      this has to be the type of boat ever made, these foil wind mono-hull sailboat will be, IMO the norm some day, i can totally see these kinds of boats someday take over the global cruiser market. someday foil wind foil boats will be a common sight on the waters of tomorrow. this kind of foil boat is by far the cheapest kind of high speed boat you could trereticly built, you dont need hyper complex drive mechanisms to go full speed, you just need a complex hull and hydrofoil automated control. with that you could make this an easily marketable commercial succes. im certain we are seeing the birth of a new age of ocean travel. even for rich people this is far cheaper in the long run when you consider the cost of fuel on high speed full size yachts. not to mention nothing is as comfortable on the water as just not even touching it! its just a matter of time before we will see such incredible new boats coming out!

    • @higamerXD
      @higamerXD Před 2 lety +1

      hell even better! if this can be upscaled enough it could even start making mega cargo ships a more concievable idea, even so huge changes and lots of time will be spend before it exists but this will slowly change the world. this can make ocean sailing the norm for everyone out on the water, IF the tech can be made viable enough for that sort of thing. id say it will take 20 years before we will see a cargo aplication but before then within 5 we will see the first big ship foil foil boats

    • @higamerXD

      even just picturing a cruise ship sized vessel just flying over the water, it will be the most majestic thing we ever create on the oceans, someday it will be the pride of the world to just look at something that great, like a new age of the great ocean liners, revived in such a far more economic and even more majestic way!

      Amazing. Unfortunate about the commentators trying so hard to keep up the interest after the start...
      As soon as the boat in front is in front they are controlling the course AND the boat behind them. They know exactly how far and how many manoeuvers the opponent has to do within the box and can more than estimate how far ahead they are.
      Trying to make spectators believe that a there was a tacking duel on !!! LOL.
      USA knew all along that NZ had minimum one more gybe than themselves to do to get to the finish line so all they did was cover NZ.
      Only tactics here was when NZ split for another side of the course, but there again they were still being tightly covered by USA.
      Match racing is dead.
      These boats depend on the other boat breaking gear or a catastrophic mistake to ever win a race they have lost the start to.

    I always thought the shaking helm of American Magic showed some sort of design flaw. Clearly there is/was something wrong with the way the helm was setup, as sometimes it shock so violently Dean struggled to hold on to it, and at times it looked like he would try to turn the helm, but it wouldn't respond correctly.
    These are the sorts of issues faced by aircraft when trying to perform maneuvers at different speeds and different angles of attack; often getting a plane to turn tightly means having to point the nose at the ground, and even then the stick can refuse to move a lot, as the forces rapidly build on the control surfaces.
    What has surprised me throughout the series is no one commenting on the shaky helm of American Magic, and that Dean never said anything about it, either. I guess they were furiously trying to fix that issue, and many others besides - but it all went wrong.
    Better luck next time, NY Yacht Club! Come back and try again - because ETNZ are gonna win the auld mug again!

    All that effort and expense just to try and make monos competitive again. You don't want to hit something with a dagger board, but these foils, must be more vulnerable and could they ever be used offshore in a decent swell???? I don't see how. Their amazing, but very vain.

    Im new to following this sport. Historically, have these boats always be so prone to having technical problems?

    • @cluelessbeekeeping1322
      @cluelessbeekeeping1322 Před 3 lety

      Dude, these are like brand new space ships from another planet. Boats like this have never been raced. This is all new. There is no 'historical' data for these kinds of boats. But, for the most part, no, not technically prone. But in the past they didn't use electricity to power stuff like foils.

      One thing for sure....it isn't the crew pedalling away to operate the hydraulics. No groans there...they have been measured to be amongst the very fittest athletes on the planet.
      I would say it is the linkages to the foil lifting arms.
