ROSINA Al-Shaater, from Bristol, UK, started growing her facial hair as a social experiment in 2016. Rosina, who has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), has been removing her excess facial hair since she was 13 years old. But after years of waxing, she decided to fully embrace her moustache and beard. She said: “I wanted to see how people would react when they saw me.” Rosina has received quite a lot of criticism for being a woman with a beard, but she’s not phased by people’s insults. She believes her beard highlights her femininity. Rosina added: “I don’t want to remove my facial hair just because others want me to. I want to get to a point where I love and accept myself completely."

The barber is the real silent hero in this one very awesome person. Didn't treat her mean or treat her "overly nice" like some ppl treat disabled or otherwise visibly different ppl in a fake way. Just genuinely treated her like he would any person. That's how we should all be. In my experience, a lot of ppl who are different or disabled do NOT want to be treated "special", just equal.
yeah she is beautiful and her confidence really makes her shine. It’s amazes me how quickly I adjusted to seeing her beard and then it blending into her as just another part of her face. I think this is why representation is so important, it gives confidence to those finally seeing themselves while making those who are different seem less “other”.
Lmao! Stop the cap James, you soyboy.
I have PCOS and have a lot of facial hair from ear to ear, full beard if I let it grow. I've always been really self conscious of it since people are so judgmental. Hearing what she said at the beginning how it's feminine since it happened when you were starting to become a woman got to me a bit. I'm going to start having that mentality. I used to in high school pluck every individual hair because I hate it so much, it was so frustrating going through the pain for something I couldn't control. Well its for her own good really shes obviously a bright and competent girl but most people will just see her as the bearded freak of a woman and it will hold her back.
If a man was ungroomed you would think the same thing. Scruffy and lazy.
@@richnroll515 are we really comparing a man with an unkempt beard to a woman with one? Come on now..
@@richnroll515 How is she naturally having a beard equated to being ungroomed though?
We are obsessed with maintaining the perception that there is a gender binary. That there are two genders that are polar opposites and many do things to conform to this idea. (Ex women shave body hair because it’s only acceptable for men to have it.)
She is not trying to appease the binary (by shaving her beard), and it makes people angry.
There are plenty of men who actually cannot grow a full beard or much long facial hair. It grows in patches. So those men who have a problem with this woman with a natural beard are probably envious.
And to women who would say negative things to this woman, just remember you lack self-confidence which shows in various ways. And it is easily seen by others no matter how much you try to pretend to have confidence.
I observe people in general, to see we all have flaws. This woman in the video being interviewed embraces something about herself that several people may see as flawed. Her embracing bring her more self-confidence.
She’s also gorgeous and has strong feminine features so it adds even more to the confidence

Omg I have PCOS too it’s comforting to know that I’m not the only person who has it and to hear people’s stories and how they live with it is inspiring 🙌🏾
Definitely helps to be young, in shape, and naturally beautiful. Now if she were overweight, had a double chin, and wasn’t very pretty, that’s a different story. People would be less likely to accept it in a positive way.
I was thinking the same thing. It’s essentially her only “flaw” . However, she may get more people who say “you’re too pretty to leave that hair on your face” so she can’t live up to their perfect beauty standard.
I’m guilty of thinking that she’s hiding some of her beauty behind her beard. That’s what’s pleasing to my eyes but she’s doing us a service by forcing us to adapt. Maybe by her doing it, people will give more compassion to others they encounter afterwards.

Speaking as someone with a milder version of this, you shouldn't. You shave off the tapered end of the hair which is why men's beard stubble feels rougher than their beards. Tweezing, waxing, laser, or electrolysis are better solutions. They have longer lasting results, much fewer ingrown hairs, and no irritating stubble.

