    I think this offers straight forward instructions. You can compare it alongside other videos you've no doubt seen, to get a good overall knowledge of best practise. The speed and oratory were easier for me. I've watched quite a few and things are usually discussed and demonstrated so fast, your still internalizing while they've raced ahead. Good to see a broad range of processes, clearly but concisely put. Thank you.

    good video but one question is it the 10mm boards around the shower tray that gives the fall to the drain.

  • @karlinguk
    @karlinguk Před 8 lety +4

    Does the shower tray have a angle to direct water into the waste?
    How to level the floor overall to direct water into the waste wasn't really explained very well (just a quick comment about it being good practice to slope.the boards)...I think this point needs to be really emphasised as a finished wet room that water doesn't gravitate towards the waste hole is a disaster...
    Any advice appreciated...
    Peace

    Any advice on this system’s compatibility with underfloor heating? I’m looking at doing an renovation and this system seems like my best option so far, but I had thought about putting in underfloor heating too.

    does this kind of drain let smells out? it looks like it doesn't have a water trap

    • @MaZEEZaM
      @MaZEEZaM Před 9 lety +2

      should be fine as long as you avoid having a poo in the shower :D

    • @christofer128
      @christofer128 Před 9 lety +1

      water trap prevents smells coming from the other pipes.Most of the drain pipes are all connected to the main big drain pipe which is the one for the toilet.So poo smells comming back to the shower if you dont have water trap.Regadless the above even if is not connected to the toilet,the dirty water from the shower plus 1,2 years will create a smell and shampoo grease inside the pipe.So you dont want to smell that....And finally...you dont poo in the kitchen sink,then why you have water trap?

      I've installed one. There is a shallow slope which you certainly feel when you walk on it. It is necessarily relatively shallow, but drops by perhaps 1cm between the edge and the centre. Plenty to do the job, and a right pain when you come to use normal size tiles as it requires careful "envelope" cuts and looks dreadful if you don't get the symmetry right.

    What am I missing?? I've been a licensed plumber for 20+ years. This sure seems like the long way around the barn. And that trap... I don't see how it even works!? Why not jack up a little of the floor and do it right?!?! I'm sure this gentleman in the video is a nice guy and I surely don't wish to talk down or be offensive. That system is just so crazy to me...

    • @TheEulerID
      @TheEulerID Před 6 lety +1

      The whole point is it's level entry, and if you jack up the floor it will be at a different level to the rest of the house. I installed one of these types of wetroom floors for my parents as they were very elderly and the (almost) level entry from their bedroom was a boon. These arrangements are also used by wheelchair users too and getting the floor as low as possible. They are also very easy to keep clean compared to a traditional shower.
      The trap works fine. It is, however, a very tight fit and needs a lot of pulling power to clip into place. The removable internal components that provide the actual water trap.
      The result (if tanked and sealed properly) is, if not bullet-proof, absolutely solid and entirely water proof in my experience. But it requires immense care to install and once that floor is tiled the only way anybody will ever get to that plumbing is by taking down the ceiling below. It's 95% building work, 5% plumbing.
