  • Madison, Indiana is located about halfway between Cincinnati and Louisville along the Ohio River. Clifty Falls State Park is in town and it has 4 different water falls inside the park. Madison is town that stands out in the otherwise poverty stricken, Ohio River Valley, as it shows what value historic preservation can do for a place to make it stand out from the rest. Not only is it a nice, charming small town along a river, but there are hardly any abandoned buildings throughout the town. Madison also has a history that rivals most other major Midwestern cities. Towards the end of the video I visit Hanover, Indiana which is home to Hanover College.

    Keep following the magic. Great kick in the butt for us visually impaired folks who have driven these roads and can no longer. The way you are shooting this is easy on glaucoma eyes. I can almost literally restore memories of what it looked like over time. Then add that to what you are shooting and get a deeper appreciation for these parts of the world. Once again the character of the people is still there. Cheers!

    I mostly have watched your channel for Illinois, but am glad I watched this one. Much of Kentucky has interesting scenery, especially as you get further east. The hills & curves along Indiana 43 between Cincinnati, IN & Spencer, IN may interest you. I experienced putting my car in neutral near 0 at the top of one those hills & got to 40mph before having to break for the next curve. Also, I've heard Hoosiers call Brown County Indiana at its most scenic.

    Nice work Chris! I spent four years at Hanover College in the 70's (avoiding getting drafted, btw) and I was amazed at how little the Madison/Hanover area has changed. Your video techniques and presentation skills have greatly improved over the past year! Keep up the good work!
    Another Indiana area your viewers might find interesting is Lafayette/West Lafayette. Huge industrial infrastructure (Caterpillar, Subaru, Alcoa, etc. etc.), a huge university (Purdue) and a really attractive area in general. Indiana stands in contrast to the decay and destruction of Illinois due to the vast differences in taxing structures.

    For those who boat the Ohio River, especially in the roughly 160 miles between Cincinnati and Louisville, it's a popular place to make a day run to spend a night or two. There are a few really nice restaurants in Madison that are better than bar food pubs. In the Cincinnati and Louisville region, the farm to table movement is pretty strong and there are a few places in Madison that offer interesting and quality foods of this sort. The river festival does bring a number of boaters to town too. As you mentioned, there are a number of interesting shops in the downtown area too. All these are an easy walk from the boat docks on the river. It is a pleasant place to make a river stop.

      I grew up in western IL near Burlington Iowa then in Peoria IL. Both river cities of 25k & 250k metro area...My Grandmother lived in Madison for yrs. From the 60s or earlier up until 95 when she passed away. My dad lived there off & on for many years. I've visited Madison several times on holidays and lived a few months there in 93....It's actually a pretty nice town. The geographic layout is similar to Burlington. I'd say there's more to do in Burlington 25k but also more crime. Madison does have a really nice vibe to it & clean, low crime, little warmer than Burlington. But not as much to do. Sometimes I wish I could buy my Grandmother's then became father's house back, that's on Ross St. He sold it for much less than it was worth. I wouldn't mind living there if still had friends or relatives there.

      You could sort of call it "two towns." The part of Madison below the hills and close to the river, is the oldest part, dating back to 1809. The part "up on the hill," as we say here, has only been an official part of Madison since the early 1950s, when it was annexed. Little local history for you there.

    • @sonyafox3271
      @sonyafox3271 Před 6 měsíci

      More headaches than what it’s worth and it would create a lot of problems no one wants, one if you separate Madison into different towns, first of that would cause them to have 2 Separate Governments with 2 different set of laws, and 2 different set of police! I live in Greendale right next to Lawrenceburg,both are part of the same county and have the same zip, 2 Separate Governments 2 different Set of Police even though they kind of team up together, then, not to mention it would raise the amount you pay on taxes, this is just a few things, you have no knowledge about! Greendale and Lawrenceburg are more separate from each other and not to mention the other smaller towns that are close by, but Madison isn’t, it’s all what makes one nice town and makes it unique, so why would you want to see it be any different, it’s also what more than likely keeps it nice and peaceful! If you really think about it, it also changes the amount of funding and help they can get from government agencies, it could end up being a whole host of issues that would have created more trouble than what it’s worth!