She seems like a really cool, down to earth girl.. it’s not her fault that she was born with a condition that causes hair growth.. if she’s able to embrace it and feels comfortable with facial hair then good on her. No one else’s opinion matters at the end of the day. I would be lieing if I said that it doesn’t throw me off a bit, but that’s simply due to the fact that we’ve all been conditioned our entire lives on what qualifies as “normal” and what the ideal vision of what beauty is. I love how the barber was so kind and supportive of her and her beard. I used to judge women for unusual body hair when I was younger...just out of habit from my social environment, but now I see it very differently. I actually had to stop shaving some parts of my body because it causes flare ups of a skin condition I have known as Hidradenitis or Acne Inversa. I trim some areas of hair short for comfort, but no longer shave them because it causes me to get bad ingrown hairs. Body hair is normal, it's there to keep our skin warm and safe. Self-care should be to suit your own comfort, not to please others. Proud of women like this who aren't ashamed to be their natural selves.
Men get celebrated all the time for modelling "features typical of women" ... with hair, nails, make up, clothing... i see no reason why she should be mocked for what is naturally her true self

I started watching with one mindset. I finished it with a complete 180. Well done being YOU.
I believe if any girl started to shave her face she would eventually start to grow hair on her face
Everything about her is absolutely beautiful. I can’t even imagine someone being mean to her. No worries though cause she’s solid to her foundation. Such an angel!! 😍🥰
I have PCOS & it's a lot both physically/mentally. Good on you for being your unique self. ❤
I love her message at the end about reflecting on whether your choices about your body are truly coming from you or not. I worry too much about what society thinks which is a miserable way to live really. I'd love to have her confidence.
I appreciate the professionalism of the Barber!
We all are different types of people around with hair on the face, arms, legs, even on the back of the neck. Love your own self esteem and confidence brings the best out of you every day. Even I have it too.
As someone with PCOS I feel for her. I obviously don’t have it to that extreme but it’s a struggle and you feel insecure. I do personally. And that somethings wrong with me. Her confidence is inspiring. 💗💗
I noticed I was getting chin hair one day and was freaked out! I have now accepted that it is my reality and I have accepted that I will be shaving daily. Each of us must live our truth and be the best versions of ourselves; even if we take different paths. Your confidence is inspiring.
I have PCOS too and my beard would be so long if I just let it grow. I'm proud of myself for getting to the point of not caring too much if I haven't removed hair for as long as like a week, and I'd probably not trim as often if not for trying to look pretty for work (I'm a sales rep). I don't ever plan on getting something like plastic surgery, tattoos or even piercings (actually 'altering' your body, as she mentioned), but I don't think there's anything wrong with NOT being comfortable with having facial hair as a woman. It's NOT feminine, as women with PCOS are producing high levels of androgen and testosterone. Good for her for being confident though! I definitely wouldn't look as good as she does with a beard.
I call them my whiskers 😆 many women in my family have a beard. Nothing close to hers. But we all know it’s in our family.. I was now. I am going to get checked for PCOS though. I had a bad outbreak of acne last year and my face went crazy..
You are beautiful well done on the confidence. To all the women who spend hours plucking, shaving and waxing you are so real, you accept who you are and you have not allowed other people to decide what you should and should not do with your body.
Nobody is gonna convince me that a beard looks good on a woman, shaving is easy, but good for her for embracing it and she shouldn't get insulted for it.
Right
Yep
Shaving looks bad tho
@@DogDaysohlala wax or laser treatment are better options.
@@edibles4458 it doesn't help everyone. Also women will natural get hairier as they age. Into menopause. It's natural, just hers are coarse.
PCOS does have serious longterm effects. I know she’s choosing to embrace her beard, but she should still treat the disease. Untreated it can lead to insulin resistance and diabetes, baldness on the head, high blood pressure, womb cancer, depression and other mood disorders.
I'm sure none of us need to school her on her diseases/illnesses.
@@averytokar9612 I think she needs to be schooled. Pcos is no joke. Treating like it some cosmetic thing to embrace is not good at all.
How do you know she's not treating it?
There’s no real way to treat it. All they do is diagnose you and send you home. Maybe give you birth control at most but that isn’t really good for everyone.
