Babymetal is just Su (lead vocals and dance), Moa (scream and dance), and previously Yui (scream and dance). The Kami band is supporting them and consists of some of the best session musicians there are that occasionally rotate. If you want to see more of the musicians check Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of God intro from the Budokan show. You won’t be disappointed! Either way, great reaction and analysis!

@@connor_costellorblx8211 Yui left for health reasons. Virtually nothing has been heard from her since.
But that wasn't really my point. This band, more than any I've ever encountered is most emphatically _not_ just about the lead singers/dancers whoever they may be.
It is also the vision, the premise, the instrumentalists, the composers, the marketing, the people behind the stage shows, the approval and support from many other massive bands, the world tours, the unparalleled rise to success.
And, of course, some of the biggest parts of all; the fans and the community.
So to say it is just 3 little girls (now young ladies) is missing the mark by quite a way imo.

The group officially is the front singers, now just Su-metal and Moametal. Everyone else is part of the support team. They don't even officially release the names of the band members. Fans usually have to figure it out. In 2019 they announced there would be 3 Avengers alternating in Yuimetal's spot. They only dance and don't sing. Fans figured out who they are. Right now all 3 Avengers are doing other things so no one knows what will happen in the future.

Very good first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Galaxy. You already have a lot of comments with some good information and suggestions for songs you will appreciate - and a link to the Babymetal Reactor Resource channel where you can find links to videos you can use for reactions without fear of them being blocked.
The official videos are all very good but BABYMETAL is a live performance act and that is where they are always at their very best (not least because that is the only place where you will get to hear the Kami Band playing the music and Su-metal's natural vocals).
I would second the suggestions for 'Catch Me If You Can' live at Budokan 2014 with the Kami Band intro, 'Rondo of Nightmare' also at Budokan 2014 with the 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods' intro from the Kami Band and, as a multi-instrumentalist I agree you will almost certainly appreciate 'Tales of the Destinies' for the intricate arrangement and skilled musicianship.

  • @papa_xan

Just some info on the Kami Band:
They have a rotating cast of musicians, although these days the lineup is more consistent. You generally always have Ohmura, BOH, and Hideki with the second guitarist being either Leda or ISAO. In 2015 there was also a beloved guitarist names Mikio Fujioka who tragically passed away in 2018 as a result of injuries sustained in a fall while stargazing. Over the years there have been a lot of different members, many were only used for a show or two, and even had a female violinist for a couple shows back in the early days.
The Kami Band only supports Babymetal during live performances and generally don't participate in the album recording or music writing, with a couple exceptions where Leda did the guitar arrangement for at least one song, No Rain No Rainbow. They basically went out and found the best session musicians in Japan and hired them to be the Kami (God) Band.
For the tour in 2019/20 there was a second Kami Band added for tour dates outside of Asia. Referred to as the Western Kami Band, it's made up of musicians from outside of Japan.
There are no isolated cams of any of the Kami members for any concerts, but they do have several songs where they perform instrumental intros, where every member gets a chance to shine, and shine they do. Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of Gods intro is definitely worth a look. It's also not usually blocked on CZcams, which is great.

Also, the Kami Band has another group of musicians made up of American musicians. For an example of their musicianship…
    1. Kagerou w/ Kami Band intro
Kami Band are an assembly of some of Japan’s best session musicians. They have their own projects away from BabyMetal. While, recent years, Kami Band West (Americans) have toured with BabyMetal when Japanese Kamis have scheduling issues.
Lastly, The One (fans of BabyMetal) love the Kami Band equally as they do for the girls. Members of the Kami Band has said they appreciate BabyMetal for having them on world tours. Enabling them to visit and play to countries and venues they probably couldn’t have performed on.

