The Steelcase Gesture is the Best Home Office Chair in its Class

  • Working in tech, I've had the good fortune of using nice (read: expensive) office chairs in every company I've worked at. The Herman Millers. The Steelcases. All the models in between. I've used them extensively. The Steelcase Gesture takes the cake.
    Things to Note!
    • If you buy the chair directly from Steelcase, it'll come pre-assembled. You literally just pull it out of the box.
    • This chair is heavy (in a good way)! If you plan on carrying it upstairs you might need some help.

    This chair is a true godsend, had the chance to try it out for a couple of week. It's amazing how much of my backpain and shoulder pain started to disappear, especially because I suffer from slight scoliosis too. I still can't believe that most of my pain was due to a shitty "gaming" chair...
    The adjustable arm rests are probably my second favorite feature, they help me a lot with stability when it comes to holding my pen and drawing as a digital artist.
    Can highly recommend this chair, though I would also recommend the headrest if one is on the taller side (I'm 183cm or 6ft in American units [I think?]). It never gets in the way and is great to have for gaming sessions when I'm just reclining, turning off my mind and relaxing a little.
    I'm glad I watched your video, the point about the scoliosis convinced me now to buy this chair. Thanks for the help!

      This is amazing to hear! Thanks for letting me (and others) know. I feel like slight scoliosis is more common than we think, but because it's hard to tell who has it, no one really talks about it. And also, I feel like there's a stigma with bringing it up in general.

      @@romyromes A slight case of curvature in the spine is indeed very normal.
      Have drawn countless of nude people, and one of the first things one can notice is how everyone is leaning to one sight (most of the time the right). What I can't wrap my head around yet is how some go through life with a literal S-shaped/upside-down-L-shaped back and show no signs of experiencing any pain whatsoever; and then there is me who suffers from a slight, barely noticeable curvature and has occasional problems because of it lmfao.

    I bought an aeron remastered coming from a napa leather gaming chair. I live in humid Singapore and when I work, I usually don't switch on the AC.
    I get sweaty thighs when sitting on my leather gaming chairs.
    As of the aeron, the posturefit sl, I dont feel it because I was too used with using a lumbar roll on my gaming chair, if u used a lumbar roll before, u definitely feel it supporting your back. So when I switch to the aeron, I thought the posturefit was spoilt because I seriously can't feel the support.
    Anyways, the aeron is good for my situation because of the mesh. I have a fan blowing behind my back and I can feel the wind and the mesh will cool my body down compare to my gaming chair where its totally hot.
    So yea apart from the hype and design of an aeron, I will believe for my situation, any full mesh chairs will be good since mesh is highly breathable and I work in a hot humid environment.

    • @romyromes
      @romyromes  Před 3 lety

      Hey! That’s a steal. The Lumbar support feature basically is “...more support” that can be adjusted up or down. For me, I haven’t had to adjust it at all - I was happy with how it came out of the box. Same with my car - I’ve adjusted the lumbar support to be as “least supportive” as possible and haven’t changed it since. Everyone is different but I don’t think the lumbar support is a deal breaker - if you can get your hands on a Gesture for 350 without Lumbar support then 🙌🏽.
      When I first purchased the Gesture I had it in my living room because I needed to clear out my office before moving it in. I remember watching TV and playing PlayStation on it thinking “I kinda want to get rid of my couch and use chairs as my normal means of couch potatoing”. Yea... except Steelcase customer support is a joke. They sent me a crooked Gesture with a min. seat height of 19" (They state 16") and when I asked the dealer, they said their entire lot was at 19". The official Steelcase representatives basically called me an idiot and said I didn't know how to use a tape measure. All I wanted was a replacement chair with the proper stated specs, but they refused and just took the chair and gave me my money back. Awesome chair, horrible customer support. They just don't care. At this point, I'd rather sit on the floor than support than company.

    This chair was fairly easy to put together, the instructions were clear and I was about to follow along with no issues at all. It took me about 20 minutes to assemble. czcams.com/users/postUgkx5hPALGI87E991DRmXev8PUFJGrrRcONS I did stuff the back of the chair with a pillow so it wouldn’t be so hollow after taking all the pieces out but that’s just a personal preference. I also added a pillow for lumbar support because although this is a great chair and is comfortable, it’s not necessarily the best if you’re sitting 10+ hrs a day wfh but in all honesty for the price, I didn’t mind at all. It looks great in my space and easily adjusts the height when needed.

    Sorry, but mesh IS the way to go. What other chair can you shotgun a beer in without giving a damn?
    I am sure there are more comfortable chairs, but I don't want to have to worry about getting my $1000+ chair dirty. Just wish there was more competition because in terms of mesh it seems like it is basically Aeron or bust.

      Great point. I remember having a few co-workers sweat stain their Leap chairs. It's not a Leap problem of course - this will show up on any cloth type fabric.
      The Aeron is definitely more forgiving.

      Steelcase is planning on releasing the Karman, but that just looks like their take on Cosm lol.
      Aeron is still the king of mesh chairs, but the Cosm and Mirra 2 are fantastic alternatives.

    Funny, but looking at you sitting in the chair, it does sorta look like you're "sliding" forward. Not necessarily tilted forward, but like if the chair was glass, you'd slide off it over a 5 minute period of time. I think you need more light to see the color. Probably best to tell us what the actual Steelcase color name is. A little north of $800?? Did you get it used?

    • @romyromes
      @romyromes  Před 3 lety

      The description has the colors. If it looks like I’m sliding it’s likely because I’m fidgety + tech joggers have me sliding everywhere. Got it new during a promotional event.

    What is it you like about the Gesture compared to the Leap?

    • @phobiedufromage2433
      @phobiedufromage2433 Před 3 lety

      Gesture is more ergonomic arms and headrest are better than leap v2 its also more heavy than the leap but in terms of comfort i like leap more seat and arms are softer

  • @StardustLegacyFighter

    Embody's overall back support is unmatched, the Gesture promotes slouching way too much and is actually less supportive than the Leap v2.

      @@ThatSameer You lose out on the 12 year warranty that this chair would normally have.
      In North America, you'd get the full coverage and it doesn't matter whether you're buying Steelcase chairs for your office or home.
      In the UK and other EMEA regions, Steelcase reduced the warranty to only 5 years for non-business customers, which is such a scummy thing to do.
      This is why I opted for the Herman Miller Aeron and honestly I haven't looked back since.

      @O G This is why I ended up getting the Titan XL. No matter how you look at it, if you are in a chair for hours at a time it doesn't matter what kind of chair it is. Your body will feel it, and the stiffness will set in no matter what chair you have. At least when I tilt my head back I have support there and it doesn't flop all the way back.
