- Shauno runs through everything he did to get the old farm truck 47 series Land Cruiser ready for an epic trip up to Cape York!
Basic must have mods like the 12v system from the original Dirty 30, a quality UHF from GME, durable Goodyear tyres and refreshed suspension from Fulcrum Suspensions.
Have a watch and tell us - how far off a trip up the cape are you?!

11:15 Shauno and Graham gonna punch a few cones up the cape
Now this is more like it... Basic truck, supplies etc, love seeing old 4wd getting a new lease of life.. more of this pls !!!!!
it's great how Shauno has a good stable of rigs to mix it up. Just need to see a bit more the others. I get how it makes sense to just keep beating on Sooty hard like it owes ya money and keep the other ones in good nic tho
Shauno needs an old CJ5 to go and play with this Ol Darlin
Learnt to drive in rig like this, 1F, 1H and 2H's, no brakes, no lights, PTO winch, hours spent in low range carting timber or sand on some remote cattle stations in qld.
My dad still drives a HJ75 with nearly 1M km on the clock.
But the old GQ TD42 with coils all round still will drive places I have to winch the HJ
Only mod i would recommend to this farm truck rig is a new aftermarket internally regulated 90A alternator. The stock unit was only 40A and the old 2stage external regulator was prone to failure. Have fun enjoy the road trip.
check their new video it failed your on top of it 🤙
Love that old truck! So cool! The new rigs are great but they are everywhere. I’ll take old school any day of the week! ❤️🐞
Sick of seeing 79's and chopped 200's, old school is where its at.
amen!
Bloody oath💪
I’m hearing ya!
I just returned from the cape, did the OTT including the Gunshot drop in.
105 Cruiser, no lockers, no turbo.
Slow, yes…..but heaps of fun.
@@M17CH68 yeah im booked in to do the cape next july in my 96 hzj75 all stock.
@@Steve-cd4wo Great stuff Steve… You’ll eat it up brother! It’s a Toyota!!!!
Happy trails.
Imagine a trip with the 1000 buck lux, zero dollar zook and this!
And Daryl
That would be absolutely AMAZING!!!!
The fully serviced 10000 buck lux, the 1 with 5 zeros zook u mean?
That would make a great watch
YES!! that would be amazing!
Mate one of the best videos I have seen. We all have seen the 79s and the 80s but doing the Cape in the ultimate 40 Series is something different and a breath of fresh air..
Can't wait for the rest mate ..
Currently up the cape as well! We’ve been planning this for 2 years! 8 adults, 12 kids all from Tassie and up the cape for 3 weeks! Currently in Coen and start the OTT on Sunday or Monday. This is living!!!
This has given me a lot in confidence in my upcoming trip. The Simpson desert and beyond in my 1985 BJ70 SWB Landcrusier
When’s the next Kimberly vid coming out, so keen to watch it
Fr
Same question
I thought it was today
i was gutted it was not today. This is a good sub tho
It said in last Kimberly video next time in CZcams
Brings back memories.. my work ute in Cape York was a 76 model 18R 4sp Hilux back in the early 80's .. that road was a lot more 'Challenging' in those days. Loved the 40 series and thought a 60 was a limo. Most 4bs are Princess models these days. Love your work guys, always brings a knowing smile👍
Really good to see a realistic cool old truck that most people can relate to doing a cool trip.
Great to see you going back to basics lads👍
Nice old yota! She’s a beauty!
And one truck I can never find and always wanted. Good old and faithful!
that high lift jack mount point is so good. Love and respect from the USA
Good ep but damn I was so hoping for Kimberley part 2 to kick back and watch this arvo
Heading to the Cape for 4 weeks in August. Taken the 200, a small Van, the Misso and our little 8month old fella along for I hope is one of plenty more trips ahead.
CAN’T WAIT.