I don't know how much Glen already told you, but just in case here's a (very) brief introduction to the band:
BABYMETAL is around since 2010 when the three girls were 11 and 12 years old. They originally were part of the school-themed idol-project Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy) but parted from SG in 2013 to become an independent act. Back then the band mainly consisted of three girls: Suzuka Nakamoto (aka. SU-METAL, lead vocals), Yui Mizuno (aka. YUIMETAL, backing vocals and dance), and Moa Kikuchi (aka. MOAMETAL, backing vocals and dance) complemented by a bunch of stellar musicians called Kami-Band (Band of Gods) at their live performances.
They already have three studio albums (and loads of live CDs/DVDs/BRs too) out:
    "BABYMETAL", rel. 2014 (studio album)
"Metal Resistance", rel. 2016 (studio album)
"Metal Galaxy", rel. 2019 (studio album)
BABYMETAL also has several live recorded shows out on DVD/Blu-Ray which is a good thing because, believe it or not, they are one of the best live bands out there (which earned them many best-live-act-awards). They also never get boring because of their diversity in music styles. Regardless they always manage to stay recognizable. Unfortunately, Mikio Fujioka (their lead guitarist) died from an accident in January 2018 and Yui Mizuno left BABYMETAL in fall 2018 because of health reasons. But despite all that, the band is going strong and achieved, as the first Asian act ever, a number one notation at the billboard rock charts with their recently released album "Metal Galaxy".

If you're willing to continue this journey, my recommendations for the start would be:

"Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) -
Pretty much a master class in audience control. : )
BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song.
You can definitely feel the speed metal in this one though.
And folks have pointed out that Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce contributed guitar tracks for the studio version of this song.
This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000.
BABYMETAL's lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto first appeared at SSA in 2008 as a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old.
She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL.
Guitarists that night were Takayoshi Ohmura and Leda Cygnus. The bassist was BOH, and the drummer was Hideki Aoyama.
Hideki's father and brother were also drummers, so it's kind of in his blood.
The other current Kami Band drummer, Anthony Barone, is phenomenal as well.
He used to play with Shadow of Intent, and is still active with other bands.

Necessary clarification: They are not "the singers". The three girls Su-metal, Yuimetal and Moametal are BABYMETAL. The Kami Band (we love them too) is a support band only for the concerts...Anyway great reaction...

Welcome to the foxhole, is nice to be here.\m/
This is an epic anthem in response to all the haters out there thinking Babymetal is not metal enough.
Sam Totman and Herman Li from DragonForce are behind guitars arrangement here, you can hear their signature vibes on this song, so that's a big reason why this song hits so hard, they even play with them one time along with _Gimme Chocolate!_
KobaMetal (the producer) said in an interview that he likes wrestling shows and he loves to put those theatrical live performance, it give us a bunch of lore to enjoy Babymetal even more.
You spot the "circle pit" or "mosh pit" as it is well know during metal live concerts, like the "wall of death" that's what our queen was requesting for when doing the arm signs before the song started, but in this case it calls *"mosh'sh pit"*, the difference here is during BM live concerts is a safer way to do this because if anyone falls everyone will stop and try to help the fallen one.
This is one of the strongest Babymetal weapon along with Karate from the 2nd album, but if you want to go back you might want to listen some other songs like _Babymetal Death live Legend 1997, Headbanger!! live at Legend I, Catch Me If You Can live at Tokyo Dome, Ijime Dame Zettai live at Sonisphere 2014, Rondo Of Nightmare with Mischiefs of Gods intro (SuMetal solo), Onedari Daisakusen (Black Babymetal)_ and the whole album i guess :)
Yeah is too sad YuiMetal is not there anymore, you'll see another backup dancer in newer live concerts and festivals either way.
When i met BabyMetal in 2011 there were no other band or group like them, as far as i know all the bands coming after them were some kind inspired by BM who leads many other new japanese rock-metal bands have their own chance, there was a before and after with Babymetal on the worldwide metal scene.
Good job spotting the IEM metronome.
You will find plenty of fancams, probably not on this live performance thou, but not all of them concentrate on Kami Band but you'll see their exquisite job here and there even during proshot live versions, so don't worry about fancams.
Hope to see you soon with more BabyMetal songs 🦊🤘

BABYMETAL is one of the reasons I landed in JRock. Now, actually I´m into many other bands but in early 2017 probably they were my favourites. The withdrowal of Yui and the death of Mikio Fujioka (guitar) were a terrible impact to thee chemistry of this project. BTW, the original Kami Band (the musicians that provide the music) have a very interesting side project of jazz fusion that is named Kari Band. In the origin Fujioka, Yuya Maeta (drums) and BOH (bass). After the death of Fujioka they incorpored Satoshi Oka, former disciple of Fujioka. Their last EP, Nimaime, is an homage to their past friend and a masterpiece.

