@@Dicodec Welcome to the absolute insanity that is the Japanese Idol scene. Heavy emphasis on either individuals or groups who do choreographed song/dance and are a 'character' for people to adore/follow. The industry leans heavily into pop style music though, Babymetal is one of the few globally big ones that ignore that trend from what I've seen.

You don't have to go to Japan, luckily for you they tour a LOT every year. They were on 20 dates last October in the US so they probably were near you at some point, including a big show at the LA Forum which was pro-shot. They were then on an European & UK tour in February. They were supposed to do an Asian tour and also a second leg of EU tour with a series of shows aswell as big metal festivals but obviously it all got cancelled. You can expect them to return soon to the US and I would definetly recommend you guys to go. That IS an experience.
To answer a few of your questions :
    1) The name BABYMETAL contrary to most first-timers belief does not originate from the fact that they were young (around 12 years old) when BABYMETAL started. Rather, it is actually a play-on-words with the Japanese language. "Heavy Metal" & "Baby Metal" sound and write almost exactly the same in Japanese (Hebi Metaru vs Bebi Metaru). In Japanese writing, the writing is so close to be the same that you would almost not tell the difference (it's just a small apostrophe sign that differentiates both terms). The second reason for using the name BABYMETAL is that they wanted to create a new way to enjoy metal, a new metal genre of positivity, inclusiveness and, ofcourse, cuteness (to go with the typically Japanese Kawaii culture). And invent a new genre they did, as they are regarded as the ones to have invented the metal sub-genre now referred to as "Kawaii Metal".
    2) Guy on the left is right, BABYMETAL does have a very very big variety of sounds and genre mixing in their repertoire. You'll be hard pressed to find two songs that sound alike. The red thread is that it's always with a BABYMETAL twist which you'll soon get to get accustomed to I hope as you go along your discovery journey. This is indeed a power-metal song with the obvious elements of "Kawaii" that make it so unique and different. Herman Li and Sam Totman from Dragon Force have helped write the guitar arrangements for this song. They're some of the earliest supporters of BABYMETAL.
    3) Guy on the left is right again, the main focus and the only "real" members of BABYMETAL are the three girls (more complicated than that now but more on that later). Though that doesn't mean the session musicians aren't loved and recognized by both the fans and the band itself. Most of the fans know and love most of the "regulars" who have done most of the shows with the girls over the years. The most represented and well-known musicians that back them up on tours are : Mikio Fujioka, Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cygnus & ISAO on the guitars - Aoyama Hideki & Yuya Maeta on the drums - BOH on his amazing 6-string Bass. They are all guys.
A few additional informations you might be interested in : BABYMETAL didn't use to always have a backing band of live musicians. BABYMETAL was started in 2010 and they did not have much budget to work with. Up until the end of 2013 - apart from a few exceptions - the music was a backing track with paid actors miming instruments wearing skeleton costumes. Whenever you see those skeleton costumes, that probably means the video is from before 2014 and the musicians aren't live. Their immense talent & hardwork earned them enough success to be able to afford full-time session musicians every time they play live nowadays. It's not always the same musicians but there are regulars, as I said, whom the fanbase loves.
And for future reference, they're lovingly called the "Kami Band" or simply the "Kamis". Kami roughly means "God" in Japanese. They're considered in the lore of BABYMETAL (of which there is a LOT) to be the Gods of their instruments, summoned by the Fox God to help BABYMETAL reunite the divided world through Metal music.
The three girls are known as follow :
    - Suzuka "Su-Metal" Nakamoto : born on 20th of December 1997
    - Yui "Yuimetal" Mizuno : born on 20th of June 1999
    - Moa "Moametal" Kikuchi : born on 4th of July 1999
They are not related but the story of how they came together is quite touching nonetheless. That will be for another time as I'm obviously starting to make it a very long comment.
I enjoyed this reaction a lot, I had been waiting on you to do BABYMETAL since your first introduction to Japanese music. Hope you enjoy your journey down the Fox Hole ;).

actually the guitarists from Dragonforce collaborated in this song. tha backing band is called "kamiband" (kami means god, that why they wear white) and no , they're not women, all men. they're not triplets, they're just friends, sadly one of the small dancers, Yui, left the group in 2018 due to an unknown ill. now they have 3 dancers replacing her in a rotative formation (i mean, the 3 of them are in the concerts but not performing in the same songs). also, one of the guitarists (he's not in that video btw) died for falling of an observation platform while stargazing, BABYMETAL released a tribute song to him called "Starlight" and it came out the same day Yui left the group. they were formed in 2012 as a subunit from Sakura Gakuin, a jpop group with a school concept, they came up with the name BABYMETAL because they wanted to create a new genre which mixes cuteness and metal, they debuted being 12-13 y/o, in this video they were around 14-15 and now they're above their 20s.

