In this video, shadow a scene with me by the Cuban actress, Ana de Armas! Not only is Ana an incredible actress, but she's also a great example of how to use voice, humor, and intonation to make an audience laugh - and she does that in her second language.
Ana’s story of learning English is an inspiration, she didn’t learn English until she came to the US, at 26 years old!
I hope you will see this video as a true example of what is possible in a second language, as we’ll practice Ana's speech and see how she uses her voice to deliver lines that are both funny, charming, and inspiring.

Oh my gosh!!! You have been juicing up My Level about speaking English, a lot of people respect me when it comes to speaking English
Ana de Armas has improved a lot her English pronunciation, yet I can still hear the reminiscences of her spanish accent especially on some vowels
Leí Ana de Armas y fue suficiente para saber que me gustaría el video
You're always such an inspiration, Hadar 👍👏a non-native speaker who takes a huge leap teaching English pronunciation, explaining it chunk by chunk! Excellent 👍👍
Great lecture! You save me!
I receive the benefit of improving my listening skills from shadowing practice which allows me to gradually and individuality repeat every single word that the speaker says. Thank you for this lesson.
As always, fantastic and useful video Hadar. Ana de Armas’ SNL show was amazing and she was stunning. The Spanish class scene prob my fav, I recommend you to watch it.

Thank you very much for helpful and amazingly videos. Now I know my problem when speaking English, I don't stress the right words. How do I know which word to stress if I have to give a long presentation like this? I think I should start practicing shadowing technique more ❤
Very Useful!!! ❤

Thank you love🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹❤️🌹🌹
I don’t recommend shadowing non-native speakers. Ana de Armas speaks English very well, but as a native speaker of American English I can hear her Cuban accent. Not that it’s bad. She actually sounds very nice. But why would you shadow a Cuban accent in English? It doesn’t make sense unless you want to have her accent.
I agree with you about Ana de Armas, but what do you think about Hadar's English? I dont know if youve already given your opinion about it, but it is the first time i read a comment from you, so id like to know how you (as a native speaker) hear her. 😓🤔👂
😎 cool
First of all thank you very much for your help and support.
Could i be able to know which American accent she is taking to.
Kindly reply please
Thank you
❤
Please , inform me like understand the sound ‘ll I missed it frequently
It came out the blue, i dont leave stones unturned
I've listened to your latest podcast 318. and you said "I sent you" like "I sent chya"... Kevin and Liza said that that the correct reduction is "sentcha" wihout the "y" sound.
Is that true?
Hey. If you’re really wondering I can tell you that both are correct. Sometimes people will tell you that only one way is correct because it fits their agenda.
But the fact that you’re asking me this, is concerning. I recommend that you focus on real Challenges that might prevent you from being clear, rather than focusing on things that may make you lose track of what really matters. I wish you all the best!
She said "didn't" with the flap T which is not correct
It’s not not correct. It’s one way to pronounce it and there are dialects in the US where this pronunciation is the valid one. There isn’t just one English, you know…
She is my crush and perhaps every Man of the world too 😉
hi sweetheart I wish you are doing well and safe,
Thank you. I am safe ❤️🙏🏽
Can she fix my pronunciation?
I personally don’t like shadowing. I never did actually. The reason for me felt like copying a singer instead of doing my own version of the song. It doesn’t make anyone fluent and all one’s doing is copying some lines but when it comes to an actual conversation, you get frustrated with yourself because you can’t know all the right intonation of every word. You’re limited and you don’t sound natural at all. Just an opinion from a non English speaker to another.
100 per cent right. Thx. 😊
@@gringoenespanol A lot of native speakers say she has a noticeable foreign accent. Hadar is praised to have 95% accuracy (according to my accent coach) when speaking English so If I'm not shaddowing Hadar judt because of that 5% let alone Ana
@@gringoenespanol
Yeah, I'm not a native English speaker, but I can still tell that she has a thick accent, so I don't see the reason to copy her accent.
I agree with you. Shadowing isn't a good option when it comes to conversation. It's not like helping you to overcome difficulties with learning how to think in another language or gain speech confidence. There is another English CZcams channel called Rachel's English.
Rachel makes videos on intonation practices, showing where this curved-peeked stress is in stressed words.
If this video shows how characters in (FRIENDS) speak, you'll mimic their intonation. If you have problems, your best option is a speech therapist. I don't know if you know. But when Hadar moved to the US to follow her acting career, she went to a speech/vocal coach. That is your only opt. When I came to the US, I went to such and gained speech confidence. The problem is psychological most of the time. Part of it is because when you move here, you start feeling homesick, and this could play a nasty joke on you. Also, the inflexible work schedule and insane work hours affect you on an emotional level. It worked for me to just chill out and go with the flow.
There's something called muscle memory.. No matter how much theoretical knowledge you know about the endings, intonation, stresses etc unless you practice speaking or conversing a lot your initial bad accent creeps on you.. Shadowing one of the best technique to acquire muscle memory.. And nothing gonna happen in a day or two.. You need to keep doing in until you get the muscle memory