That was the best period in Babymetal history. Su-metal was quoted saying “we are seven, 3 singers and 4 musicians.” Sadly, the band has been down played and the third singer has become a revolving door. The Black BabyMetal songs with Mia and Yui were an awesome addition to their shows. The band of Takayoshi, Mikio, BOH and Hideki was incredible.

LOL there's always that one guy in the crowd! 😂 ... If there's one thing Babymetal can deliver, it's performances you definitely won't forget in a hurry. The girls, the band and also the producers in the background create experiences with these shows. And I say that purely from the videos and concert discs I have seen of them. Unfortunately, I have not yet been able to experience a concert of these girls live myself... Road Of Resistance is certainly one of their most popular performances, but believe me, there are MANY of this calibre. I think for you with a focus on the instruments, "Rondo of Nightmare Live @ Budokan Black Night" (7 minute version) would be the best choice next. I also recommend the song 'No Rain, No Rainbow' from their 'Legend - S - Baptism XX' show. This song shows the versatility of both the band and the good Suzuka as a vocalist.

More specifically, the BABYMETAL concept is Death Metal + Idol Pop. (Look for Morning Musume to understand what is Idol Pop.)
Road of Resistance, an anime battle song / power metal song, is unique among BABYMETAL songs. (The album version features the guitarists from Dragonforce.) You should watch Megitsune (MV) next, as it explicitly conveys Japanese cultural and musical themes.

There is a high comment by SadRock, 4th from top as I am posting, that explains a little bit about what went down that day. Short version is Babymetal was really not known much yet, and they were meant to be on a side stage(5k of their fans) that day but were somehow pushed onto the main stage(50k+ thirsty metalheads that dont know them) at the last minute. They killed it, and crowd loved it, Babymetal got huge push from that day I beleive.

She is always looking for a new challenge. Since Moa had to teach the Avengers the dances, she has worked harder on her dancing. I flew from the UK to Japan for this concert, and yes it was totally worth it, it's was a fantastic gig, and I have done it again after that. Babymetal maybe one of the best bands to see live. By the way the band is called the Kami band, Kami meaning god, and yes they are well worth that title.

I didn't see anyone mention that both lead guitars are 8 string as well as the bass is 6 string. The BxMxC video shows the lead guitar is a 9 string. I would think that would require extreme talent and practice to sound as good as they do. Cheers.

BabyMetal is always a pleasant surprise. I stumbled in by accidentally opening the Megitsune MV about 5 years ago. I was at work and didn’t realize I had opened a video until the music started. Japanese instruments? Heavy percussion and deep fuzzy guitar… Ok…
I wasn’t able to look at the video until a third of it had played. It was indeed what it seemed. Three skinny kids singing and dancing. Su’s voice had drawn me in. Yui an Moa we’re adorable. Then came the breakdown. So very good.
    I’ve been a fan since.
    BabyMetal lead me to Band-Maid.

*Wave, I love your channel and have been waiting patiently for a long time for you to react to Baymetal* Glad u FINALLY did and chose a great song. I you are a drummer and expected to hear about the insane drumming on this song, but there was no mention of the incredible VOCALS of SU Metal or the audience participation The whole song shines in many areas, This is one of my favorite babymetal song, but my all time favorite is an anti- bullying song from LIve at Sonisphere, JUly 5, 2014, when they played one of the most amazing concerts in Rock history, this being the last song of their 5 song set: Ijime,Dame,Zettai ( NO more bullying, never again)
    ijime = bullyingdame =
    not allowed/no
    goodzettai = no matter what
This concert was over 7 years ago. Su was 16 and Yui & Moa had just turned 15. It was also their first ever booking outside Asia. These girls and the Kami Band had to face down 50,000+ British metalheads who didn't know a thing about them and could have easily turned on them. Babymetal won over that crowd.
They ( Babymetal were warned them if the crowd does not like your music, you could be booed or worse BOTTLED off the stage Eeeks !
They ending up winning those hard core, brash, salty metal head over to the point, that at the end, there were chanting " We want more" Hence, a new genre of metal rock was born. it took a lot of GUTS at such a young age to know what they could be walking into could be a recipe of disaster.
I'm very surprised that you had NO Babymetal reactions before this, as they kind of set the table for future acts, like LOVEBITES, BAND-MAID, Aldious and more.