Some answers for you. They're called BABYMETAL because it's a pun in Japanaese. If you want to write out "heavy metal" in Japanese it looks like ăƒ˜ăƒŒăƒ“ăƒŒăƒĄă‚żăƒ« and if you want to write out BABYMETAL it looks like ăƒ™ăƒŒăƒ“ăƒŒăƒĄă‚żăƒ«. The producer says that the additional meaning is that they were trying to give birth to a new metal genre (therefore it's a "baby").
BABYMETAL started off as a subunit of a idol incubator program called Sakura Gakuin in 2010. They were performing in small theaters to a hundred people like parents and whatnot. They came out with a few singles but didn't really get worldwide notice until GIMME CHOCOLATE blew up on CZcams. BABYMETAL was project that eventually became much much bigger than originally expected, and they eventually hired the best musicians Japan had to offer. These are the guys in white robes which became known as the Kami Band.
So the core of BABYMETAL has always been the girls, with the musicianship catcing up to the popularity of the girls and the concept. Expect to see a lot of fans chime in since BABYMETAL has a huge and dedicated fan base. There are a lot of reasons why aside from just being talented and making good music. Through CZcams videos, you can follow their humble poppy beginings to become a viral sensation and featured on Colbert, to then making their legit international live debut (kinda) on the main stage at Sonisphere 2014, gaining acceptance among the metal community, and to then selling out the largest venues in the world like Wembley and Tokyo Dome. It's all there for you to watch and you kinda feel like a proud parent or older sibling seeing them progress.
The songs that are most popular for reactions are Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!! (Legend of 1997 Makuhari Messe), Ijimi, Dame Zettai (Sonisphere 2014), Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan with Mischiefs of God intro), and Megitsune (you can watch the official MV there for a nice change).
    Cheers!

@@Dicodec The only thing I would add to what they said is that the group's producer, who everyone calls Koba (shortened from his full first name), saw Su, the lead singer, when she was young and thought she had the stage presence and powerful voice to cut through the hard sounds of a metal band. He was a metal fan and wanted to bring metal back, but in a different form that would get it noticed since traditional metal in Japan had kind of gone underground to super small venues...it was really almost a dead genre there.
So he merged metal music with J-pop/idol vocals and choreography to create a new genre called "Kawaii" metal, or cute metal. They did start as a sub-group of Sakura Gakuin, which had its own tv or internet show that was played off as a school, so they were considered the "metal club" of the "school". There's so much more to go into, but I don't want to give a whole wall of text at this point. Hope to see you react to a lot more from them, as they are incredible and just so, so talented and put on one hell of a show!

You guys seem to get it right away. There's nothing else quite like BABYMETAL.
A lot of times it takes three songs or so before people are converted. : )
BABYMETAL could have had an easier, if more limited success, if they had decided to try and cruise on the novelty aspect of the group.
Instead, they recruited some of the best musicians in Japan to back the girls up, as well as great songwriting and choreography.
Of course their producer, Koba, was lucky to spot Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal) early in her career, and built the BABYMETAL project around her.
She actually played this same venue, Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in 2008, when she was a member of the JPop trio Karen Girl's, back when she was 10 years old.

REMEMBER: We're watching old performances from Japan, of 3 teen ladies + 1 band + Thousands of mortals gathered in a mass of humanity Headbanging, Circle Pitting, fist pumping, and shouting. (It still amazes me to witness that man) .BEFORE this dammed virus shut down the planet, BABYMETAL did a battery of shows across the US.2019 (in like under 3months), went back home to Japan to perform at sold out venues, then did a European/UK tour in 2020 (last show March.1 & first time in Russia). Your channel is about to be flooded lol. I will try to answer your questions as briefly as possible.
Yes, Dragon Force's Herman Li was involved in writing (and I think also played one of the guitars on the studio track) this song.
BABYMETAL originally consisted of three singers (Suzuka Nakamoto (aka Su-metal), Moa Kikuchi (aka Moametal), and Yui Mizuno (aka Yuimetal). All three were originally members of a school-based idol group called Sakura Gakuin. In 2010, a Sakura Gakuin producer named Key Kobayashi (who is a huge metal head) heard Suzuka singing and thought her voice would cut through metal music well. He added Moa and Yui (who are a year and half younger) as dancers and chant (known as kakegoe and ainote; you can hear this in their song Megistune for example) leaders to tie in the girl's idol J-pop background. Suzuka was 12, and Moa and Yui were 11 when they held their first performance as BABYMETAL that year. This new genre he created is referred to as Kawaii Metal; kawaii means cute in Japanese. The session musicians (known as the Kami Band; Kami means God in Japanese) were added several years later and have been performing with the group ever since. Another five members (known as the Kamis of the West) were added last year to help support BABYMETAL's much longer US and European tour.
This performance was from their New Year Fox Festival concert at the Saitama Super Area in 2015; there were 20000 people there. The video of this song was actually cut short by about a minute and half, as the group yelled "We are BABYMETAL" longer than shown.
All their songs sound different. I recommend Karate from 2016 Download Festival, Headbanger from the Legend 1997 concert, and BABYMETAL Death (from the same concert). I can't wait to see more!

