      @@surveysays8335 1445 actually for the one as reviewed the first one that pops up doesn't have the optional headrest. And the gesture isn't even their best chair the Leap is. But I would say the Amia and the Series 2 are both also entirely quality chairs and sell for like half money. Though truth be told I'd always suggested buying chairs like this from a refurb place. Businesses will often buy fleets off these chairs take them off of taxes so they are free. Use them several years, and then sell them to a refurb place for next to nothing (and still be happy cause they just sold something that they got to write off on taxes so they made money on the chairs long term). The refurb places will throw on fresh padding and cloth and resell them often for less than half money. You can get a fully kitted Leap V2 pretty regular for sub 600 with shipping included. You can get Leap V1's pretty often in the 400 dollar range restored to like new condition.

    I found a Steelcase Leap Plus at the Goodwill for $13 a year~ ago. To think I had no clue how amazing of a chair it was, and was more excited about finding a Singer sewing machine for $10. Well, I soon found out that I had just paid $13 for an $1800 chair. It's a hideous kind of forest green color with a stain down the middle of it, but that's a price I'm willing to pay for the price I paid. I removed the cover to the seat (it's like a really tough material that's cinched around some kind of really dense memory foam with a cord pulling it taught on the underside.) I was able to get it off and I hand washed the cover outside with the hose and some soap, and then I treated it with some antimicrobial disinfectant. Looks like a brand new chair, and it's so freaking comfortable.

    • @psihius
      @psihius Před 2 lety +9

      Find a deal in your area - they should be able to refurbish the chair - change the fabrics and all that stuff. These things are built to last for a decade+ and it is normal (from what my local dealer told me) for the companies to send in their chairs for fabric replacement or proper cleaning instead of just buying new once. So yeah, you just found something that will last you a long time for, basically, free :D

  • @terryshaw13
    @terryshaw13 Před 2 lety +9

    Watching Jay while sitting in my Steelcase Amia, they ARE worth the money. Also a tip for anyone shocked/turned off by the price, watch marketplace for office clearouts. These are a common chair in banks and law firms and most offices. Often times you can find one for CHEAP because the contractor was told to "throw them out" and has them listed on marketplace for like $50. That being said, if you have the money a new one would be amazing! They have so many colors and choices!
    Also, when scared off by the price, you spend over $1000 on your gaming pc never mind monitors, mics gear etc. But your chair is literally the only thing that you sit on. So getting something solid that actually supports you, your body will thank you. It will also probably be the last chair you buy.

    I bought a Steelcase Gesture chair less than 2 years ago and the hydraulic cylinder started going bad. Steelcase's customer service and warranty is the best I've ever experienced. I emailed them and explained what was happening and provided my original order number. All they wanted was a photo or video of the issue. For all those complaining about price - at least in the UK, this comes with a 12 year warranty, and will likely last well beyond that given the build quality. When you work out the cost per year, it really makes a lot more sense. Granted you need the cash to drop on it straight away but I'd guess the cost per year of its useful life will be a lot lower than other, cheaper chairs.

The Steelcase chair looks great and if I ever needed to upgrade, I would give it a serious look. The only downside I can see is the fabric seat. I really like the mesh fabric of the HM Aeron. But I agree with Jay, the most important piece of furniture you will ever buy is the chair you spend most of your time in. Then would moved around and put one leg up, then the the other leg up as Jay demonstrated sitting on his leg. Then started sitting on it Indian style at my desk. Eventually I ended up sitting on it Indian style in the middle of the floor without touching anything while playing Xbox games. It strengthened my core muscles so much it improved my posture and I was measured an inch taller at the next weigh in. I think the key thing on the sticker shock is these chairs come with some seriously long warranties and they do seem to last that long like the Herman miller i think has a 12 year warrant so your paying a bit more than $100 a year for the chair. This chair has a life time warranty, getting 10 years out of a high quality chair is not a wild thing to think of if you get to a price point of $130 a year basically its just the up front cost that is scary.
    TLDR the bang for your buck is emense for these chair as you generally are going to spend more on chair if you replacement when they wear out.

  • @Silverhks
    @Silverhks Před 2 lety +3

    I tried one of these and ended up returning it. The big thing I couldn't get over was the fact that the seat didn't lean back when reclining. Also the headrest stuck out too far forward for me to find it comfortable when not reclined, so I kept it turned around out of the way the rest of the time. The first of those is subjective and the second one may not be a problem for some people (and you can get it without the headrest anyways). I found it to be great in every other way, it just didn't suit me and my preferences. I would definitely recommend trying it out if you're willing to spend this much on a chair, and the manufacturer has a 30-day free return policy so you don't lose anything if you don't like it.

    • @PastorwithoutaPulpit
      @PastorwithoutaPulpit Před 2 lety

      From all the research I've been doing on these the arms remain rock solid after the longest I've found is two years of use. The good part is this is an American based company with a 12 year bumper to bumper warranty on these chairs. They even warranty the fabric which is pretty much unheard of. They also pay the shipping from what I've been able to find. I just ordered a Gesture for myself. I justify it with up until now the most I'd spend on a chair was $500 or less with $500 being the most expensive I've bought which is my Secret Labs Titan XL. I've had it two years and am just not completely happy with it. The seats a bit hard for my tastes and the back just doesn't fit me right. The wife however loves it so she'll be inheriting it. About the price budget, before this Titan I've had to buy a new chair almost every year. So even though the Gesture I just ordered was $1258 with all the bells and whistles, (head rest and added lumbar), as well as Indiana state tax. That would mean my budget for yearly replacement over the next 12 years would be $104.83 per chair. I can tell you from experience at that price level you're not getting anything built well enough to last or very comfortable for prolonged sitting. That's something a lot of people don't think about when pricing anything really is how long will it last before needing replacement. With Steelcase it's a 12 year warranty from a company located here in the States and from what I've found their chairs last much longer than that. Hope all this word salad helped in some way and I truly hope you find the chair that will work for you...