    Road of Resistance
"Road of Resistance" is a song by the Japanese Kawaii metal band Babymetal. The song was released worldwide as a digital single on February 1, 2015 by Toy's Factory, serving as the lead single off the international re-release of the album Babymetal, as well the opening track from Metal Resistance.
    "Road of Resistance":-
    Single by Babymetal
    Album: Metal Resistance
    Language: Japanese, English
    Released: February 1, 2015
    Genre: Kawaii metal, power metal
    Length: 5:19
Label: BMD Fox, Toy's Factory, Sony Music Entertainment
    Composer: Mish-Mosh, Norimetal, Kyt-metal
Lyricist: Kitsune of Metal God, Mk-metal, Kxbxmetal
    Producer: Kobametal
    Kyoto: (arrangement)
    Babymetal singles chronology:-
    "Megitsune" (2013)
    "Road of Resistance" (2015)
    "Gimme Chocolate!!" (2015)
    Background and release:-
"Road of Resistance" includes guest appearances by DragonForce guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman.
The song would be used to mark the beginning of the band's lore, Metal Resistance Episode III, at the concert held on November 8, 2014 at O2 Brixton Academy in London, which was also the final tour date for the band's Babymetal World Tour 2014.
A trailer for the song was released on January 5, 2015, integrating footage from the debut performance of the song in London. The song was first released as a digital bonus track off the live album Live at Budokan: Red Night, with limited editions of the album containing a download card with a code to download the song at no additional charge. The song was later released as a dedicated digital single on the iTunes Store on February 1, 2015.
Li and Totman are featured on guitars, although they are listed as featured artists in various regions of the re-release of the album Babymetal, on which the song appears as a bonus track, mainly in the United Kingdom.
    Composition:-
Rolling Stone described the song as "power metal" with "shiny pop harmonies". Rock Sound called the song "everything we’d expect from [Babymetal] with a bit of Dragonforce’s exhilarating, flame-fingered guitar added in for good measure." Matt Evans of The List called the song an "empowering hyperspeed anthem". According to Kadokawa, the song consists of twin shred guitars courtesy of Li and Totman, with a dynamic sound derived of melodic speed metal. The lyrics are described as a narrative on the Metal Resistance, which the band adopted on their world tour. It has also been considered the "final stage" of Babymetal and the prologue to Metal Resistance, and a transition performance that demonstrates the band's growth from the previous album.
According to Su-metal, the song refers to the Metal Resistance lore, described as "the story of Babymetal traveling across the world in the hopes of creating a new metal to unify the world as we break through the barriers of language and borders. In the middle of the song there is a part where we go, ‘Wow, Wow’ and this is where our fans from around the world can sing with us at our concerts. I hope people will listen to our album and support us at our shows." Yuimetal stated in an interview with Metal Hammer that "Road of Resistance" is her favorite song from Metal Resistance, explaining that it "has been performed at so many concerts, so a lot of memories are jam-packed. The lyrics are positive, the sound is so cool, and [the] dance is so powerful."