      Haha,
      This group is really something,
As someone who went on and off on following them,
I can say that you can see every single thing that happened back in their music,
With both the overarching story and musical twists and turns they make.
Also some clarification about the video,
Yes they have a set group making the background music,
But they never play all at once,
A lot of them have 'earned their name' as fans call it,
Meaning they did more than just making music to get the stage to come alive.
They also cover a wide array of genres,
Because their music is supposed to be part of 3 different continents (Asia, Europe and North America)
So every song pulls (randomly) from at least 2 of these continents.
One of the vocalists had to resign,
But performances now feature other artists who are willing to fill in for her.

IMHO, THIS concert (Saitama Super Arena 2015) is Babymetal at their BEST. Sumetal (17), Moametal (15) and Yuimetal (15). Moa and Yui are still in Sakura Gakuin and about to graduate a couple of months later (and doing the best Road To Graduation event ever from Sakura Gakuin). This is for me the crowning of a awesome idea that started in 2010. Yes they did a lot more since then but they haven't topped this concert yet, not for me.
I fell in love with Babymetal with "Catch Me If You Can". The first album is a completely chaotic mesh of Metal and it's brilliant... What they did/achieved in only 5 years (up to this concert) is enough for me to think they deserve it all.

As you have already been told, every song is different (there are a couple here and there that are similar to one another but you will have to look hard to find them). They play virtually every metal genre but blend in countless other musical styles and genres, often when you least expect it. Some songs are hard and heavy, others lean more towards their pop roots and they have everything in between.
They have over 40 songs plus a few early covers and I could recommend my favourites or popular songs etc, but I'd say go with anything and everything and more recommendations will follow ... the official videos are good but BABYMETAL are always at their best in live performances. @@kekelaward I can think of bands that I would put above GINGER some based on my own personal taste and others that have been around longer and done more. It also depends what mood I'm in. There's a gothic metal band called TRISTANIA and they may not be as polished as GINGER but I enjoy listening to them a lot more. A band that I think is now defunct THEATRE OF TRAGEDY is another favorite of mine. NOX ARCANA make gothic music that's not heavy its more spooky and when I'm in the mood its great. I also enjoy a certain amount of K - POP . Momoland BLACK PINK and TWICE cheer me up and in the past I was a fan of the older groups like GIRLS GENERATION, KARA and T-ARA. I still love the stuff i grew up with like BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST. GINGER are certainly good but I've really only heard one song and based on that I would probably put EPICA above them but look the main thing is to have precious memories of the music that accompanied your milestones growing up as well as music that you love now.

This is a good reaction, you touched on many good things.
Babymetal live is best Babymetal ! :-)
Seriously, they have magic live performing abilities or something. If you take any album song, listen to it, you might: that's pretty good or maybe even: "WTF is this ?"
But when you've seen it live, you will understand the song. The album songs are like movie soundtracks without the movie, a huge part is missing. Getting the audience involved is an import part too.
Babymetal's name means: newborn genre of metal. And the name is actually like a pun, in Japanese when they pronounce heavy metal it's 'hebimetal' and 'bebimetal' sounds very much alike and the way it's written is also almost exactly the same.
Objectively speaking: 'the little ones' Moametal and Yuimetal look the most alike, especially because of their hairstyle and length and how many of their moves and singing are in sync.
The dancing and singing takes at least as much practice as playing a guitar, they most be so incredibly fit. And their long capacity most be huge.
Su-metal is the center of Babymetal, but Moametal and Yuimetal have their own songs too as a duo. The girls don't usually write any songs, but Yuimetal and Moametal have a duo song they wrote on their tourbus when they were touring in Singapore.
Babymetal started at age 11 and 12. This year is their 10th year of existance, so they've really been doing this all their teen lives and are now in their early twenties.
Even at age 12, Suzuka already had almost 10 years of experience in the entertainment industry.

The so-called death stare that BabyMetal's lead singer, Su-Metal, gets on her face as she parts the crowd is actually the burning gaze of Alexander the Great, which seems to peer into your very soul. Queen Su has a couple other things in common with the mighty Macedonian conqueror. First, there is her self-avowed desire to conquer the world, albeit in her case through music. Then there is the story about a much earlier performance at Saitama Super Arena in 2008. Back then Su was the youngest member of a pop/idol trio called Keren Girl's. Having never played such a large venue before, the two older girls were naturally a bit nervous about it. Su on the other hand was so confident that she decided to take a nap before the show, and slept so soundly that someone had to go wake her. The first time I read this story it actually gave me a chill because there is an eerily similar story told about Alexander before the Battle of Gaugamela. It was then that I realized what is so special about Su-Metal. She possesses that intangible something that is the spark of greatness. Also, whenever people react to both BabyMetal and Band Maid, the conversation will eventually get around to comparing the two. I love them both, but cannot compare them musically because they are two completely different entities. I can explain the difference between them though. Band Maid is simply the best rock band on the planet today. BavyMetal is something more, a state of mind, an unstoppable movement, and a force for good. It was BabyMetal that led me to Band Maid, and to Wagakki Band, and to Doll$Boxx, Sakura Gakuin, Sabaton, and the Hu Band.

Lovingly precision engineered by a metalhead in the Jpop industry. Think Broadway show more than garage band.
