The Fiat Panda 100hp proves SLOW cars can be HUGE FUN

  • With a 1.4 litre engine and 100bhp, the Panda is more 'warm hatch' than 'hot hatch'. It is my no means a fast car, but it does prove a very important point: when it comes to having fun while driving, the SENSATION of speed, is much more important than actually going fast. And when it comes to price & running costs, there might not be another car capable of making you smile so much for so cheap.

This guy's a bit of a snob. It's really practical, the fire engine IS reliable and has a lovely community and is a hoot to drive. And let's be honest, someone who drives this wouldn't be interested in owning a VAG (I've got a tiny willy) DSG fart machine.
Also, euro road trip is exactly what it's for. Switchbacks in France are this cars playground. 💪🏼

But 100bhp in a car that size isn’t underpowered tho,in the 90’s most 1.6i 4 door cars were 100hp and adequately powered, many new city cars built in 2018 have like 60hp and do fine in cities and cruise at 80mph, these fiats are like a modern day XR2 but way cheaper to run.

Hmm... not reliable? Definitely not true. Not cool? I think many would argue a quick Fiat Panda that could teach a few 'premium' brands a thing or two about fun and handling constitutes to a cool car. These things are known for being hella reliable and great fun..

A pity the reviewer has an outdated opinion of Fiats. I’ve had a Panda great reliable little car. The Bravo which I had for 8 years never gave an ounce of trouble. And the same can be said of my current 500X. 5 years in. Get them serviced once a year like any other make. That’s all you have to to have reliable car.

I have a 100HP in storage at the moment and I miss driving it every day. I remember meeting my mate on my way to work one morning (he drove a 110hp EcoBoost Fiesta at the time) and he simply couldn't keep up with the acceleration of the little car. It is great fun! And the Sport button allows for better throttle response and more responsive steering. A great, fun and affordable car. Great video!
But yeah, the ride quality is arse.

    • @davidelliott5843

Sport button reduces the steering power assistance and makes the throttle more aggressive. I never use it and dont miss it.

  • @redroutemaster

Had a 100HP a few years now...though the middle pipe has just started blowing at the flexi section and the original Magnetti Morelli back box has layers of steel peeling of it at 14 years old the exhaust has done well.
As KA’s and the 500’s use the same block, exhaust, suspension with different tweeks per manufacturer, Fiat Ford have made a great base to work on these cars.
Only a few weeks back I see a mk2 KA with a 595 Abarth exhaust on it..
The 100 is a bit unforgiving with the huge amount of potholes on costly, poorly kept British roads gives a harsh ride but hit that sport button, feel the steering firm up and the extra power, great cornering with discs alround makes for a fun drive.
Be gutted when mine has to go, 3 owners from new, 140k still pulls like a train..deffo a future classic and prices are rising as these 100’s weren’t mass produced.

I have a 100HP it's good, but the really hard suspension definitely compromises the car. I feel its a great shame they dod not fit a version of the 500 rear axle which has an integral anti-roll bar and softer springs. I fitted 500 springs to my 100HP with rubber cushions on both ends and Fiat coupe bump stops. The slight increase in body roll was more than offset by the back end no longer skipping from bump to bump.
Fit 195-50-15 tyres. You'll now have an accurate speedo and the ride is significantly better.
Power is an issue on fast A roads like A303. It cries out for another 20bhp. A 500 turbo version would be awesome.
The wheels are pretty but cannot deal with British roads. I swapped mine out for pepper pot steels and small "top hat" style centre trims. They suit the car and don't get bent out of shape.
The clutch is expensive do not get aught out by the gearbox input oil seal. Mine leaked and ruined a clutch within 10,000 miles. Always change that seal. It's a faff but don't skimp.
Exhausts are expensive and the back end gets VERY hot. Get a 2" stainless system with a long mid box and small end box.
The 70bhp Multijet diesel makes 95 with a remap. The 75 goes to 110bhp. I'm not sure what that does to the gearbox but it sounds like serious fun.

Drive using the vanishing distance rule and you'll embarrass the average Golf GTI driver. Accelerate when you can see the distance getting longer, ease off when it's getting shorter. Don't get too close to slower cars so you can overtake by sweeping past. Boy racers get too close to the slower car and even a Golf GTI wont have the Tesla acceleration to overtake. You'll just sweep past both of them - even in a 1.2 Panda. and they take miles to catch up.

What if I told you that the 1.4 FIRE engine is actually the most solid small engine out there with literally no issues if you maintain it properly. The rest of the video is great, but I hate that this is always brought up even though it is completely false and unjustified.

Fiat engines are used is a bunch of other makes. But it is the typical bad habit of people talking bullshit without having a clue what they are saying. It makes me laugh. Hahaha
Doest mater what people say. What matter is the figures we see. The facts. A big percentage of rich people all have a Fiat in their garage.. Fiat has the most sold car in europe and the second most sold in history. So many prizes of car of the year and best engine award and much many more.

James, your "friend" should though in all likelihood won't be "scarlett" with shame at his poor attitude. He says at the start these cars are available for around £2K, then goes on to be critical of the quality of the interior plastics. This was a budget car when new. He needs an attitude adjustment before he needs a spine.
So "friend", what do you own and drive, that you can be so scathing of your pal and his choice of car?.