It’s all pretty much been said below, but great reaction. I’m a hard core BABYMETAL fan from the beginning. Flew from Australia to Japan in 2016 to go to both black and red nights at the Tokyo Dome. Totally epic on so many levels.
At the time of this clip, Sumetal (lead) was 16 with YuiMetal (stage right) and MoaMetal 15. Totally bloody amazing performance for actual babies!
Their music is very varied with many interesting things going on. They tragically lost a key lead guitarist Mikio in 2017. He fell from a platform whilst star gazing!! 😭 They lost Yui around the same time due to unknown reasons though the public story was “health reasons”. True believers consider the original remaining 2 - Su and Moa the “real” BABYMETAL. Moa can sing very well in her own right, however rarely gets a chance. See MoaBanger as a great example.
I’d try these as a cross section of time and styles.
    Yava
    Headbanger live
Rondo of Nightmare (with mischiefs of Gods intro)
Tails of the Destinies (only 1 live performance ever at Tokyo Dome, and I was there!!) An epic and brilliant Prog Metal masterpiece.
    BxMxCx
The Starlight Trilogy. This is an epic 3 track tribute to their fallen guitarist. Very moving.
No Rain no Rainbow (legend X concert) A truly beautiful and moving Ballard.
Finally; BABYMETAL Death live. This was/is a show opener of epic proportions. The trick is that in Japanese, Desu is pronounced Dess. It means I am or we are. So BABYMETAL DESU! sounds like BABYMETAL DEATH! It is a wild ride and not for the weak at heart.
    Enjoy the ride!! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
P.S. Normally here for BANDMAID, but very pleased you are starting on BABYMETAL. The fans are super supportive, and in my experience treat the girls as goddesses rather than some creepy old guy watching young girls vibe. It’s more like a bunch of violently protective older brothers! lol

If you want to here the Kami Band alone, I suggest the Hills of Wisteria. It was a tribute that Takayoshi Ohmura wrote for Mikio Fujioka his teacher and mentor as well as his band mate. There is also a something called The Gathering of Metal Warriors that the Kami band is involved in, but I have never seen videos of that though they exist. And , of course as others have mentioned Rondo of Nightmare with the Mischiefs of God introduction.

From the Babymetal Reactor Resource czcams.com/video/q40VmTHSh4c/video.html
Going forward, if reactors want to keep reacting to the videos, I've come up with a solution that will make it possible to continue using the videos with logos that have already been tested against blocks.
    I've made a spreadsheet - docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZYdthVAHYaOAYL6AuhVOHotQinMoPPFEuspqDMIIGD4/edit#gid=0
with links to both the logo videos and the non logo videos and are hosing them on a Russian social media site that won't remove them, and is out of the reach of the copyright trolls. There are a bit over 30 videos on there now, but I'll keep uploading more every day until they're all back up. I'll also be adding new videos that I'll test on an alt CZcams account before adding to the spreadsheet.
If you can't access the spreadsheet for whatever reason, here are direct links to both the non logo videos and the videos with logos:
    No logos - ok.ru/video/c6630874
    With logos - ok.ru/video/c7184602
For reactors that want to put your own logo over the videos, here is a link to the logos I use that are already made transparent - drive.google.com/file/d/1JUVfJGp36xR2n1FHl7PzRIxXhA5P4VyW/viewor you can use whatever logo you'd like.
You can download the videos, which I recommend since the site can be a bit laggy sometimes, from this free website - sovid.net/ I recommend using the "HD" option when downloading to keep the file size reasonably small.
Although there are other videos on my channel there, only use the ones on the spreadsheet because some of the other non logo videos aren't CZcams safe.
    Kitsunes UP!

Better late than never, bro, great reaction vid :) Glad you enjoy the performance, they're something else.
To try and distinguish the three girls, well ... we can start with Su, lead vocalist, being the taller of the three (and the one who mainly sings), Moa/Moametal - look for the dimples, Yui/Yuimetal - look for the cute chubby cheek :p
There were some performances with an intro from the live band, just add "kami band intro" when searching for Babymetal.
I'll let others suggest which songs to react to next, it's pretty much up to you, all I know is you're going to have a great time reacting to it.

If you know the guitar playing in this song was composed by Herman Li and Sam Totman of the metal group Dragon Force.
That's why you can hear clearly this song is very power metal style like Dragon Force songs.

