    I have several of these cards. I started collecting (again) around 1980. I had a collection as a kid, mostly 60's cards, and gave them away. I stumbled upon a card show as a 30 year old and I couldn't believe what I had given away. So I started collecting again and built up a decent collection. 🙃 Some day I am going to get motivated and go through them and sort them out. Maybe find out what they are worth. I do have a sentimental attachment to them.

    The Jack Buck call was good. But nothing could compare to watching that game live in 1988, when I was 9. Hearing Vin Scully build that at bat pitch by pitch until it's ultimate conclusion of Gibson's homerun. I still get goosebumps when I see that ball jump off of Gibson's bat on that 3-2 backdoor slider.

I got a sales and use tax license, started buying boxes at wholesale and sold at card shows, bringing $800 a day! - 1983 O-Pee-Chee Tony Gwynn
    - 1983 O-Pee-Chee Ryne Sandberg
    Both of those are rarer in PSA 9 or above, and often command prices over US counterparts.

    stumbled onto this video today. My Youngest Son and I started collecting these cards in the early 80's. I cant remember the exact year we started, now after watching this video i want to get them out. They have been in storage for years. I dont even know if my Son still has his. He ended up joining the service in the early 90's, at a much older age than most young ppl join. He did very well, he was with the 3rd Infantry division who first went into Iraq for that war. He took care of all the weapons for them, and his vehicle he rode in, armored, was kept back in the line, and well protected. He came home eventually, but was in one of time/life magazine called 21 days to Iraq.
    He then started teaching weaponry at our local base here in Wi. He earned many certificates, and was trained in many different jobs he held. He had framed certificates that covered all of one wall in his large study. He really enjoyed teaching there at that base. But the work he had to do in Iraq caught up with him, and he separated from the Military employment. But it didnt stop him from going to school. He is in the last page's of that Time/Life magazine, he is pictured with one other, and they were tasked to do what we would find very hard to do as citizens/non military, and that work came back to haunt him in later years. It is a picture, their backs only, and they are just following orders, tagging and Identifying.
    Now I want to get those cards out and remember a better time with him as a teenager, the fun we shared with those baseball cards. They have been well stored. Should all be in good condition. All bought new.

As a kid I’d buy boxes of tops, fleer, donruss and UD and put together sets and buy the update and traded sets. This has been a great hobby for a long time. Plus I’ve always loved baseball. Vin Scully's call in the 1988 World Series, when Gibby homered in the bottom of the 9th, off Eckersley's backdoor slider, will inevitably go down as one of the top three greatest calls in MLB History. MLB has it listed as the #2 Greatest Announcer Call. Jack Buck's call was good; however, Vin Scully's call was great. Vin's call is what most baseball enthusiasts remember from the 1988 World Series ~ A's vs. Dodgers!!!

    The PSA grading system seems like a racket to me... good video though. I love the nostalgia.

    • @chrisolivo6591
      @chrisolivo6591 Před 2 lety

      I think PSA grading originally has good intentions. Grading is a deterrent to counterfeiting as that was a big problem for many years (my friend almost bought a Henderson rookie back in 1991, but we brought it to a friend who owned a card shop and he knew it was fake).
      The second reason grading helped was it made it easier to negotiate on a card as it already gave it a price reference. It should have never been 1-10, as it should have been Mint, Very Good, Average, Poor. I don’t see a difference in most PSA 9 and 10’s.
      Where PSA grading went wrong is people are just getting everything graded to flip. The only cards that should be graded are the elite rookie cards that will hold their value long term. Instead the opposite is happening as you have a backlog of graded cards so everyone can make a quick buck.
      The last reason PSA grading feels like a racquet is the value of PSA 10 and even PSA 9. They have literally priced out 99% of collectors so something is wrong about that. I look at some of these values for PSA 10 and they are outrageous.

      Tiffany's were not for sale in 82-91 the years of production. They were given to certin people that Topps thought deserved them such as hobby shops, advertisers, employees, and dealers. 1984 only had 10,000 boxes produced from Ireland. Don't know why the show's even put a Tiffany card price up. 99,% of collectors don't even own 1. I know I don't after 55 years of collecting.
