I was on cloud nine for this concert. I guess the audience liked it too ;-) you can spot me top right during the initial bow, behind the bearded bassoonist. playing trumpet there but beside myself to be backing my tenor hero...yes, i was tenor then too. of course, Joan was fabulous and I got to play wth her many times. Just this concert and 3 La Bohemes for big Lucy. what a season!
On a sadder note, Pavarotti's encore was Una furtiva lagrima. One of my own "party pieces too, but more importantly, this recording was played at the funeral of the bassoonist who is playing the opening." John Noble was a terrible loss to us when his light plane crashed. RIP.
he would be taller than her, but her hair is about a foot tall, but man they sounded grand together, he always gave her full credit for teaching him to breathe.
She absolutely delivered in this aria and the whole evening. I had this concert on VHS pretty much just after it came out. I think I wore it out! I’m so glad to find it here on CZcams. It is such a wonderful concert. Everybody was on fire that night. Oh to have been there. Thanks for posting it.
OMG...Thank you so much! I have hoped someone would post this in it's entirely...and here it is. Amazing and historic. The Mad Scene from Hamlet was unbelievable...a high-light for sure.

Lucky you! I got to see them both in "Luisa Miller" at the San Francisco Opera some 50 years ago. God and Goddess to me.
Fabulous! ❤
One of the great operatic duos, in one of the most superb video recorded operatic concerts ever!

33:17 I was deeply moved and captivated when I first heard this concert, discovering this aria and her singing it.

Vien diletto e in ciel la luna is one of my favorites of hers. Nobody could sing Elvira like her!
