How to Scan with Canon MG6150 printer With Ink Run Out-Fix Error Stopping Scanner use if no ink left

I came to use my Canon MG6150 multi-function device that scans and copies as well as printing and there was no ink left in one cartridge so an error was flashing up stopping the unit from being used. I only wanted to scan so didn't need to have any ink present. There was conflicting info online suggesting that it wasn't possible to use the device without ink but there was another guide that showed how you can hold down the STOP button for 10 seconds and it will reset the printer and allow it to be used