I'm glad you shared this. My sister isn't treating hers and it's getting worse. I really hope she takes it serious.
Their stories inspire us, makes us feel how valuable we are for ourselves, make us realize that there is no such pain that we can't endure.....
Thank you! This has helped me a lot! To always embrace my beauty no matter what other people think or feel! I love me and that’s all that matters in the end 💜💚💛
Changes to public perception and social norms requires strong, courageous people willing to roll with the punches from those who fear change and lots and lots of time..I hope one day because of humans like Rosina, we are all able to express ourselves as we desire, without fear of abuse..What a Beauty ❤
She is stunningly beautiful! And I loved what the barber pointed out about culture. In his African culture, seeing a naturally bearded woman is normal! I also have PCOS, however my hair symptoms are minimal (presents differently for different women). 👏 ❤️👏
I think that gentleman is actually from the islands. Its not really that common to see bearded ladies in Africa. Its about the same as anywhere else.
@@sexyblackjag I was just going off his comment about being a African. I don’t think people realize how many women around them have PCOS or other issues that may cause facial hair. They just don’t see if often bc we pluck/tweeze/laser it. I think if it was more socially and culturally acceptable, it would be more common than what we see now.
@@sexyblackjag Where exactly in africa are these so call common bearded ladies located. SMDH
THE CREATOR BLESS
After suffering from years of ridicule and bullying in high school over a decade ago I now know that this is a condition that runs in family. My facial hair growth is no way near this lady’s but it is noticeable on me because the hair is dark against my skin. I used to think it was just peach fuzz
I'm so glad to see the world changing in this positive way - I was bullied so much at school it obliterated my self confidence permanently.
😢
Having PCOS, and with female hirutism; I aspire to this level of contentment within myself. God bless you
I love how the barber was so chill about everything amd showed/explained what he was doing for her. And then shared his own story of begin African, has seen many females with natural facial hair. As a female, we are told or expected to be certain things. I love how we are getting to a place of normalizing our own normals. Everyone is different so we can learn from each other. 🥰
Love this, normalising our own normals
She is so BEAUTIFUL and I think the beard looks great on her! That barber was so sweet and wonderful too ✨❤️
Habib was so kind in the way he interacted with her. Love it.
She’s so pretty, I love her voice, I love how she owns who she is and just love her personality ❤️✨
I thought she was the male actor Hill Harper
@@briandowling6663 Never heard of that actor
Yes you did
So many women need to see this! There are so many that have pcos that have facial hair that are so self conscious about it. Just like there are men that can’t grow facial hair, there are woman that do! Women grow hair everywhere men do yet we go through the process of shaving everywhere but our hair on our heads. This embracing of our natural bodies is beautiful and this woman does this so amazingly 💕
I have a friend who is going through this. Her family doesn’t even like her having her facial hair not even while she’s at home. It’s heartbreaking because women who deal with this get shamed by friends and even family.
@@Purppusay I can relate 🙃. I believe it my hair so if you have issue with it please don't look. I normally wax mine but only if I can be bothered. Hehe 🤣
She shines so bright. I lover her energy. she is gorgeous!
Her appearance and demeanor is just so attractive!! She looks very confident snd happy, I'm glad I found this video :D
She is very beautiful and the barber cleaned her up really nice it suits the shape of her face better and accentuates her features ❤️❤️❤️
It's funny how I used to jokingly say that I wanted to be a bearded lady when I was a young girl, but then when I matured into a full woman, I actually do grow one! I shave it off every other day though. I asked my doctor about it and had tests done. I have a high fertility and my hormones are normal. I just grow beard hair. Be careful what you say. The universe is listening! 🤣
You're probably one of them colored folk
I would first like to say I get joy out of seeing the journey it takes for all of us to become comfortable in our skin. I'm also slightly jealous she grows better hair than me 😄
I'm not gonna hate on it but... It's a pretty weird look. Ive got a uni brow and extra hair that grows on a facial birthmark. That might be my "natural" look buuuuuut that doesn't mean I like it or that i'm gonna leave it there. That being said, she does have a nice goatee and that barber shaped her up real good. All the power to her I guess lul.