I plan to take my new to me 2013 F250 gasser to Land Between The Lakes, TN in the US of A this year. Nothing crazy but there is an offroad park that allows camping in some pretty secluded areas for the placement. I have an ATV that rolled on top of me and luckily I wasn't hurt too bad, but I was with a few buddys that helped me down from the "mountain" we were scaling. Shortly after we got to a safer spot, the ATV lost all power under load. I was towed to the staging area but soon learned that a few people that were not wearing helmets and that were riding double on ATVs (against the rules of the park) were seriously injured on the same track I tipped it on and had medics on the way to evacuate them. My saviors ended up going back and helping out as well. I went home to lick some wounds and take care of the kiddo that was in one of the other vehicles that helped me out. SAFETY, should be your first concern. THEN all of the other crap.
Cant wait for this episode
Gunna be a great one
Many more exciting episodes too look forward too
Should give us an early one as a surprise one week
Take care fellas
Leaving for the cape next week. Almost a year ago a mate said to me “we’re going to the cape, you’re coming with us” Can’t wait.
The 2H is probably my favourite motor and I'm a Patrol fan!
Just have a 22mm socket and a spare over-length oil pressure valve piston on hand just in case the original catches and over pressurises your oil circuit.
Heading to the Cape,,,,, is a must.... we are going to go anywhere we can as soon as we get the beast back from getting a new motor....
Its great to see another 47 back on the road getting used for what it was made for.
Nice farm truck, hope to see more video’s of it.👍👍👍
The rig look great mate, can't wait to see the farm truck more often. Cheers
Your "old farm truck" is still one of the best 4wd ever made and will go anywhere
So good shauno, absolutely loved every second of this video. Getting my all original 47 2h soon and its going to be left standard like yours. Cant wait to see the rest of the 47videos coming. My second favourite video is when you took her for the maiden bush trip!
Loving the 40 series. Looking forward to watching your Cape York episodes. 👍 My big trip this year will be to the Victorian High Country in November - my 1st time (finger's crossed the borders between NSW & VIC will be open).
Shauno enjoyed every minute of that video. In years gone by I owned 2 FJ40's short wheel base. Your video bought back some of those memories. Unfortunately these days my eye sight is no good to have a driver's licence. so no more 4WD for me. But it's nice to see someone else that still enjoys the good old Toyotas.
Love seeing old truck getting it done
Thank goodness! Ive got a 1979 45 and i love this. Well done
About time you guys started doing big trips again, not just down the shops and back tracks. Can't wait to watch it, also I'm just staying local in Sydney until Christmas then hopefully to Fraser 🤘
I went to the North Maine Woods last weekend. I'll be up there again this year. If my passport comes back in time I will head up to the Irving forest in Canada.
Doing the cape in August this year with my wife towing a 22.5 caravan with my HSV sportscat Colorado can’t wait.
After seeing the dirty 30... ON THE BACK OF A TRUCK...after someone on the 60 series Facebook page snapped a pic of it...I can’t say I can believe a word of “2500kms to just get here”, shauno.
Next Graham has to try find himself an old Nissan G60 to do a trip in it with Shauno as his passenger.
the g60 and the 47 👏
As a HJ 47 owner it's nice to see it getting used as intended. Mines bog stock too. Only thing it's got is bull bar tray I fabricated in my work shop and a few good bash plate's as the transfer case hangs low on them old girls. I plan on some locker's for it next and the worn out 2H is getting replaced with a new 12HT I've just rebuilt. Then just a good major service and it will live another 600,000+km of hard work again.
"Goes pretty good, can do 80-90kph." well now if that's not the most toyota thing I've ever heard.
I thought the exact same thing when he said that lol
😂😂
@@stevegraham3817 are they really that bad on fuel despite being diesel?
@@IndyHepburn 12-13 liters per 100km is probably more accurate.
@@Darndiddlyarn oh thats about what i get on my LJ95 with a NA 3L diesel engine.
Previously, I never thought I could have a crush on a vehicle, but I do. This farm truck is epic!!!
Been waiting to see a ep like this cause it brings back the old school Eps from the good old days where Jocko took the “old Nissan hilux ”🤣🤣🤣🤣 from a random call from the boys..
EPIC !!!
Awesome video. Live these older vehicles.
