    I live permanently in a caravan ant totally love it :D
    However, I'm shocked to see a "tent" attached on roof of the car costing over 3600 dollars while I bought my five and a half meter long caravan for less than 1500 dollars...

      I think these types of trailers are for people with so much money, the cost doesn't matter. My brother-in-law just bought a new 30' fifth wheel with pull outs for $22,000. Bathroom, kitchen, recliners, the works for less money than many of these tiny trailers. The 12' trailers go for about $8000 new here. It is sort of the way 'tiny houses' cost more than my 1300 sq ft two bedroom house on a corner lot.

    This is good inspiration for van builds. Like the kitchen in the back idea, or even taking up one of the side-rear door areas if you mod an awning on the side of your van. Slide open the rear door and boom fridge, microwave, you name it. Could even put a mini BBQ grill on a table using a hinge mechanism with a locking pin so you can grill right outside.

      It's a regular one, mainly because I motorcycle everywhere. It's a Eureka Timberline 2 person with the optional vestibule. The Happier Trailer reminds me of a 1957 Mercury trailer I rented in New Mexico last November. They left the outside of the trailer as is, which looks like it had been in the desert for 50 years, but the inside was refurbished.@@MustSeeTech

    I can see if you want the tent on top type. Australians have been using a version of that. Or get a truck with the tent on back thing, thats cheaper. Sister and I had the small truck with the foam sleeper bed and shell that went up in back. That was so great! Even with bed part up we could kneel and change and foam. They need to bring those back! 70s! Also see my comments to Michael smiley below. Some is buying at right time. My parents had a station wagon when I was a kid. Bench seats in front and back seat back in those days, parents slept there. Us 3 kids sideways on a twin mattress! We went all up and down the west coast to Canada and back!

      Yeah. We saw an “extra” solar panel on sale online when looking to order the recommended kit We needed up with a Cherokee wolf pup. Down grading from a fifth wheel. Nothing worked in it. Two batteries in a row and they somehow kept draining each other. The newer trailers are solar ready now and built with all LED and outlets for phone cords. USB. The one solar panel not only kept the one battery trickle charged but charged it up when low to full if we were not using anything. We do have a bigger truck so this trailer half the weight. It’s all research thought to what you want. Some people don’t want a big truck and tow a big thing but want to see nature too. I just don’t like tent camping as really allergic to ant bites etc. Spent some miserable vacations. Our was new but the last year model so we got if for $13K instead of $22K. But the cabinets are crap, photo paper. Structure and floor is good because floor is edge to edge so basically we can remodel inside if we want. Our model has one stationary queen bed which the discount mattered place sent to a mattress factory to cut down to queen RV size (5” smaller) for only $80. I’m a good researcher! It also has a 2 seat dinette and 2 bunks which elated the sink in bathroom but I wash hands in basthtub shower. I wanted the storage above. We put a box of towels. Sleeping bags and and our bags with clothing and shoes. Bottom has complete under bed storage 7 feet. The one with bathroom has a turned queen and 2 small wardrobe closets. I just wished they used a lighter real wood than that for cabinets.

      True, but $450 for a weekend is a good way to find out if it's worth committing to the full price of one.
      Also a look on the website shows that the company is geared to Icelandic tourism specifically. I.e. get in a truck, and pull a camper to a moor overlooking the ocean. Can't get that in a hotel room.

    The people dissing the Mink rental forget you can drive your modest car around Norway or Scotland, park remote (NOT on a site) and have some glorious, alone moments in the most spectacular environments in the world. Yes, luxury hotels are nice too. And so are okay hotels but in lovely countries. But you find the right place to park the Mink and you have a $10,000 view.

    the mini campers have all the tech in the world . however , they are missing the most important basic item . A mini toilet . for me a toilet is a must have . on road trips I would feel empowered knowing my own personal toilet is less than 20 feet away . A personal toilet would definitely sell , not all of the happy musica .

    • @MustSeeTech
      @MustSeeTech  Před 6 lety +4

      Thanks for your comment. It is indeed something of great importance. One of the options is to have a composting mobile toilet with a canvas around it, the setup should be rather affordable, not too much "sound privacy", but still a viable solution, won't you agree?

      Ok, just noticed this is three years old, but anyway, the benefit of these trailers is that unlike tents they are 'fully furnished' so you don't need to put up the tent, then bring all your stuff in. I can remember camping and a good hour would be in moving everything from the car to the tent and vice versa. But for this price, yeah, I'd go with the time because you can get a pretty BIG tent, much bigger than these. Then just get a regular tiny trailer if you want and have all the kitchen stuff ready to go. A lot of the rooftop ones have tents anyway, but not so good once it gets cooler or windier.

  • @joewoodchuck3824

    • @MustSeeTech
      @MustSeeTech  Před 6 lety +7

      Greetings. I would assume that companies feel entitled to charge you more, because they understand that for many people to buy a bigger camper, they would need a bigger car, which in the end costs more than just getting a smaller trailer. Just my thoughts, could that be the case in your opinion?

    • @joewoodchuck3824
      @joewoodchuck3824 Před 6 lety +6

      Must See Tech. I was afraid to think that but you're probably right. We're wrestling with this now. Some people have been converting bare cargo trailers for far less money and the basic construction is far better than the typical travel trailer. Lighter too. Make it luxurious or spartan, or anything in between. We're thinking that plastic bins and drawers, plus shelves will be the bulk of the storage and can all be moved around as needed for flexibility.

    • @MustSeeTech
      @MustSeeTech  Před 6 lety +6

      I know that lots of successful camper manufacturing businesses have started that way. Maybe if you find better and more affordable solutions for yourself, you could transfer the knowledge to build camping trailers for others? If you ever decide to, don't forget to send us some promotional materials, we will feature your trailer here;)

    • @joewoodchuck3824
      @joewoodchuck3824 Před 6 lety +2

      Must See Tech. I don't really see what's so innovative about filling a standard cargo trailer with plastic drawers, shelves, and bins to one's desires.
      The trailers start around $3 - $4k depending on size and quality. Mine will likely cost around $5k. A couple hundred more on plastic storage, plus any other camping gear if starting from scratch. Easily < $1k depending on how much independence from restaurants, etc. one wants.
      This isn't rocket science.

    • @MustSeeTech
      @MustSeeTech  Před 6 lety +5

      Well, it's just a suggestion. A product doesn't have to be based on rocket science, it just has to solve someone else's problems. If you choose to custom build, that means you can't find the appropriate product on the market, and chances are there are thousands of people like yourself, who could become interested in your solutions.

    We rented the droplets camper in 2018 summer for a trip from Vancouver to Banff. We were considering to buy a small tailer since our suv only allow 1200lb of dry weight capacity. Thought to give this a test drive. However the experience was horrible. One of the windows of the trailer opened during the road trip and failout by itself due to poor design of the lock. And the 2 of its fenders on the wheels almost fall out as well due to the loose screws. We have to stop multiple times during the highway to fix those issues. And since we didn't know when the window fall out, the company asking us to pay few hundreds dollars for fixing the missing windows on top of our rental fee. Not only the poor quality of the trailer cost us a very unpleasant trip. It is very dangerous to drive a trailer like that on the road. Everything looks perfect till test trip, things just keep falling apart on the road trip...not worth the money for sure.

      the cheapest one? make one yourself. im working on mine, waiting some specialized parts to be delivered. Since im doing all labor by myself (carpentry, welding, mechanics) it should lower the price quite a lot. with trailer frame all done, it costed aprox. 1200€ to this stage, will rake another 2-3K for walls, insulation, interior and cooking utensils. still, far far under 25K :p.
