Nice you always do things right. Definetely right decision on that shower tray. Hope work gets easier soon, but these jobs are good for the noggin.

My shower installation was being held up when they called to say that three shower trays were warped and they finally chose another supplier. I thought they were just playing around but on arriving home...... three shower trays lying in the hall!

Another great video Mark. You have the same mind set I have. When you're not happy about a job it just plays over and over in your head. Also the shower tray. A lot of people would have used that tray. It's a double edged sword, you have a standard you won't fall below. But when something goes wrong it's plays on your mind. It's a great example for young plumbers to see what real life plumbing is all about. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The only shower trays I fit are mira flight trays. Acrylic capped both sides so smooth as. They also recommend silicone to fit so doesn't void the warranty

I painted my en-suite ceiling white emulsion then a coat of Polyvine decorators’ varnish. No more mildew issues or if you get it, it wipes off. A game changer.
Does it not sweat hold water on ceiling ....I've been to jobs were they used bathroom paint and ceiling was dripping with water ....had a decent fan in but couldn't take the steam out quick enough ...
Might have to look into that then ....but mildew being about is a ventilation problem simple as ....it's like saying to customer once they've spent 15k on a bathroom don't worry about the mould on ceiling just wipe it off now and again it will be fine .....🙈....sure they will accept that ....
Had a few trays like that. You could use a single head pump and pump the mixed water to outlets make it easier. Never change what you know works( silicone)
I’m currently doing a full refurb on a bathroom with 2 internal walls “ paramount egg box walls “ ( usually a wimpy home early 70s ) I bought some fishier wall plugs and screws Battons onto wall Ran electrics and plumbing in then boarded over battens with foam filled tile backer boards I added extra battons where radiator is going to can screw st8 to timber
If you are using silicone to silicone down the tray. What measures due you use to level up the tray. I.e. If your floor is off by 15 to 20mm. P.s.i feel your frustrations😂 at these jobs. Everyone thinks it a day to rough in pipework. They don't see that a plumber is a jack of all trades.
Enjoyed that as normal mate. The moisture board and tanking looks like a solid seal. I’ve got one to fit myself soon. I may and I only say may, try the classi seal but if I’m honest yours looks well watertight. I’m. Only a diyer but something about normal plasterboard and tiling just doesn’t seem a solid enough seal against water. Keep em coming Mark, particularly the awkward jobs, it’s where we learn the most! Maybe sneak a couple of ‘easy ones ‘ in first though for a destress😊

Top job, im with you with them sealing tapes mate not a massive fan of em prefer to silicone everywhere before the tiling like you did got at least 3 barriers of silicone before anything should leak including the final silicone after tiling 😊
I’d be interested to see the tanking process and the reasoning as to why you/ they do what they do? Eg what stuff they use and why tanking is important around certain areas? Sorry if it’s an obvious question just curious
I would imagine they did not need to batten it before because the ceiling was boarded and then the wall put up (if you can call them wall!) I hate bathrooms and tend to avoid :)
I'll never again fit a stone resin tray, always pay that bit extra for a Mira flight tray, they even recommend fixing down with silicon just remember to prime that floor first.
I used one of those Mira sealing kits the other week to be fair. No they aren’t the best and when it comes to tiling they kick your tile out and you have to put next to no tile adhesive over them. I just tend to use the Mapei kit now (think you’ve used it previously) but it can be a bit of messing about putting the tape round the bottom
if you can find the batons and baton and board over allowing room for pipework as the egg box walls real pane cheaper and better job and makes it easier for you and the tiler and gives you some thing to fix screen act act i have found my self
Can anyone tell me why that insulation was all dirty and discoloured in the ceiling? Would it have been mouldy or damp from leaks in the past and needed replacing? Thanks
Did my son's tray a few months ago used sand and cement as the floor had level issues. Have seen some people use foam on here. Doesn't feel right to me as I don't think any manufacturers have approved. What's your thoughts?

Bathrooms are a nightmare, you never know what you will find even with XRay vision!!!!! The moral of the story is, look after your merchant, and if it goes tits up, hopefully they will look after you....??? Thanks Mr.T
I bet you, that tray is made by just trays. In my experience with them, they are rubbish. Quality control looks non existent. I today have got exactly the same grinding off of the tray. but leaving it dangerously thin in the centre. Being up on their supplied four legs riser kit. I have no faith in it. I personally normally fit mira flight trays. Seem to be alot better quality.
Are you tanking the area to prevent damage to the walls, seen as you're using plasterboard(albeit moisture resistant)? . 'Abacus' or concrete based tile backer board would be far superior in providing a substrate behind the tiles.
From what I remember, the studs in paramount walls aren't even attached to the bottom or top plates anyway, so cutting through wouldn't make the wall any weaker.

Also had the exact same thing with a tray last week 1600x 800 thin as hell and rough on waste hole. Took a sander to it for 10 mins and seemed to do it. No quality control on products anymore.

Those egg carton walls are shocking, could be worse, we had one where the partition walls were same thickness as those but made of straw.

Because it would of had to of been done the whole wall and they would of messed up the unit design etc…

Yes it would but as the whole wall had to be done and plastered certain areas it wouldn’t of worked as explained👍🏼
Pain those egg shell walls, looks like you cut right through those wall joists though, could you not have just drilled holes or notched them.