I absolutely love this. I can’t wait. Thank you for this. Love you guys
I love it how u left it stock and not over powering or over modifying
Farm truck! I think that names already taken 🤔, just hope he doesn't start calling himself Azn, he looks a bit like him 😆 but seriously it's great seeing the older trucks 🤩
This is going to be a Amazing episode hope it won't be a short one can't wait
Half way to cape york in the old Rangie now, leaving from Cairns in 2 days!
I could never have one but that is what I call a real truck, good job
SO EXCITED FOR THUS TRIP! ENJOYYYY
Cape York and Fraser Island this year with some great mates and the wife and two kids! Keen as a bean!
Did Cape York in a 1980 G60 Patrol about the same year, standard everything 7.50 x 16 tyres gas fridge no recovery gear except bits of chain etc drove across the Jardine both ways, Gunshot Creek no problems, gas stove, tent, beer, gun and a Sheila . You're doing it a bit soft!! haha, great video!!
Taking my 83 HJ60 series LandCruiser to the tip! First Cape York trip going with my two youngest son's 4 & 14! Hope we make it! Angie
We’re booked in for Orchid Beach for a week for September school holidays. Most important mod was roof racks for inflatable tubes and boogie boards for the kids apart from a DCDC charger for the fridge
Something about going old school, much deeper connection to machine and the road, best type of overland experience in my book 👍 Next trip for me? Ruby Falls, Alberta, Canada.
That truck works an absolute treat
Well done Shaun ! Good to see the Toyota icon going on track n be careful as you decide to sell it let me know I keen to grap it cheers !
Awesome to see Shaun in a stock standard 4wd, on his 10th trip to the Cape xx
So I am about to take the family on a Darling River Run, as our first long distance touring trip.. 6 of us with the camper in tow! It will be illuminating as I am planning for the cape in 12 months time.
At the cape now. Hoping the old 80 can take me home 😂
Awesome Ute 🤙🏻. Looking forward to the episode 🤙🏻🤙🏻
We're hitting the Cape at the end of September, can't wait!
Have a good trip the old way like it was when l was young, cheers boys.
I’ll be heading up to cape for the first time mid July and I am keen as a bean!
Going to Moab, UT! I've got an 87 suzuki samurai thats been diesel swapped, lifted, locked, and a bunch of other goodies in it! Just finishing off the build over the next couple weeks!
2H? 2 Hot! haha. I'm so glad to see this thing again... was beginning to wonder about it.
Same place hitting the cape in July 2years in the planning and now only 5weeks out so excited
sounds like an awesome trip.
I bought a 1986 Unimog to do exactly the same, keep it simple and as basic as possible.
Only mods it will get: a portable 12v battery (with redarc bcdc on the box), manual crane to get the 120kg spare wheel on/off the tray and maybe a bull bar with winch.
The same day I got number plates on it, the first trip began! Canberra to Darwin, not knowing how big the tank is, no fuel gauge. Speedo and odometer gave up within the 1st hour, gearbox died 500km before getting home. LOVED EVERY SECOND OF THIS 7 DAY TRIP!
This dry season the plan is to do shorter trips around the NT and sort out the mechanical/electrical/pneumatic gremlins to make sure she’s ready for the Munja Track next season.
Now this IS interesting... well done Shaun... great truck and trip..
Can't wait to see the trip
I'm one of the locals up from far north cape York, bamaga. seen the old hj cruiser up here, she's a beauty...
We are heading to cape York on the 19th so only 8 days to go we’re so excited
I had a 40 series shorty with canvas roof. Not that pleasant driving in the cold or wet but the most fun vehicle I've had!
Beautiful!!! Planning to do central Botswana in my HJ47 ute next year. Bare basic setup. Battling some sand, lions, elephants and seriously desolate and wild Kalahari desert.
We left Cairns the day you went through, we were heading back to Rockhampton just done the cape and the bottom half of the OTT in our budget build Delica. Would do it again too.
Was just thinking today that I'd love these guys to get an old Delica to do up and take touring. Something a bit different to the standard rigs.
@@goulash75 it is different and quite capable off road. It is the best fun and be prepared to get on some awesome angles.
