Crimson Peak is my favorite movie! While the idea of Crimson being the Del Toro Mansion movie is really fascinating and awesome, Del Toro did stress repeatedly that Crimson was more adult and that the HM movie would be FUN with caps while still being intense and scary. Del Toro also wrote Crimson in 2006 after he made Pans Labyrinth. It took a long time to find a studio (Legendary) that wanted to make the film with Del Toro. Having said all this, as a HM fan I'd love a gothic horror/romance HM movie rather than a goofy comedy.

It's kind of sad that won't get to see Guillermo Del Toro's vision of The Haunted Mansion.

I agree, but this is as close as we'll ever get. I have not much fate in a sanitized funny version that is being planned.

@@storiesfromthemansion4387 Was the version made? I wish Disney didn't always have to censor their work, especially when it comes to their more mature material. It would really appeal to their teen and adult audiences.

I loved watching Crimson Peak when it came out, a love letter to classic Gothic horror stories with del Toro's classic "astonishing visual symbolism" details. If this was the rumored del Toro Haunted Mansion script, rather than the 2023 film we got... sorry, I will admit that I cannot visualize it. This is likely because of the R rating and lots of subtle details that younger viewers will absolutely miss. Then again, movies go through several drafts before we see the finished product on screen.
P.S. Fun detail: The Upstate New York location, late 19th century time period, and Edith Cushing's social class creates a high likelihood that she attended the Emma Willard Female seminary, now called Emma Willard School, for her higher education. I attended this same school during my own high school years, and during my 5th reunion, I found out that an English professor had taken her class to see Crimson Peak as part of their Gothic lit class. I was all smiles during the remainder of her class.

I like this take. Whether or not the script was reworked from a Haunted Mansion draft, the inspiration is certainly prominent in the film.

Awesome video. I've been thinking about this idea for some time, that Crimson Peak was in fact Del Toro's HM.

I complete agree with your theory! Thank you for this. However, for me, as Michael O'Sullivan of The Washington Post wrote, "The film by the stylish fantasist Guillermo del Toro looks marvelous, but has a vein of narrative muck at its core."

I couldn't agree more, great production design, terrible script, but that's more of a Hollywood thing nowadays, let's not forget the 2003 Haunted Mansion movie...great production design, costumes, sfx, and even score, but terrible script and cast.

  • @felipedelgadosalinas2257

Excellent video, especially because Victorian-Gothic architecture has always seemed exquisitely relaxing to me, visually speaking, also your pronunciation of the nickname "Del Toro" is simply refined

I would personally adore if Disney turned The Haunted Mansion, into a series of movies..
Mystic Manor would be a more fun and childish movie..
Phantom Manor the Classic gothic tragedy, and then we could have the main Haunted Mansion itself being a middle ground between the two Horror and Family friendly versions..
Not to mention they could make a historical thriller/Ghost movie with the original story of Captain Gore and Priscilla.. maybe even tie it to the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies for a double reference!
It’s very unfortunate that they most likely won’t continue with making Haunted Mansion movies. 😞

When in film school in New Orleans, I was already writing a screenplay of the Haunted mansion - when I heard Del Torro was also doing one. Then Crimson Peak came out and I got a ticket to see it along with others, because apparently, he rented one of the theatres because the surrounding theatres wasn't scheduled to play it! Thank you, Sir! Crimson peak I figured was what he decided to do as well.
Flash forward to now! There IS one being filmed but looks so far nothing like what the ride, AGAIN
I know Del Toro is a true FAN, but I am dubious! Thinking like you as well about the writer.
I also found out that we both had some similar ideas in both Del Toro vision and mine. And I hope that what he talked about will be what happens and NOT like the one before or I'm afraid Disney won't do it again.
I LOVE CRIMSON PEAK!!!! And I found your site by glad chance. Thank you for making this site!!!!

You might want to have a flashing lights warning at the beginning of the video because I can see this causing people to have seizures due to the flashing lights.

Crossover between the Haunted Mansion and Clive Barker’s Hellraiser. What might that be like?

I want a dark version of haunted mansion the funniness in the Disney version with Eddie Murphy ruined it for me. The intro of it with the masquerade was the best part of the whole film

Make a fun scary movie, but not bloody and gory. Set in the past with flashbacks from the 1700's. Not a kid movie. PG 13
