Vocabulary Trivia: "Cows"
"The light cows" does not refer to a light version of the animal, cow.
In this usage, "cows" in active verb form means "to submit" (specifically, from intimidation). Since it describes light, it can be seen as "the light receding" (with an element of fear, suggesting symbolic darkness overtaking, or overpowering with a terrifying approach)
It's more commonly heard in a passive verb form, "be cowed", as in, "that person was cowed into submission", so I found that use of the word interesting here.

I love how Zero's voice has a slight hint of the effect for Omega's voice, almost like awakened Zero is Omega coming through.

@@Whitewolf019 it's the slight electronic echo in the background. You can hear it best at the beginning where his voice seems to warp but it stays at a lower level throughout the rest of his singing.
That is super smart. It's something you'd never think of doing, but once it's done, it just clicks.
There is no 'Omega coming through'. Omega is a completely different being from Zero. Dr. Weil just inserted Omega's mind into Zero's original body.

I love the fact that the dialogue is written so you can hear the steadfast demeanor in the two... but at the same time, you can tell they really, REALLY do not want this fight to end in a fatality.
They're both trying to jump on a grenade for the sake of the other, but are too stubborn and worn down by the trauma of their fight to trust the other can handle it.
That second verse really showed it too.
X being worried for zero's safety because of the virus that should be killing them is making him stronger, no one knows why, and he's afraid his friend is being corrupted without him even being aware.
For zero it's the virus is obviously awakening his maverick side but he's still thinking of his responsibility. The virus that would kill anyone else is making him stronger rather than weaker, strong enough to end this conflict on his own without risking his best friend's life.
Neither want the other to risk their lives but neither are willing to leave without the other.

Missed that reference until you brought it up. And I'm a big fan of what's being referenced.
I like how this song perfectly captures the spirit of both X and Zero. X isn’t fighting to defeat his friend, but rather he’s fighting to save Zero’s soul so that he doesn’t become a maverick and so X doesn’t have to loose his friend again. Zero however isn’t trying to destroy X, but he is a soldier and is determined to complete the mission even if it means overworking his own circuits or even destroying himself to complete the mission.
It also reflects the conversation at the end of X4 where X makes Zero promise to destroy him if he ever became a Maverick, which was only compounded in Zero having to kill the closest thing he had to a functional romantic relationship.
@@HighPriestFuneral Oh yeah. That scene made me relate to X. I liked that he’s aware that even he’s not immune to the possibility of becoming a Maverick and he questions his own actions in MMX4.
X is acting this way because Zero asked him which part of his soul made Leviathan.

@@JRENZO10 Technically, an X Buster is just a Mega Buster Mark 17 according to Mega Man X's specifications. However, that only applies for unarmored X.
It's called the "Z Saber", though it's often shortened to just "Saber".
But it's basically a Light Saber.

@@flamefangstar In every MotI song involving Zero (Zero's Theme from Mega Man Zero, Cannonball, and now Zero vs X) there is always a line that goes "gun in my/your hand", so any time a new song featuring Zero comes out, the fans expect there to be a line that references that, such is this case here, as this is the third MotI lyrically-adapted song featuring Zero in it.

A robot virus had spread all over the Earth, but instead of infecting Zero (the red dude), it makes him stronger. X (the blue dude and his best friend) is worried about Zero because of that, so while he's infiltrating the bad guy's base, X stops him and tells him to go back to HQ for a checkup. Zero refuses, so they fight.
@@aspookyghost5969 so X5 has 3 endings. In the bad ending zero gets infected by a virus and turns evil and X has to fight him. However in the other 2 endings zero doesn’t turn evil and instead they fight because X thinks zero should go back to base. If you play as zero he outright says that he can’t believe X would fight him over something like this
So... the game really wants you to think it's Fire Emblem Three Houses, but most of the time it's Sonic Heroes team battle logic. Got it.

I like how the voices sound like you would expect x and zero to sound. X sounds empathetic and serious while zero sounds gruffer then x with a twinge of something else, also great job
I can really feel the spirits of their creators in their dialouge. You could barely change the wording and it would fit Light and Wily.
A bit unrelated, but hear me out:
A very unorthodox concept for shits n giggles.
Model O proves too much for Aile to control, so she can't megamerge with it without going insane.
Vent, on the other hand, can handle Model O perfectly fine (or so it seems) so he gives Model X and Model Z to her to better defend herself against the mavericks.
Unfortunately, after a while, Vent starts being cruel and chaotic every time he's in Model O form, and it becomes addicting for him.
So when Aile starts voicing any kind of concern, Vent brushes it off completely - saying he's fine and that she's overdramatic.
But when Aile puts her foot down by demanding to get back to Guardian HQ so Fleuve can forcibly get Model O off of him, Vent refuses - and attacks her in anger.
And a fight ensues.

Just listened to the Songtober version of this LAST NIGHT and hoped for a remaster soon!! The original is what got me to play the X Series at all so I'm SUPER STOKED to not only finally see this but catch it so early too!! Insanely good job!!!!!

X is ever reluctant, always cautious - especially when his friends are concerned.
Zero by contrast is confident that in any battle he’ll win, more so after X4 where he had to fight Iris, he might actively be searching for a fight that finally stops him

This fight was entirely preventable but I always felt that it was proof of their bond. They both genuinely believed the other might be going Maverick because of this new virus and refused to let anyone except themselves try to break through to the warrior they once knew.

Was so glad to see this got turned into a full piece! One of the best moments of the series and while the scene in game was a little sloppily reached as far as plot is concerned it still had a strong amount of emotion to it. The song only elevates this feeling further. Fine work!

@@rocknatex5013 I think they were going for the verb "cows"... Which I just learned exists today. It's I think what the words cower and coward derives from, described as "to destroy the resolve or courage of", or "to bring to a state or an action by intimidation".
... It's still a bizarre choice.
I'm fairly sure he's calling the light (or the heroes) cowards because, as stated by another reply, cow is a synonym for cowering or surrendering out of fear.