I think people forget how far you can take a stock 4x4 with just a good set of tyres!!!! Friend and I were having this same discussion just the other week, the aftermarket accessibility and availability has almost made people forget how much a relatively standard vehicle can do!!!!! Those old cruisers are tough as nails and basic as hell so would be a bloody fun adventure!! Comfort......well some things have to be sacrificed when on a budget
My girlfriend and I are going to Lightning Ridge, Bourke, White Cliffs, Broken Hill, Silverton, SA Border Gate Roadhouse and a fair few places off the beaten track including the areas National Parks on the 25th! Doing about 4000kms in 10 days, to say that we are excited is an understatement! 😁😁😁
Just awesome mate love it !!!!!
You guys definitely need more than a million subs.
VIC high country - would love to do it in the snow, but otherwise off season will be just as good. love the old 47, I've got one on the wish list
I ran into jock driving it home at bramwell and Lakeland.
Came into the servo at Lakeland and the 80 series was making some noise and old mate from Mits alloy came and gave me a hand to find the problem and knew the exact problem.
I was one of the young blokes on the telly with the 3 flooded cars.
Doing the Cape this September for 4 weeks ... 2nd time for us ... so looking forward to it😜
Shauno mate I'm heading to cape from Sydney tomorrow , hope too pass paths, I'll be in mt Gu Td42 ol grayham will love it
Yep, a (genuine!) hi-lift jack was my very first piece of recovery equipment... Great for lifting my old 2A Landie out of ruts... lift up and push off the jack out of the rut... and yes - this was my very first hand winch. Even when I got a (again, genuine) Tirfor winch the jack was the first go-to.
Unfortunately, my rig just had a catastrophic break... I have to part it out, and go the next few months without a 4wd. I'll have to plan for next year. I'll just have to keep watching your adventures. Keep up the great work! Cheers.
That’s a great looking truck,very original…
Love the old 4x4s, building up a Suzuki sierra at the moment, will be ready for summer with a high country trip in January 2022. You've mentioned that you might get another Suzuki Sierra build on the show at some point. Would be great to see that!
Doing the same! I just finished off the last little bit of a diesel swap on mine!
I'm sitting here in South Africa, dreaming about going in a trip with you guys one day😎. Love you're videos!
Same, from Mozambique
Will be heading up the Old Coach Road and Wakooka Track on 1st August in my old HJ47 and taking a few mates with me including a SWB 40 Series and possibly a twin cab 40 series.
So keen to see this thing do Cape! Gotta love a good old farm truck. I'm gonna do fraiser island this year (so long as time permits) 🤣
Hot tip with your door getting jammed, try pushing then pulling on the door as you have the handle pulled, one of my rear doors does that and that trick seems to work
I love your video's, I loved watching diesel bothers you guys are kool and fun to watch
Wow the Kimberley's landscape really has changed a lot since part one.
^^
Love it! Don’t forget the case of Iron Jack beer!
Already been to 2 of Queensland's 3 corners and hit the Simpson this year, however do have a plan for Cape in 2023 for the 10 anniversary of our first trip to the Cape
Cape coming at you, 1st of July for a month! 👌 might see you legends up there.
We are heading to the cape in the next couple of days 😁😁
The best 'Mod" I had on my 81" Trooper was a Clamp Fan plugged into the cig lighter and clapped on the dash and yeah cup holders made of pile would even hold a box of tissues. Windows up, flaps closed gave it enough air pressure to keep the dust out.
"ive got a billy in the back" always knew shauno'd appreciate the green stuff xD
As a 3 year apprentice nearly 20 years ago I had a hj47 Ute 2h factory power steering. We’ll long story short couldn’t stop the thing from overheating replaced everything to do with the cooling system over about 6 months nothing fixed it till one day I took the massive hella bull lights of the bull bar the thing never over heated again.
Going up Cape York in 6 weeks In an old rodeo. Can't wait
Something to be said it "simple", just makes things more memorable. Look forward to the trip vids. I'd lacquer that hood tho', keep the patena.