Here's a 5 minute compilation of the drummer Hideki Aoyama (in Japan he's know as the god of the double bass) - there are periods when the band (Kami) gets to perform before songs - this is just the drum parts- czcams.com/video/7mluncf_4WI/video.html

You're not going to find much info on the musicians. The focus is on the girls and the band backing them comes and goes (typical idol pop template).
The management is really tight with fan engagement outside of shows (no social media presence except an official channel telling us to buy the new album or show tickets). Very little is shared about their personal lives and even less about the musicians.

Musicians are on Instagram and twitter + CZcams and will replie to fans . The girls have a private life they started very young and where protected from the trolls on the Internet. Look at the problems Billy Eilish had recently with old footage of her making daft noises which her own fans called her racist said she was impersonating Chinese people.
and the backlash from saying when she was stood with the dancers from her video and said" i love girls " she was accused of gaybaiting because she has a boyfriend think BabyMetal are best off out of twitter and Instagram

OK, somebody has to say it, so it might as well be me: Will Yui do a cameo (likely a video) for the Anniversary Show, where she tells the fans she is doing fine and she is passing the role of permanent 3rd Member to Momoko? Yui has now been out of Babymetal for three years, but her role in Babymetal was pivotal. Koba needs to finally shut the door on the whole episode and bring full closure to the lore...and this would be a perfect opportunity. It is likely that Yui will not return to dancing, due to injuries...but it would be nice to see her make one final bow. Plus, it would be incredible theater.

Don't know if anyone talked about it before, the juxtaposition you're talking about is, let's say... normal, for a Japanese group/band. BABYMETAL was/is always criticized for having a "gimmick" by western metal fans (three young girls in tutus dancing to heavy metal), but if you'd ask the Japanese fans, the only thing they would maybe categorize as gimmick would be that they're playing with a live band. These days there are quite a few idol formations with pop vocals and heavy metal/hard rock background music (also called "alt-idols"), but almost all of them play with backing track in their live shows. Best/most famous example would be BiSH (check out GiANT KiLLERS live if you're interested, but it'll get blocked if you react to it). They're probably the biggest thing in Japan when it comes to rock/punkrock for a few years now. Most of their shows are just them singing, dancing and having fun, without a band. The only times they have a live band is at tour finals in big venues and then you won't see much of them on the official video because the show is just not about them. The most important thing when it comes to live music performances in Japan is to put on the best show possible, even if the music or the singing itself has to suffer a bit. That's also one of the reasons why bands like Lovebites will never be a big thing domestically and probably hit their peak when it comes to audience numbers with venues like Zepp Tokyo (4.5 - 5k capacity). They could be the best musicians in the world right now, if they don't put on a show they'll never get real success in Japan, especially when it comes to rock and heavy metal, which is just a very small blob in their music business.
You won't find any "band cams" of them (at least from BABYMETAL concerts), because the singers, Su and Moa (and Yui in this video), aren't the "face of the band", they are BABYMETAL. The Kami Band is officially not a part of them, they only play live shows, are not "allowed" to talk about BABYMETAL anymore and none of them is even officially recognized by name. In this video you see a lot more of the band than you'd see these days (2018 - 2020). You can probably count the camera shots that are focussed on the band with your two hands in every pro-shot show from 2018 to 2020. They even wear masks since 2019, so the only way to identify them is by picking out their instruments. Takayoshi Ohmura is, at least according to DragonForce's Herman Li, one of the best/fastest guitarist in the world right now, he's the one with the pink ESP guitar. And Hideki Aoyama was just dubbed "the Japanese god of double bass" by the biggest drummer magazine in Japan a few months ago.
Their biggest influence of BM would by the way be X Japan, especially in the beginning. The "We Are BABYMETAL" at the end is the same as X Japan always (We Are X) finish their shows. A few of their songs could be considered "sister songs" of X Japan tracks (BM's Akatsuki and X's Kurenai for example). A lot of on stage stuff is modeled after or a hommage to X Japan, like the neck brace in some performances/videos, which is a nod to Yoshiki, X's drummer, pianist and songwriter. There's more, but my post is too long as it is, sorry for that ;).
