my 500 I never found a cause and I did alot off checking. It also never changed and never gave me an issue. I used the heck out of it until I sold it after upgrading to a 570 sxs.
The 2019's do the same bought one put 250 miles on it and took it in for the first service. They told me it's normal. To me it sounds like the timing chain is loose but I guess it's there problem if it breaks. Go warrantee and service/repair package lol
It pretty much stays the same, I’ve had that exact noice for at least 10 years and my sportsman and I got 6,000 miles and still starts and runs no problem, I wouldn’t be to worried about it.
i think your exhaust valve is starting to hit the piston. try adjusting the valves its very easy on these. i know its an old video but im trying to help others with my comment.
Never did. It never changed either. I just kept up on the maintenance and enjoyed it until I sold it. Was a 100% reliable machine other than being noisy. Never let me down no matter what the weather.

Today agree. I sold this a while ago with well over a 1000 miles and it never changed and was always 100% reliable.

Thats the Big ass Piston going up and down. Thats why when you rev it you really don't hear it. Every Polaris has the same noise, the new ones anyway.

This is just the primary clutch bushings being a tad on the worn side.
Sel Ect no its not. Noise is on right side when sitting on machine
Mine dose it help?
Found a reason?

This is old, but the 500s in particular made a racket. Fuji engines, which is the 425 500 all those, were tough af, but they made a racket.
my friends have 2 and they both do the same thing.

I bought a 2019 new off showroom floor about a year ago and it does the same thing. Yours still running good? Anything I should worry about?
hey mine did same thing too 2014 570 efi engine! no noise cold start but start doing it when warm...
lechasseur321 same here, find out what it is?
my scrambler has the same noise, i don't like it but it seems like they all do it, let me know if you fing anything out!
Does this noise progress? I have the same and try to diagnose it.

Mine makes this exact same noise
Its normal its just the starter bindex I have an 2004 and makes the same noise.
running low oil sounds like that .............same thing happen to me so....top off the oil and prime it .......
So This Is Normal Can It Makes Me Not Want To Ride Mine
