    • @OneBadAssDJ
      @OneBadAssDJ Před 4 lety +1

      slincide I like DJing from a laptop and not some small screen typing in songs with 1 finger. Denon’s engine software is complete garbage. Traktor is by far the best software of the market.

    • @OneBadAssDJ
      @OneBadAssDJ Před 4 lety

      @slincide I used it for a week and gave it back. I own CDJ-2000NXS2 decks and typing on the screen sucks. Nothing is faster than typing on a laptop period.

    • @OneBadAssDJ
      @OneBadAssDJ Před 4 lety +2

      @slincide I use Serato, Rekordbox, Rekordbox DJ, Traktor, Virtual DJ. Traktor blows them all away. Been DJIng on a laptop since 1999. I can see your a newb asking questions when you don't know nothing about software or hardware.

    • @OneBadAssDJ
      @OneBadAssDJ Před 4 lety +1

      slincide I do have a attitude, but I have all the best equipment. If I don’t have the best equipment, I either used it or had it and got rid of it. I’m by no means a Denon hater because I love all Denon’s equipment since 1993. Their older equipment has always been the best. As far as their newer equipment, I can’t say the same. Not saying the Denon Prime 4 would not be hands down the best controller out there due to their XLR Outputs, XLR Booth output, XLR zone outputs & dual XLR Mic inputs, but their software is horrible. I just really wish all these hardware companies would play nice with all these software companies so all the hardware will work with all the software. Unfortunately that’s not the case. I can give the Denon Prime 4 a thumbs up because of this reason. I rather have my CDJ’s with Rekordbox any day over Denon engine software.

    Great review. I have a few questions: 1. Does the BPM detect the song accurately? Can you transpose the key of a song? Can you use it without the laptop? How do you manage your song collections? Thanks.

    • @rogerbaxter1695
      @rogerbaxter1695 Před 3 lety

      BMP is hit or miss. Yes you can transpose keys using the right rotor beside the little screen on the controller. Click it in and the Key will light up on the little screen. The use the shift key and tern the same rotor right or left...it will show what key it went to on the little screen or even on the software on your computer.. For track management I personally feel iTunes Is your best bet with Traktor...I use the smart playlist creator there. You will have to enable third part connection in iTunes settings to connect iTunes to Traktor...hope this helps.

      They've fixed the glitch now. I bought a S4 Mk3 a few weeks ago and the headphone volume and quality is superb. Apparently they've upped the signal by 60dB. So, it must have been really quiet before.

      @@as680783 thank you very much for your answer. I am still considering buying it. Do you think it is still a good product in almost 2023?
      What attracts me is the fact that works as standalone mixer and his portability (I don't live in my country and I think i will move in the next years) but the fact that it is been outside for quite long makes me hesitate.

  • @richarquis
    @richarquis Před 4 lety +2

    How does it fare to completely turn off sync, beatgrids and everything, and use the motorized platters in TT mode in order to just beat mix by ear? I learned on 1200's and vinyl, and I really miss that, I find sync mixing unnatural, and it's also just a pain in the ass to set all the grids just to mess around. If I wanna do a tight copy of a practiced or thought out mix, ok, maybe, but I still prefer to do things as I learned.
    Do the new platters really serve that style well, to just chuck a track in and mix on the fly with no prep? If so, then it would suit the way I like to work.

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  Před 4 lety +1

      It will feel a bit different to an actual turntable of course, but this controller is the best option if you wish to beat match the classic way. The motorised jog wheels feel very natural and think you'll enjoy using them in the way you want, you can apply the same motions and techniques with great feeling as you would with vinyl. Worth trying out for sure!

      You can still use S4mk3 with timecodes and have this vinyl feel. Haptic drive is something new, I'm thinking about buying this. Need to ask getinthemix how much will they offer me for Z2,X1 and two TTX turntables in exchange for S4mk3.

    • @richarquis
      @richarquis Před 4 lety +1

      @@baniakrulez Yeah, I could use turntables and timecode vinyl, but the S4Mk3 takes up maybe half the space. My workspace is already covered with keyboard/push/mixer/volcas/beatstep/nova... Adding physical tt's would require a lot of extra space, all on the flat area. An S4 would take half the space and could be placed on an angled shelf climbing up the wall. That would never work with vinyl. So many things to choose between, it's sometimes hard to maintain priorities.

    So which one is best? Denon MCX8000 or the S4 Mk. 3

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  Před 5 lety +1

      They are quite different units. The MCX8000 can run in a 2-channel standalone mode and works with Serato DJ whereas the Kontrol S4 MK3 is exclusively a controller and is designed for Traktor Pro 3.
      The Kontrol S4 is a bit sleeker and newer with a more standardised layout, plus the jog wheels feel really nice. If you want to be able to run 2-decks without a needing a computer then consider the MCX8000, but for DJing with a computer using it as a controller we'd recommend the Kontrol S4 MK3.

  • @YakAttack915
    @YakAttack915 Před 5 lety

    Really loving how this integrates with traktor, but worried about the size of the platters and unit as a whole. Using a DDJ RZ but Rekordbox isn't giving me the depth of customization I want. What do you think about the feel of the jog wheels and the work flow with a smaller deck. Thx

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  Před 5 lety +1

      The jog wheels themselves feel great with the haptic-drive, and as seen in the video you really get to customize the resistance you feel from them. The overall smaller form-factor is beneficial from a portability standpoint and when you're using the unit it's not something you think about. Of course, portability/space occupation may not be that important of a factor for you. If extra creativity and customization is something you're after though we'd definitely say the S4 is worth checking out.

    just bought this from getinthemix and straight out the box i have had issues faders not showing the right tempo when loading new track until you moved the fader then the tempo would catch up, screen freeze on the info screens and all button on the controller had a 3 to 4 second delay. and traktor software still has issues with loading a new track that has stopped but traktor says track is still playing unable to load new track. this for me is not reliable for any professional set up. and so far ive spent over a £1000 on there gear. really disappointed

    • @baniakrulez
      @baniakrulez Před 4 lety +4

      Recalibrate faders in Traktor 3 options. PC need to be a bit adjusted to work with dj software. Freezing might be related to latency setting, processor, antivirus loads of variables. I recommend a group on facebook 'traktor scrach'. I got traktor for years with Z2 and kontrol X1 it works flawless.

    • @baniakrulez
      @baniakrulez Před 4 lety +1

      With track playing there is option which prevents loading new track when a current track is playing. It is for safety to not accidentaly load a track when you playing one, untick this in options or just stop track in a deck and load next one.

    Maybe you guys can help me. I want to upgrade to a 4 channel mixer and my choice will be the Traktor S4 mk3 or the Pioneer DDJ-1000. Recordbox DJ is the more advanced software in my opinion. But I would also like to use samples and put some effects on them as well. I know it is easy to handle with the S4 because you play them just on Deck C and D. But can u also do this with an DDJ-1000?

    • @GetintheMix
      @GetintheMix  Před 4 lety +3

      You're misinformed that Rekordbox is more advanced, If you're looking at running effects and samples/stems, Traktor is almost certainly the way to go. You also have the opportunity to expand upon your hardware with Traktor with something such as the F1 to run alongside your S4, giving you further flexibility for running stems and samples.
